Nokia Lumia 1020 – who’s the boss. 1020 vs bigger bulkier camera

This promo shows off what’s great about camera phones and the 1020 in particular. Whilst dedicated bigger cameras are awesome (I love my 60D) their heft, their bulk, the set up time means that I can’t really do an on the go spur of the moment quick snap.

In this situation the guy with the bigger camera has to set up whilst the one with the Nokia Lumia 1020 can just take a picture. But here the guy with the big camera already has his camera out. A more ideal scenario would be showing off the awesome big camera first but then realising that you can’t carry it everywhere like you can with the 1020. Just keep showing the bigger camera in the office, stuck in the office or in a drawer or whatever and the other guy thinking “this would have been a great shot if I had a camera with me” whilst the 1020 user gets these shots.

If only there was also a quicker start up time with ProCam eh?

What irks me though is the title of this video. Why on earth Nokia France is putting Windows Phone first in the title when the camera capabilities has NOTHING to do with Windows Phone. Guys, please wait until the MS deal is over before you start worshiping/surrendering to your new bosses.

First Screen Rotation Toggle Tile Now Available

Posted: 16 Oct 2013 10:43 AM PDT

DSC03987Part of the goodies included in Update 3 or GDR3 for WP8 was the inclusion of a screen rotation lock, that was honestly pretty useless without the ability to pin it to your start screen or better yet a quick access toolbar (bless your heart Microsoft). Thankfully though some developers have already tackled the issue, making a simple .XAP file that can be sideloaded on your phone (provided it’s developer unlocked) to enable a little start screen tile that does just that (comes in all three sizes).

Grab the .Xap file from the source link below, and enjoy:

Apple Also Holding an Event on October 22nd

Nokia-to-reveal-new-devices-at-its-Innovation-Reinvented-event-on-October-22nd-550x350

Abu Dhabi is set to be the seen of Nokia world 2013, quite possibly the last Nokia World we’ll ever see kicks off at 11Am on the 22nd of October. But it seems Apple want in on the fun too, as they have begun sending out invites for their own event, also taking play on the 22nd of October.Their event is rumored to show off a new iPad mini and a 5th gen iPad as well as some other goodies, Nokia World is supposed to show off Nokia’s first ever tablet (the Lumia 2520) amongst other things.

However Apple’s event is going down at 10Am Pacific time (-7 GMT), while Nokia World starts at 11 AM GMT +4 so there’s a good 10 hours or so between them (provided my math is right). But we all know what the highlight of the day is going to be ;)
