Samsung Galaxy S III Unboxing – Samsung’s First Quad Core Attempt Taken Out of the Box (Video)

Posted: 10 Jun 2012 02:23 PM PDT

Samsung Galaxy S III has finally arrived at our HQ and we’re preparing to put it through numerous tests. Till then we give you its unboxing, shown in the video below. As you probably already know, the Galaxy S III is a quad core Exynos handset, with a 4.8 inch HD display.

The device is priced at $200 on contract in USA and about 500 quid off contract in the UK, if you want a general price range. Our test unit is available in marble white, but there’s also a pebble blue version out there. The device is available in 16GB/32GB/64GB versions and it was unveiled early last month, only to be launched internationally at the end of May. It’s Samsung’s first quad core phone, with a Exynos 1.4 GHz processor, 8 megapixel camera and 8.6mm thick case.

Inside the box of the Galaxy S III we found manuals, earbuds, earbud plugs, USB cable, charger and the battery of the phone inside a small plastic bag. Also, just so you know, the back cover of the handset and its case are not made of “mere plastic”, but rather polycarbonate, a plastic material that’s more resilient than usual plastic. It’s protected against scratches and rougher contact. The phone uses a microSIM card slot and a 2100 mAh battery, in case you’re wondering. More details in the following days and a full review next week!

Nenamark2 Benchmark Results Reveal Powerful Droid RAZR HD Phone

Posted: 10 Jun 2012 02:56 AM PDT

Motorola Droid RAZR HD leaked just a day ago in a bunch of pictures online and now there’s a fresh leak to complete its picture. The handset’s Nenamark 2 results are impressive, around 59 fps, a result that’s also scored by the Samsung Galaxy S III unit we’re testing right now.

The same benchmarks reveal that the phone has a display resolution of 1196 x 720 pixels and a 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 Krait CPU. Android 4.0.4 powers the gadget and the Droid RAZR HD sounds like a marvelous gadget, if you ask me. This handset is everything that the original Droid RAZR should have been, especially since that model was launched in China in an upgraded version with HD display and 13MP camera, much to the spite of the US and European public.

Now Motorola makes up for that, by offering a handset that’s rumored to have not only the 720p screen, but also the 13 megapixel camera. If you add in the mix the potent battery on the Droid RAZR MAXX and a slim waistline, then we finally have a great rival for the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III.

Samsung Discussing Nokia Purchase?! (Rumor)

Posted: 10 Jun 2012 01:48 AM PDT

Local Finland site kauppalehti.fi has some insider Stock Exchange info, saying that something big is happening at Nokia and Samsung is apparently preparing a buyout. Higher prices in the stocks background and the market rumor that Sammy wants to buy Nokia are the main pieces of their scoop.

Nokia’s share price has grown a quite a bit this week, maybe because of these background rumors, or maybe because of the news regarding their future WP8 phones. One thing’s for sure: if Sammy buys Nokia, they’ll force them to use Android at first and Tizen OS later. Also, patents will come in handy for Samsung, especially in the battle against Apple. It’s important to mention that ever since the Lumia series was launched, Nokia’s share took a dive in value, instead of growing.

Nokia and Microsoft may be working together, but to what purpose? Even the Microsoft hundreds of millions of dollars in promotion couldn’t help the Finns… If the info does prove to be real, this would become the second biggest takeover in recent years, after Google’s Motorola Mobility purchase. Well, at least the next Samsung Galaxy S will have a nice design if that happens… maybe it will look like the N9/Lumia 800! What do you think?

Google Wallet Gets Ready for an Update

Posted: 10 Jun 2012 01:36 AM PDT

Google Wallet may be a great concept, but an update is always welcome. It’s also widely known that the Wallet solution has some problems of its own. For example on a HTC EVO 4G LTE when you perform a factory reset or flash a new ROM all Google wallet functionality is gone. That’s caused by a “security feature” that’s triggered when the device is messed with.

And that’s only an example of what’s wrong with Google Wallet right now. No idea when Google will launch Wallet 2.0, but what’s sure is that they will. The update focuses more on offers and promotions than the previous software and also it brings improved cloud-based payments. Google I/O, the big search engine event for developers, taking place late this month will probably be the best time for an unveiling. Google also needs to partner with more banks and merchants for Wallet to really catch on.

If you live in a smaller town you probably have no store that allows Google Wallet payments. However in places like Starbucks and other famous franchises, Google Wallet is becoming sort of a tradition. Obviously, most transactions take place in the USA, while international use is very limited.

Apple Unveils New Campus, Includes Underground Auditorium

Posted: 10 Jun 2012 01:26 AM PDT

Apple always has to rent up a building or ballroom to unveil new products, but 3 years from now they’ll be using their very own auditorium to do that. As you probably know already, Apple is working on its very own campus in Cupertino, with a HQ that looks like a UFO, unveiled by Steve Jobs months before he passed away.

Now Apple’s plans were further unveiled and they include an underground auditorium in the basement of one of the huge buildings that are being planned right now. As you probably know already, Apple puts much emphasis on its product launches and wants to create a perfect atmosphere surrounding it. What better way to create a field of distorsion then having your very own building to unveil products in? The auditorium looks like a giant secret lair, if you ask me and also in the sketches there’s a new Apple employee parking lot, that can host no less than 4,300 vehicles underground.

Construction will be finished in 2015 and I bet that the whole thing will look stunning. If I remember well, the plans unveiled by Steve Jobs included buildings with huge amount of curved glass, making them look sci-fi and very modern.
