Posted: 04 Jun 2012 09:06 PM PDT I was looking at the E3 Nike/Xbox presentation and noticed towards the end they show a Lumia. It’s a Nokia Lumia 800 but it has AT&T branding on it. The Nokia Lumia 900 is the only AT&T branded Lumia at the moment right? by xbox |
Vidoes: Collection of Lumia videos posted by Nokia Australia Posted: 04 Jun 2012 08:29 PM PDT In a similar way to Nokia Australia showcasing the N9, with a few videos on getting started etc., they have now uploaded several videos with regards to the Lumia range. The videos are presented by Steven Baxter, the product manager of Lumia at NokAus. (He’s actually the one who got the ball rolling for me getting an N950 ) First up is a video showing off the current “Lumia Family” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFXD-3q8CqA Next, a video briefly showing off WP7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oo6ItzTODk Although I don’t know why, there is a “how-to” of Unboxing the device http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjJSwW9Fv1Y Quick video on the Nokia Exclusive apps on WP http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=E4yz8BRZfTE Here we have a getting started video, showing you how to set up the device. (I like that they use a C7 and that BT comes up with an N9. At least its not all WP) http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ziqqulkwwvA Finally, a “tips & tricks” video, which is more a showcasing of local content http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=IUz0ugjLoEI Two others have also been uploaded. The first is a re-upload of an ad for the Lumia 610 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9frve9hptiw&feature=relmfu An ad for the Lumia 900 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH7zfVwYX68&feature=relmfu Source: Youtube & WPDownunder

Lumiappaday #203: The Dark Knight Rises demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800 Posted: 04 Jun 2012 04:00 PM PDT Another official app from Nokia which can be found at Nokia Collections – The Dark Knight Rises app. There’s nothing too much into it really, just an app focused on TDKR. It shows you trailers as well as locations where you can watch the film. The main thing about it I guess is the social location factor. Signing in to Foursquare, you can join either the Batman team or Bane’s team. You’ll check in and win mayorships for your team or attack (either on your own or as a group) to claim another team’s mayorship. You’ll get rewards for doing this. The maps mode is pretty cool; you can see around you what areas belong to which teams. There’s even a #203) The Dark Knight Rises

Windows Phone 8 Apollo Preview June 20th Posted: 04 Jun 2012 02:29 PM PDT On June 20th, 3 Wednesdays time, Microsoft are apparently going to be showing the world a little sneak peek at the future of Windows Phone. As much as I would love to see a preview now, I’m inclined to want to keep this a secret until a WP8 handset is available – most preferably, some form of high end Nokia Lumia.
I am trying to keep any expectations I have as low as possible, despite the fact that, well – it has to be brilliant or else, what’s the point?! Cheers Kaizer Allen and Mitun for the tip |
Gallery: Helsinki, Finland – a very brief picture walk Posted: 04 Jun 2012 02:28 PM PDT After a quick refuelling and catching up on some stories, I went back out for a little walk around the hotel. As requested, here are some pics. Though I didn’t really know what I should be snapping. Given that I’ve enever been this far north before, I have never experienced such long daylight. It was as bright as a bright summer 5PM in the UK as it was 8PM in Finland. I kinda feel I’m still -2H (GMT). I wish I had the Nokia 808 PureView with me to have shot these instead. As I said, I wasn’t sure where to go, I didn’t use maps to check out anything, I just strolled along the a little bit of Helsinki. It’s such a beautiful city – at early evening it’s very chilled, very laid back. The streets feel like a labyrinth, with tallish buildings dividing different areas. But I didn’t feel lost because they were set out more like a grid, so you can free from quite far down another street/building I might have walked past so it’s very easy to get my bearings. It’s very orderly. Some of the roads have tram tracks. It’s not all buildings – there are some bits of park and greenery too (and probably more if I bothered to venture out further). I did notice some Angry Birds fighting. They were scaring the locals, fighting over food, skimming past people. I found them rather entertaining. I dunno – I found their park bench pretty too. It’s all very stylish here. Especially with those birds perched in the background. Random Gallery: Well that’s it for now. Tomorrow we get on to the Nokia stuffs |
