Nokia Launches DT-601 and DC-19 Chargers Posted: 11 Sep 2013 03:17 AM PDT
Today, Nokia has quitely launched two new accessories. The DC-19 portable charging stick, and the DT-601 Wireless Charging plate. The DC-19 is an updated version of the DC-16 Charging stick, and comes in Cyan, Yellow and White. Packing a 3,200 mAh battery, it is sure to fill up your favourite Lumia, and then some!
The planned availability of the DC-19 is from this month and will cost €29. Next up, we have a new Wireless Charging plate, the DT-601. Its as powerful as the standard Wireless chargers, just smaller, almost “like a lollipop” Availability will first start in Asia-Pacific from this month, rolling out to Europe and America in the following months, costing €29. Yellow, cyan, bright red, black, and white colours will be available. |
Posted: 10 Sep 2013 11:18 PM PDT I don’t know if this slipped my memory or if it is entirely new to me. This prototype from ex Nokia engineers was apparently cancelled by Nokia management 10 years ago because of fears that no one would want a phone that would have lots of finger prints on its screen. To be fair, a touch screen only phone was thought of as ludicrous in 2007 when iPhone was first announced. It wasn’t just Nokia, but everyone else who saw only the drawbacks from having physical keypads and QWERTYs. Things like this need a visionary to dictate what people WILL want, as opposed to simply catering to their current ‘needs’ which they aren’t aware of.
I’m not sure if this predates the 7700 from 2003, but it looks completely different and something possibly acceptable in design and size for that time. P800 btw was from 2002. I remember it going up against the 7650/3650 in newspapers and thinking, dayuuum, these phones are sooo cool, whilst my parents thought these colour screen thingies with cameras were gimmicks. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard or seen examples of some potential Nokia game changers where Nokia management canned the idea perhaps due to lacking the insight to see the real potential. Too much bureaucracy, too many layers of management, too many disjointed teams not speaking to each other and more leading to Nokia at the time sometimes missing some great opportunities that would have kept them even further ahead from the competition.

Dear CNET: Facebook is DEEPLY integrated into WP and yes I can upload to instagram from Nokia Lumia Posted: 10 Sep 2013 10:56 PM PDT
A recent review of the Nokia Lumia 1020 seems to have angered some peeps. Watching the start of it, it seemed to start on a positive at first but then goes on to add some incorrect information as ‘negative’ points such as:
1/16000 shutter speed demo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poYq3LfPfUg Opinions are one thing but incorrect information is another. She goes to pick up the iPhone and calls the 1020 performance shameful. CNET actually says the 1020 is great for festivals as it’s not going to be moving. Her verdict is that she’d rather a phone like the iPhone that ‘does everything’ rather than a 41mp camera that doesn’t do much else. That’s not really what every other review said but it’s ok to have a different take on it. Here’s Alvester’s comments (and cheers for the tip!)

Remember that post where we mentioned the upcoming polycarbonate iPhone 5C looked like a Nokia? It wasn’t us that originally saw the similarity, but commenters across the web and even Engadget went on to recognize that resemblance. If anything, hurray for the celebration of bright colour in phones which Nokia has been working hard to reinvigorate in the industry. Nokia UK’s social media peeps tweets a thanks to Apple. https://twitter.com/nokia_uk/status/377483408043036672/photo/1 Cheers Alvester for the tip! |
