Rare Peek Behind the Scenes at Nokia’s Factories Described as “Magical”

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 11:52 AM PST

While studying for my upcoming surgery exam on reddit; funny how that happens (search Arteries, get redirected to /r/Gore get redirected to Front Page). Anyways one facebook user who just picked up a new Nokia Windows Phone is pretty happy with it. Except for the images of one of the “magical”  factory workers saved on the camera for “quality assurance tests”.

Still this post made me crack up, seems like the factory workers have a bit of fun every now and then? (good for them if so!) I wonder what I’ll get on my Lumia once it reaches?

Lumia 920 off to a good start in the Netherlands

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 07:58 AM PST

For the avid Nokia news follower this might be getting old, but the Lumia 920 seems to be in very strong demand, again. This week Nokia announced that the 920 and 820 are going on sale in January 2013 in the Netherlands with pre-orders starting this week which appear to be off to a promising start.

Currently you can pre-order a 920 via three channels (The PhoneHouse, PDAshop.nl and bol.com) all of these channels are reporting very strong demand for the Lumia 920. The Phone House is quoted saying that demand for the 920 is equal to that of the iPhone 5 in the first week.

The other two retailers aren't as specific, but PDAshop is overwhelmed by demand and says: 'demand is exceeding our expectations'

We have already seen news about Nokia receiving 2.5 million orders for the 920, although that didn't appear too credible, with this news from the Netherlands the claim can be substantiated at least a bit.

Nokia Announces PhotoBeamer, Instantly Share Photos on ANY Screen

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 03:03 AM PST

Nokia have just announced a new app for WP8 devices called “PhotoBeamer” which allows you to share the photos on your phone with any screen as long as it’s browser supported. Setting it up couldn’t be any easier, simply go to Photobeamer.com and scan the QR code on the browser with your phone, after which the magic happens and the photos are instantly visible on your PC/MAC.

The magic behind this comes thanks to Nokia’s acquisition of Scalados imaging, who stated that:

"We had two main aims for PhotoBeamer: to make sharing as simple as possible. But also to make it as fast as possible."

Photobeamer works on 3G, 4G and Wifi and instantly caches the next photos in your gallery for a smoother stream, and of course the QR code is randomized each time so it’s totally secure. I seriously can’t wait to try this out!

Download PhotoBeamer on your Lumia 920 or 820 here:

Video: Nokia & deadmau5 ‘This is Lumia’ light show in London — NOKIA UK

Posted: 29 Nov 2012 10:37 PM PST

Woops, I forgot this took place a couple of days ago. I had received mails about it, with promotional banners saying things like “Don’t be afraid of the Dark”. What am I on about? The return of Deadmaeu5 to help promote Nokia Lumia, including a light show. It’s a very down to earth affair.

by

On Wednesday 28th November 2012, exactly one year after lighting up Millbank Tower (http://youtu.be/SX2Gd-kqV5s), deadmau5 returned to London for another audiovisual spectacular, “This Is Lumia”.

With the latest smartphones featuring the best low-light imaging as well as the unique Nokia Music app (with exclusive deadmau5 playlist), it was the perfect way to celebrate the launch of the Nokia Lumia 920 & Lumia 820

The intimate crowd at Flat Iron Square in Southwark was treated to an array of light, a few surprises and of course a flawless set from the inimitable deadmau5!

Every facet of the square was rigged with specially developed software so that it would appear as if the square was being ‘played’ like a musical instrument.

From the pulsating traffic cones to the flashing dustbins, the giant mirror balls to deadmau5 himself, make sure you don’t miss a beat by catching all the highlights here.