Posted: 04 Jun 2012 11:38 AM PDT Microsoft unveilled something called Xbox Smartglass. This makes the content you watch and play even more immersive by having your phone and tablet deliver additional supplementary info. They showed in the demo that whilst watching a movie, your tablet/phone could show up cast details. Even better – on something like the Game of Thrones (a massive hit around the world) you can see precisely where a particular scene is happening on the map. This is just an example of how these screens can interrelate – not simply to be a mirror but to provide another facet of entertainment. It’s an intelligent companion that pulls you deeper into the experience. Think Wii U but it works with current generation of devices. Speaking of which, check out the part when it interacts with games. Sure, MS smartglass may make it easier for developers make games with additional supplementary screen action for competing Wii U platform. What’s cool about this is that you can use existing devices. What you have right now just gets even more useful. After you’re done, it can resume function as a phone or tablet. Wii U’s additional gamepad content is a requirement so games would be built with that in mind. Does everyone have tablets/smartphones to act as a companion? Consider the install base of tablets and precisely how many Xbox 360s there will be out there in comparison to perhaps, how many Wii U will be out in a year. I think both may have a fair amount to entice developers to me a little bit more creative and utilise an enhancement screen. As before with the Xbox Live companion app, you can use your phone (here lumia) to act as a remote control. Finally, With Kinect and Xbox smartglass there MS is letting you surf the web. But now it’s not a clunky malformed experience – it’s once that aims to use Kinect and Smartglass to make TV browsing easy and fun. Well, supposedly. BTW, is the Wii U’s Xbox 360 controller real or a joke? By WMPowerUser |
Posted: 04 Jun 2012 07:52 AM PDT What you’re looking at here is an attempt on a Belle theme to look more like a MeeGo one. MeeGo-Harmattan is a very clean, minimalist, consistent experience. Note, this isn’t a skin, this is still Belle UI pretty much but working within that frame to make it more MeeGo-Harmattan like. What do you reckon? Cheers Jill for the tip! |
Yappari – A WhatsApp client for the N900 Posted: 04 Jun 2012 07:46 AM PDT Have you heard of Yappari? It’s a WhatsApp client for the Maemo 5 powered Nokia N900. It’s very alpha stage at the moment though apparently stable enough. Full instructions on how to get this can be found here: Cheers Prashant for the tip! |
Nokia Philippines lists the Nokia 808 PureView! Posted: 04 Jun 2012 07:22 AM PDT Hurrah! When we saw a hands on demo in the Philippines of the Nokia 808 PureView, we were hopeful that it was a sign of future official availability.
Well now it seems the 808 has a product page over at Nokia Philippines. Cheers steelicon for the tip! |
Arrived in Finland – Nokia House tomorrow! Posted: 04 Jun 2012 06:32 AM PDT Hey folks, just a little update that I’m now actually in Finland I’ve updated some of the question requests in this post, but since there have been more I will update this again tonight. It’s 2:30PM or so GMT, but 4:30PM in Finland. I’m not sure what time shops close here but I’m going to quickly head out to get some food.
I’m going to organize the questions submitted into groups/categories and post them back up here. Hopefully I will still have internet. There is free WiFi in the hotel, but I swear it said 1mb/day limit. I had an interesting chat with the Taxi driver about Finland and Nokia in general. He has a N8 as one of his phones, and although he has been experiencing some problems with it, he says it’s the best when Finland gets super cold and other touch phones stop working. The Taxi firm I was with is a major one and is one that has picked up key folks at Nokia, though Beki( taxi driver) says he can’t disclose who. The weather here is quite lovely. It’s sunny and rather warm. Much too warm to have worn two layers and a coat in anticipation. I’ve only encountered about 6 locals so far but they’re all really friendly. Anyway, I best dash. I’ll get some food, catch up on some news and then head back out to see what’s around this area
