Spotted: Nokia Lumia 800 in Lindsay Lohan’s “The Canyons” :/

I was watching trailers for Jame’s Macavoy’s “Filth”, rated relatively high on IMDB, when one of the suggested videos was a Lindsay Lohan movie? Who? Though more famous for going off the rails, she did do some movies as a child and is probably better known for “Mean Girls”. I didn’t realise she was still working in movies. Anyway, the most interesting part of this clip is the presence of the Nokia Lumia, though the first gen model, the 800. The film was released in August 2013.

So from one Lumia, National Geographic and Grand Canyon shots to, well, this.

As to why I’m up at this time, I actually woke up at 2:50 am. Tuesday’s shifts in Paediatrics (whilst fun) is a exhausting. Well, instant cure for being unable to sleep in my box room, or potentially made it worse by now altering my sleeping patterns again.

Nokia World October 22nd to share with supposed Apple event

Posted: 08 Oct 2013 08:30 PM PDT

nokia versus apple

Nokia World 2013, possibly the last one ever, will take place in October 22nd to reveal at least one new Nokia phablet and possibly a tablet. It’s also the day MS is launching the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets (these haven’t excited me but they have their fans).

Nokia, all the way in Dubai, might have to share the limelight with Apple who AllThingsD say might have an event to show off possibly a new iPad and MBP.

It’s not the first time a competitor tries to get in on a Nokia event. HTC once tried to get attendees in London for Nokia World to go to their launch, and it was also rumoured the following year that Samsung would try the same (but I think that did not happen). Last year there was no Nokia World, though some Nokians internally referred to the 920 launch as just that. Over a year since September 5th, the last major shift in flagships for Nokia (the 1020 is the 920 with 41mp, no?).

The 1520 heralds a much bigger phone with a huge screen. Hopefully WP lends well to the phablet experience.

Nokia UAE is doing the best, no regional Nokia sales team comes close

Posted: 08 Oct 2013 05:38 PM PDT

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is a brilliant mixture of all that is Lumia, and with a great phone like this comes a great responsibility for Nokia regional sale teams all over the world.

The 41mp camera should make an easy sales pitch, but as history will tell all great Nokia phones were shot in the foot on many occasions due to the strange style of advertising Nokia follows.

Even today in the UK Nokia show tons of Lumia 925 advertisements that DOES NOT SHOW THE PHONE!

Granted some stores really went all out for the Lumia 1020, but when it comes to who’s doing the most I’d say visually Nokia UAE have been working its ass off to get the Lumia 1020 trending in UAE against all odds with the video we shared last week being the tip of the iceberg.

How will Nokia UAE push the Lumia 1020 further? Well, they’re planning to show the Lumia 1020 camera in a BIG way.

I just love how the room above looks like an over blown version of this one.

On a funny note many of you might have not noticed that at the end of last week’s video there was a jab at Samsung (&/or LG) if you missed it here’s some screen shots.

Nokia Calls Out Apple for Copying With a National Geographic iPhone 5S Photoshoot

Posted: 08 Oct 2013 11:39 AM PDT

DSC03855Previously Nokia teamed up with two National Geographic photographers to show off the camera prowess of the amazing Lumia 1020. Now Apple have blatantly copied that strategy by getting another Nat Geo photographer to take some photos with the iPhone 5S; pretty bold move after copying our colors too doncha think?

Of course Nokia UK weren’t going to sit back and watch so they called them out on twitter challenging them to beat the 1020′s abilities:

Twitter for WP Updated With Lockscreen Images and More

Posted: 08 Oct 2013 09:31 AM PDT

The Twitter for WP8 app just received a pretty cool update that allows you to set the lockscreen image as tweets from your timeline that carry images. The image seems to be the most recent tweet, and only utilizes the top half of the screen as seen above. It’s a nifty way to get your social fix if you’re an addict, but for me there’s no beating Photostream + Weather updates.

According to the Microsoft blog the rest of the changes are as follows:

Good news to all you tweet-happy folk: A new Twitter update on Tuesday adds more options for your backdrop, so you can choose between a dark or light theme. But the changes are more than just skin deep. You can now select your favorite Twitter accounts and receive notifications when they tweet. You can also pin keyword searches to your home screen for quick access to tweets on a topic.

Your Twitter account will always be up-to-date with direct message syncing – read a message on your Windows Phone and it's marked as already read on your Windows PC. Another bonus: Set your language preference and get tweets translated in your timeline – with support for 13 additional languages.

Lumia 1320, Nokia’s night creature?

Batman Begins 5800

Nokia 5800 in Batman Begins

Whenever someone mentions Batman and Nokia in the same sentence I always think about either the Nokia 5800 or that special Lumia 800 (and 900) with the etched Batman logo on the back.

But there seems to be a new addition to those thoughts with the Lumia 1320. 1320? Yes, the Lumia 1320 which we haven't heard anything about and neither did we hear anything about the codename: Batman.

Until today. Our friendly neighbourhood leaker Evleaks just tweeted this: Nokia Batman = Lumia 1320.

There is very little to nothing known about a Lumia 1320 so anyone want to take a guess as to what it is? Country variant of the 1520? Carrier variant perhaps? Or maybe an international version of a US carrier version like the Lumia 929? That last one seems logical but then again it doesn’t since the 928 isn’t available outside the US either. Anyone want to take a guess?

More live pics of the giant Nokia Phablet, Lumia 1520

imageHere are a couple of photos of the upcoming Nokia Lumia 1520.

It looks especially large next to iPhone but anything kinda does nowadays even compared to the latest let alone the 3.5 inch varieties.

I’m looking forward to that extra space, physically and tiles wise.

Lumiappdates: YouTube updated, becomes link to web browser version

Posted: 08 Oct 2013 01:04 AM PDT

I haven’t updated our Lumiappdate section in a while again. There’s been some useful updates too. I’ll try to get back to making it more routine.

Anyway, I was quite excited to find an update for the YouTube app. How log before Google blocks this one I thought. Upon opening it, it’s gone back to being a link to the browser version. :/
