Nokia Lumia 1020 gets drop tested by accident!

Posted: 10 Aug 2013 04:33 PM PDT

So there’s this cute nurse named Sheila E, who was unboxing  the Nokia Lumia 1020 while standing up outdoors.
The girl stood there wearing blue scrubs and going through the motions of unboxing a flagship device, having just showed off the lanyard, the Lumia 1020 slipped from her hands making a sound only a brick would make.

Sheila picked the phone up while trying to calm the nerves of Mark the camera man (&her husband) which we don’t see, “are you OK Mark?” she said while checking the Lumia 1020 for damage.

I went through the comments and Sheila answered the question if the Lumia 1020 turned out OK which it did while taking a little chip on the corner (As its Poly-carbonate inherently painted, it wouldn’t be noticed easily.)

Whats funny is all the Youtube comments on that video which really goes to show that people’s trust in Nokia’s build quality is not diminishing.

I also liked how she hold the phone close to her heart as she picks it up :)

Haven’t done a lumiappdates in a while (myself) as for some reason my store wasn’t showing me updates. Not sure if that has anything to do with me trying to update snapchat even though it wasn’t in the store anymore?

Video: Stereo audio recording for Nokia Lumia 920 with Nokia Pro Cam

Before the Nokia Amber update, Nokia Lumia 920 was recording (albeit in very high quality) mono audio.

But, post Amber update and with Nokia Pro Cam, you can now record in stereo. According to the datasheet, there are not simply two but three high amplitude audio capture microphones. Until now only one has been active for recording video (and secondary for noise cancelling?)

Here’s a comparison as shared very nicely with us by HrabiaMol (thanks!). I suggest putting on some headphones/play through stereo speakers that are of some decent distance for channel separation.

Having Stereo Audio helps give a little bit more depth to the video (scene permitting). I believe all the 92x will get stereo recording post amber/nokia pro cam.

Nice. Nokia giving users hardware now, and then when MS gets their act together, the software to utilise it.

My Dream Nokia #96: Nokia Lumia 1080 with WP8.1 Concept

There are a few slides over at neowin detailing their latest Nokia Lumia concept featuring what they’d like to see in WP8.1, the Nokia Lumia 1080.

Unlike the rumoured 6″ Nokia Phablet, this is a more ‘manageable’ 5.5″. Something unseen in all of the flagships is expandable memory. It features the snapdragon 800 CPU, 2.3GHz Quadcore  Krait 400 with Adreno 330 GPU and ample 3200mAh.

The software side sees some immediate changes to the homescreen. Note the additional small tile (rumours so far suggested a 6 small tile width total, though this would make sense on a larger 6″ display). Tiles are also separated into categories.

There’s loads more to see over at:

Cheers ‘Lumia1080′ for the tip
