Lumia 820 Cut Down to $0.01 on Amazon Wireless

The Lumia 820 already undercuts both the 810 and 822 in terms of pricing (available for $49.99 through At&t’s store); Amazon Wireless have further cut down the pricing to the killer price of 1 cent. For anyone who wants a Lumia WP but doesn’t mind the lower resolution camera and lack of PureView the 820 is the phone for you, especially since HTC have backed out of the Mid Range game

HTC’s 8S Not Coming to USA; Leaves Mid-Range Market to Lumias

Posted: 01 Dec 2012 08:09 AM PST

Back in September both Nokia and HTC announced two new WP* devices, one High end device (920/8X) and one low end device (820/8S); Nokia also doubled down on all the big carriers providing multiple variants of the 820 to T-Mobile and Verizon with the 810 and 822. However it seems that dominating the medium-range WP8 market is going to be a lot easier for Nokia, at least as far as the USA is involved. Today HTC published a statement that the 8S WILL NOT be released in the US:

"The Windows Phone 8X by HTC is our signature Windows Phone available at AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless in the U.S. With our focus on the Windows Phone 8X by HTC, the Windows Phone 8S is not currently planned for distribution in the U.S. market."

Perhaps HTC are trying to pull an Apple, by making only one high range device available (and a second for Android maybe); either way this is good news for Nokia’s US marketshare, now if only some of those pesky Low-End Androids would take a hint.

WP store allows downloading and manual reinstallation of apps?

This might not be immediately useful for the general public, but Windows Phone Store now apparently allows you to download apps to install later without needing a developer unlocked phone it seems.

The phone might need an SD card though.

I can see this useful for keeping backups, in case those apps disappear from the store. It might also be useful for quick sharing between family/friends. Symbian users have been very familiar with this format.

Regarding reinstallation, automatic back up and restore of apps works really well in a very fuss/effort free reinstallation of all your apps in WP8, so it’s not really necessary for that.

Free apps work fine, paid apps with trials appear as trials for later purchasing. Paid apps without trial can only be installed after purchase. It seems only the latest version will install.

Video: Sound Recording Dream, Nokia Lumia 920 vs the shockingly terrible, ear bleeding HTC 8X (#Lumiawannabe)

When you accidentally buy a clone of a Lumia, such as those produced by HTCopypasta, you’re just asking for a future of pain and misery.

It’s not as if you’d do it because it was the cheaper alternative. For those that do, listen and watch. You can make up for your mistake. Return that and get the real deal.

In the video below you can see and hear the Nokia Lumia 920 in comparison with the shockingly diabolical Lumiawannabe 8X.

Please, headphone users, be warned when this HT actual Crap comes on as there might be some casualties.

[Just some playful banter HTCopypasta fans]
