Samsung Releases Exclusive Folders for Start Screen App; Take Note Microsoft

Posted: 02 Aug 2013 08:21 AM PDT

DSC03264One of the features that users have been clamoring for in the upcoming releases of Windows Phone would have to be a folders option, right alongside the need for a notification center. Surprisingly Samsung are the first to come up with a solution to this situation with their exclusive “App Folder” (for Samsung WPs/Atvis). The app as seen in the image above allows you to add multiple shortcuts to a single tile, allowing you to organize groups of tile functions together.

Interestingly the app doesn’t seem to support including more than 4 tiles in the medium sized tile folder, while you’d only get an extra two apps in using the double wide tile (10 apps rather than 8); I’m sure there’s a slightly more elegant solution as we’ve seen in countless renders before, but once again OEM’s are doing Microsoft’s job. Hopefully we’ll see some sort of filing system included in the WP 8.1 update, but until then it is nice to see that someone other Nokia cares enough to do something about WP.

*If you happen to have a Samsung WP grab the app from over here:

Rudy Huyn’s 6tagram Instagram Client to be Officially Supported by Instagram

Posted: 02 Aug 2013 08:07 AM PDT

DSC03262The never ending Instagram on Windows Phone controversy has just gotten a whole lot more interesting, Rudy Huyn, developer of 6sec (vine client) and the winner of the WP App Maddness has been sharing some interesting news about his latest project 6tagram on twitter. From what I (and others have gathered) Instagram have been in contact with RUdy regarding his app, and are now in the process of reviewing it (and giving their blessings? or maybe more APIs?) to the app. 6tagram although still in beta already has one feature that no other WP Instagram client has, geotagging of photos and adding it to the map, a pretty huge deal. Hopefull that would mean that WP loyalists would no longer have to wait and pray to get the latest features, such as Instagram video or the latest filters.

So you guys excited yet? I am!

Nokia 7650 vs Nokia Lumia 1020

Following the gallery with the Nokia N95, here’s a comparison of the 1020 with the Nokia 7650.

The Nokia 7650 was the first Nokia to make me think that there’s so much more that a phone could do than simply text/call and play pixelated snake games.

This was the first Nokia with an integrated camera, one of the very first camera phones back when camera phones were said to be gimmicks. Folks said they wouldn’t catch on.

Here we are with the latest iteration of a Nokia with PureView – the brand of technology folks are praising for imaging prowess. Since the Nokia 7650, Nokia went on to becoming the number 1 seller of cameras. With Nokia camera phones, folks could leave their digital cameras behind without worry. Nokia fans experienced this with the N82, N8, and 808. Now hopefully the masses, on recommendation of the media, will feel the same.

Nokia Lumia 1020 – the NEW iPhone?

An interesting article over at at TGdaily compares the Nokia Lumia 1020 as being like the new iPhone. It was magical and the exclusivity and rarity added to that special feeling the initial bunch of users got.

The camera in the 1020 compared to the competition is unique and amazes people when they see how well it performs. Whilst some try to put down the importance of a camera now Lumia has the a killer one, clearly manufacturers know consumers care. HTC and ultrapixels, now Motorola and their pixelbinning (where have we heard that?) clearpixel.

Right now only those who can really afford to can pay that initial $300 on contract, plus it is still exclusive to AT&T.

Could that work in Nokia’s favour? I mean, remember when readers and such reported that sales people were recommending the 8X as having superior features because it cost more than the 920?

That exclusivity does help in terms of push from the carrier I guess. Again whilst the 8x was on all carriers, didn’t the 920 sell more (relatively in NAM). There’s an article I quickly glanced over at WPCentral that shows AT&T taking 1020 promotion quite seriously.

Or does the 1020 need to be cheaper and available at all networks?
