Nokia Lumia 505 leaked?

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 12:20 PM PST

The above is supposedly the Nokia Lumia 505. Possibly a variant to the 510 or completely different lineage. It sports a more rectangular design unlike the 710-like 510.

Specs comparable to 510. Perhaps 3.5-4″ screen, 800MHz single core, 256MB RAM. Note the homescreen – WP7.8 (old windows phone button).

Would be great if it was WP8 but oh well. Hardware for budget.

Videos: Nokia Lumia 920 vs iPhone 5 video recording

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 12:16 PM PST

First up, video comparison between the Nokia Lumia 920 and iPhone 5.

This is split screen. iPhone 5 has a much narrower field of view. It looks overly misty in the iPhone video, as well as a lot more shaky.

Some Christmasy songs with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Not precisely the same viewpoint.

Video: Lumia 920 Takes on an AK-47 and Plastic Explosives

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 10:49 AM PST

We’ve grown accustomed to people going to great lengths to try and destroy any Nokia phone (usually failing to do so); but apparently even the mighty 920 can’t stand up to an AK-47 and then being blasted to bits with plastic explosives. Watch the video to see the terror and then gently hug your own Nokia reassuringly.

Press Release: Nokia to sell and lease back head office building

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 01:35 AM PST

This was reported back in early October but now it’s official. Here’s the press release.

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/10/03/nokia-staying-in-espoo-hq-but-considers-selling-and-renting-to-cut-maintenance-and-repair-costs/

It’s worth reading the link above as I feel the discussion may recycle itself.

Espoo, Finland – Nokia has agreed to sell and lease back its head office building in Espoo, Finland on a long-term lease to Finland-based Exilion. We expect to complete the sale by the end of 2012. The selling price is EUR 170 million.

“We had a comprehensive sales process with both Finnish and foreign investors and we are very pleased with this outcome. As we have said before, owning real estate is not part of Nokia’s core business and when good opportunities arise we are willing to exit these types of non-core assets. We are naturally continuing to operate in our head office building on a long-term basis,” said Timo Ihamuotila, CFO, Nokia.

Nokia Lumia 920 top WP8 according to AdDuplex, Nokia top WP manufacturer

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 01:08 AM PST

Paul Thurott has some interesting data from advertising firm AdDuplex with their latest report covering WP8. Note, this is not directly sales numbers, just extrapolation from AdDuplex I guess.

http://winsupersite.com/windows-phone/interesting-windows-phone-stats

Nokia Lumia 920 is the most popular WP8 device, no surprises there. It is clearly the best one.

Nokia holds the most with over 70% of the pie (Thurott says 76%, my bad math can only see 71). You can try to extrapolate numbers for the 920 as there’s apparently 3% of overall WP sales.

Not sure precisely what the sales are but I’m really liking seeing Nokia Lumia penetrate more into everyday life. Whether that means seeing it in person or seeing people post self pics on reddit with Nokia Lumias :) .

Growth in Mexico, Brazil and Finland is said to be quite notable.

Nokia PureView wins Best Innovation category for Phone Arena #Nokia808PureView #NokiaLumia920

PhoneArena’s Most Innovative category for PureView that is featured in both the amazing Nokia 808 PureView (Huge 41MP Sensor) and innovative Nokia Lumia 920 (OIS)

http://www.phonearena.com/news/PhoneArena-Awards-2012-Best-Innovation_id37253

It didn’t take us long to conclude that Nokia should be at the top spot in today’s category with its PureView imaging technology. First introduced in the Nokia 808 PureView, it allowed taking photos with outstanding quality and resolution never before seen on a phone. Users can capture massive, 38-megapixel photos, or shrink those pixels down to a marvelous 5- or 8-megapixel image. In addition, the size of the sensor allows zooming in and out while shooting without sacrificing quality. No moving optics needed! Try doing that with any other smartphone! But Nokia didn’t stop there because the Nokia Lumia 920 is worthy of carrying the PureView tag as well. Its sensor may not have an outrageous pixel count, but its wide aperture combined with optical image stabilization allow one to take impressive low-light shots.

Second place went to Android in random devices, with third going to the pico projector packing galaxy beam.

Cheers Ronaldo for the tip!
