Former Nokia MD for India and MEA becomes Pepsi Co India’s Chairman and CEO

D Shivakumar, previously heading Nokia India and Middle East and Africa for 8 years until June 2013, is now Pepsi Co India’s Chairman and CEO. His stint at Nokia apparently showed how he could take a multi-billion dollar business to the next level. Pepsi Co India has been working without a chief since their last one ditched them to go to Cadbury Kraft.

Well there’s one previous Nokia ‘CEO’ going to another CEO position.

3D Printed Jolla Phone Cover

Posted: 09 Dec 2013 02:37 PM PST

Screen Shot 2013-12-09 at 22.32.55Initially, I thought this might be a sleek ‘other half’ style cover but it’s actually more of a protective cover that you put over the whole phone as opposed to being a swappable case (e.g. attempts with the 820).

It’s interesting nonetheless so see such home made accessories. I modified a case for my 1020 some months ago but due to schedule/exams and whatnot I’ve not been able to post about them! I should be ‘free’ from next Tuesday till Xmas so I’ll try and post about it then.

Anyway, more pictures of this case at http://www.minifactory.fi/3d-printed-jolla-cover

MNB RG: Latest StatCounter in Finland, Series 40 anomaly fixed and how has D&S sale affected the numbers

Posted: 09 Dec 2013 05:20 AM PST

statcounter

It’s been a while since we looked at Statcounter, so here’s Janne checking up on how it’s doing now the S40 glitch is ‘fixed’. Cheers Janne!

_____

We have been following Nokia’s adventures on StatCounter e.g. in Finland to gather some input into how the “installed base” evolves, through web usage proxy measurement. One baffling topic was the Series 40 situation (http://mynokiablog.com/2013/03/22/mnb-rg-statcounter-baffled-by-finnish-series-40-data-seems-to-adjust/), suddenly raising to great heights in early 2013 in Finland and remaining there. It was suggested that Nokia Xpress Browser proxy usage might be the reason, but initially StatCounter seemed to reject this.

It does seem like, though, that this was the case per their August update and the rise was because of foreign traffic routed through Nokia’s servers – and indeed, as such, was anomalous. So, even though Asha 503 (http://mynokiablog.com/2013/12/05/mnb-rg-dual-shot-nokia-asha-503-unboxing-yellow/) just came on sale here and I’d expect sells reasonably nicely here, it isn’t expected to blow another hole into Finnish mobile web browsing stats. Interestingly StatCounter mentions Lumia Xpress Browser identifies as Asha 311.

In the image the August update, plus StatCounter’s Mobile OS situation in Finland as of now. It is again easier to follow the progress now that the Series 40 anomaly has been removed. Windows Phone has risen compared to before the time Series 40 anomaly, but seems to have flat-lined this autumn. Whether or not that is related to the Nokia D&S news, lack of new Lumia products or just lack of further growth demand is harder to tell. It will be interesting to see how and when Finland’s perception of the soon-formerly-Nokia products evolves over time.

NokConv: THE NEW BH-121: COOL, COLOURFUL AND SQUARE

Nokia Conversations has unveiled the Nokia BH-121 (aka Guru), a wireless bluetooth headset we have been expecting for a fair while.

BH-121

Coming in a range of colours (yellow, red, cyan and black), the BH-121 is the perfect Lumia headset, having a small (at least in my opinion) footprint of just 39 mm x 39 mm x 12 mm.

It will be on sale from this month, priced at €39

5″ Sammy WP Rumoured: Sammy tries to silence user whose S4 caught fire

Posted: 09 Dec 2013 12:01 AM PST

Screen Shot 2013-12-09 at 07.50.11

There’s some rumours that the Giant Samsung may not have completely given up on WP as a new 5″ device has been seen in some Indian import records (5″, 1080p, S800 – via WMPU).

In other Samsung related news, this is something we should get used to now regarding their shifty practices (e.g. leaving bloggers behind if they don’t act as PR, something Nokia came in to the rescue for; having a mass of fake hate for competitor handsets on forums; doctored benchmark results; copied handsets on the coat tails of something famous). Neowin reports of a user slapped with a NDA, asking them to take down a video showing their Galaxy S4 catching fire. Not really the best way to deal with your customers. Now that same guy is on video talking about the NDA.

Video has some profanity.

Funnily enough, just last week I saw a user tweet about their Nokia that had a problem. There was an exchange already on the way but the user didn’t want to be left without a phone. Nokia asked for their details to resolve it. Done, done and done. Anyway would explain that more but gtg.
