Weekend Read: the logic behind the Lumia 1520. “the Bandit” Posted: 14 Sep 2013 08:09 PM PDT LAWLESS Its been circulating the news kind of like a dangerous criminal on the loose and its the second worst kept secret ever right after the Lumia 1020. Its been photographed, screenshot and compared to other phones and lets just say it dwarfed all the phones that got near it on the physical side of things. Even if you didn’t read the title most of you will know what I’m talking about; its the Nokia Lumia 1520, appropriately named the Bandit.
Specs speculations (see what I did there ) As far as specs goes its what every spec geek wanted until Apple started the 64 bit hype just a mere week ago. The Lumia 1520 is powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest the Snapdragon 800 with two gigs of ram, a 1080p display and a monstrous 6″ display, and it also packs a 3400mAh, a Carl Ziess 20mp snapper that takes 5mp/16mp pics (hopefully with OIS) and an SD card to the joy of everyone. Creating the demand As Samsung created this genre of phones, it focused on the taking notes aspect of things as a way of justifying the extra screen state and the overall sacrifices of carrying a big phone (at the time), or at least it seemed this way. Almost no one can claim that the note taking abilities in the Note series is gimmicky, after all its being made using Wacom technologies; a leader in interactive pen displays & digital drawing tablets. BUT it would seem that the note taking experience for many comes second to watching YouTube, browsing the web and playing games using the edge of a big screen with large battery combination. This is what inspired Sony not to follow the way of the PEN. Take the Sony Xperia Z Ultra for example it didn’t include a pen or an active digitizer though you can buy one from Sony or use a pencil/metal pen down to 1 mm accuracy. (seems like Super sensitive touch or a variation on it; Synaptic or Atmel) Sony’s pitch made up for that loss with an incredibly thin device a great display and by waterproofing it making the Xperia Z Ultra the best phablet to use while taking a bath or out near a pool.
Nokia’s pitch
Nokia’s Achilles heel with the Bandit.
What about you? would you be interested in buying this bad boy. (See what I did there ) Thanks for reading and have a good weekend. P.S we apologize for any picture that went without being credited I just couldn’t find the actual original source for them. |
Lumia 1520 Launch Expected in Late October Rather than September Posted: 14 Sep 2013 11:41 AM PDT For a while now everyone has been insistent that the Lumia 1520 will launch on September the 26th in New York City. However recent rumors by @evleaks and Tom Warren of the Verge both match up to what we at MNB have heard, that the launch will instead take place in late October (2nd or 3rd week). We’ve also heard that the location is no longer NYC, but we can’t comment on the new venue.
So that gives Nokia almost an extra month to prepare for the 1520 and possibly the tablet launch as well, that also means there should be no excuse for further launch delays or botched releases. The only question is at the rate these leaks are coming, will there be anything left to announce? |
Windows Phone Marketplace Witnessing Over 9 Million Daily Transactions Posted: 14 Sep 2013 11:36 AM PDT Today Microsoft announced that the WP marketplace is now achieving over 9,000,000 paid transactions a day. Those include both app purchases and in-app purchases/unlocks, which is pretty cool. Microsoft have also reworked the way they pay-out to developers when purchases are made via carrier billing. As previously it would take up to 3 months for a developer to get paid his earnings through carrier billing. Now however Microsoft say that all payments will be made available within 30 days, great news for developers! Especially since carrier billing seems to be a huge hit.

Where’s My Water 2 Comes to WP8, Android Users Still Waiting Posted: 14 Sep 2013 11:21 AM PDT Where’s my water was a pretty big game about a year ago, with multiple side launches such as Where’s my Perry and Where’s my Mickey. The second installment of the game (yes, you guessed it; Where’s My Water 2) has just been released on WP8. Surprisingly the game hasn’t been made available for Android devices yet! (I’ll count that as a win). The game unfortunately is suffering from some lag at the moment, as it takes a while to respond and has some issues, but hopefully those can be fixed soon. You can grab the app from the link below. Oh did I mention it was free? http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/where-my-water- 2/28a3665b-d5c7-4afa-b362-962c2b79e024

Nokia All But Confirms Large Screened Phone in Feedback Survey, Just Not Sure What to Call It Posted: 14 Sep 2013 10:11 AM PDT We’ve seen plenty of the Lumia 1520, all that remains now besides a few details is the official announcement. But apparently Nokia have one more problem in the way, their not really sure what to call it. In the feedback survey seen above they posted some questions regarding the popular term being used for large screen devices “Phablets” as they’re called. So what do you think of the word phablet? Should Nokia push it, or should they look for a new term? |

Without a contract, the phone will cost you If you can’t wait to wrap your hands around one of these beauties, here’s your chance to be one of the 1st ones to have it. It seems that from the 25th onwards, I’ll have a new Lumia to carry around on me! Note: You will have to pay £49.99 upfront to reserve it which will be taken off the price of the handset when you pick up in store. |
Nokia Lumia 1020 Now $149 On Contract Via Amazon Posted: 14 Sep 2013 05:16 AM PDT It was only last week that a one day price cut of the Lumia 1020 from $250/300 to $200 sent it near the top of the best sellers list. Well now Amazon has cut the price down to $150 (opposed to the official $200 pricing on Att.com). You can grab it in all three colors below; unless you’re waiting for something MUCH bigger.

Verizon Branded Lumia 1520 Variant Pops Up, Shows off 20 Mp PureView Camera Posted: 14 Sep 2013 01:12 AM PDT For anyone worried that the 1520 would be an At&t exclusive in the US, breathe easy. It seems that Verizon will get their own variant of the 1520, albeit slightly different as seen in the leaked image above. Notice that the flash placement and speakers are both different than the original leaks, as well as the fact that there doesn’t seem to be any discernable camera bump compared to the image below. The 5 dots on the top of the device also seem to be missing, whatever they are.
