We’re in London baby! Haha. Check out the cast and crew of Nokia fans above ready and waiting for Nokia’s announcement in a few hours.

For a larger image of the above, click here.

Yesterday (because that’s how long it took to sort the photos and upload them on this connection :p) at the Nokia HQ, the attendees that @Nokia_Connects collected up got together for some food, drink and a little chat & mingle.

The full set is up on flickr.

Swiiish. Once the fish eye was on it was easier to get in the photos. One of my tutors said to get in the photos otherwise it could be anyone there at the event and not me so…there we go. I’m there too :p

I think we’re all looking at the viewfinder and not the camera haha.

Say hello :)

Hands On With the Lumia 928

Posted: 13 May 2013 01:34 PM PDT

dsc06743After Mark’s unboxing of the 928 earlier, both the Verge and Engadget have released a “hands on” with Verizon’s latest Lumia; the 928. Although admittedly there isn’t much new to the 928 short of its Xenon flash and sharper edges Engadget seems to be lamenting the loss of the bright colors and curved glass (possibly even the heavier weight as well?).

Nokia had a good, if extremely weighty, thing going with the Lumia 920 — its curved chassis, 2.5D glass, eye-popping colors and, of course, highly-touted imaging capabilities. The 928 abandons all but that latter bit, with a lighter body that falls more in line with the live-tiled aesthetic of Windows Phone 8 and a black and white color scheme that screams serious business; a move made, no doubt, to broaden its consumer appeal. Though the build quality remains just as solid as ever, there’s an unmistakable sense of cheapness to the 928. The glossy plastic looks chintzy and doesn’t give the impression that it’d survive too many hard knocks.

We are being drip fed juicy info bit by bit today. Here’s a side view of the Nokia Lumia 925 from @evleaks. You can see the small hump against the slim side profile.

Evleaks says the back view will come tomorrow :p.

Just to make sure that you were 100% aware of the metallic content of tomorrow’s soon to be announced device, NokConv reminds us to ‘Steel yourself for the next instalment’

http://conversations.nokia.com/2013/05/13/steel-yourself-for-the-next-instalment/

Find out on Tuesday May 14th.

There's a special, invite-only event in London. And it will all be here, too, on Nokia Conversations.

We'll be hosting a live webcast from the event for you here on Conversations, starting at the following times:

London: 10am

Helsinki: noon

Beijing: 5pm

I’m heading to London now, just waiting up by the train station. I’m not quite sure who I’m supposed to meet when I get there and where so if anyone knows or could get in touch with the right peeps, that would be cool, thanks :D Otherwise I might be stranded there (can’t seem to get in touch with the Nokia peeps myself)

Cheers Viipottaja for the heads up

Verizon Nokia Lumia 928 Unboxing of the first Xenon Lumia

Mark from TheNokiaBlog has just unboxed the Nokia Lumia 928 in pictures.

Head on over to his blog to see them.

There’s a big red box for this white 928.

I’m on a mobile connection which compresses the images so it wasn’t quite clear why this 928 was so floppy at first :p

LeakyLeak: Lumia 925 AKA Catwalk, shows off metal goodness

Nice timing by @evleaks. Straight after my exams had just finished I was greeted to the leaked images of the Nokia Lumia 925 aka Catwalk that will be officially announced tomorrow.

Ali:

There were those who lost hope and said it would never come, but @evleaks has delivered once again, with only a day to go on tomorrow’s unveiling we finally have a clear look at the Lumia 925, AKA the full bodied aluminum catwalk.

Interestingly the phone doesn’t carry any carrier branding, although rumors had it pinged for the US’s T-Mobile.

From what we can see the phone does indeed look quite slim (hardly thick enough to carry that 3.5mm port properly), and the bezzel around the sides seems to gave been reduced a bit. Thankfully it doesn’t seem to share much resemblance to the previously leaked image which had a dull grey look and a very disturbing camera hump on the back, we of course can’t see the back from this angle, but our fingers are crossed.

Catwalk

http://mynokiablog.com/2013/04/17/nokias-aluminum-bodied-catwalk-surfaced

In fact it doesn’t seem to  be at all related to the image above, seeing how it appears much thicker, and has an assortment of ports up top rather than the lone 3.5mm headphone jack in @evleaks’ render. The only real similarity between the two is that little “gap junction” on the side of the phone

Are there two devices in the Nokia Teaser Ads? Catwalk AND EOS? Tale of Two Humps

There’s been a lot of discussion over what we all just saw yesterday in Nokia’s Channel 4 new Lumia teaser.

http://mynokiablog.com/2013/05/12/video-new-nokia-lumia-catwalk-camera-on-show-opticalz/

More than your eyes can see. Is it because there are more phones in the video than our eyes can see (in addition to perhaps actually having some special optics?)

The hump below, that shiny metal hump looks very different to the round volcano like hump

on this device. You woudn’t really see a distinction in side view given that there’s no shiny metal bit.

It seems a bit too early for EOS (given that we’ve all resigned to wait for it at Nokia World after it not appearing at MWC). But look how long that metal strip seems to be.

It reminds me of this.

What is it?It’s the 808 hump.

What about this?

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 08.49.42

That’s the hump from the N8.

There’s clearly some hump thing going on there that is not from the catwalk.

As Andrew_b said:

I think the advert is showing two devices. An optical zoom polycarbonate backed cameraphone with the round hump and LED flash, then the slim 41mpix aluminium device having pureview 1 and xenon flash. The 41mpix phone is shown only once from the side view with a very slim aluminium hump, possibly just 1.5-2mm deep.

Arorak was thinking the same but later decided it was the same phone

Looks like they will be announcing 2 new lumias. I see 2 different Lumias, one at the very beginning with big speaker bar (black color) and other one with a big Lens with a hump, IMO. Anyone thinks the same?

My bad that's a front of the device.

Andrew also feels the opticalZ suspicion in the other device.

See my comment below, I call an optical zoom lens. The round hump is much slimmer in the teaser ad, with a crater (lens retracted). The leaked images of the ugly big 'huwawei' hump were likely an attempt to hide the moving optics from spying eyes when the lens was extended

Speaking of craters, is that smoke coming out of it?

I’m sure I’ve heard flutters and mentions of OpticalZ returning to a Nokia. Not sure if this is it.

What if the lens looks bigger due to Nokia pushing for a larger aperture (hence seeing more than our eyes can see. My f/1.4 lens can pretty much see in the dark like my 920 can – though with different approaches)

Look how the ‘led’ sort of moves up out from the device on the side like a zoom lens. Haha, I’m just thinking too much about that.

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 09.00.01

tulip said (on the first post mentioning the teaser)

Probably not more megapixels than maybe 10-14. But this may have OIS and it may have a very large aperture – f/1.4 anyone? With larger apertures (=smaller f-numbers) you get in more light (=better picture quality) and decreased depth of field (=easier to isolate the subject from the background).

Checking out more comments I think it was crisscross that mentioned thinking there might have been some OpticalZ going on there.

Clearly loks like an optimal zoom, or some kind of telescopic lens at least. Next level of pureview, exciting!!!

Perhaps the music might be worth comparing too.

dss said the new soundtrack reminded him of Nokia’s first teaser for PureView

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 09.02.04If multiple devices are coming then they’d say ‘are coming’. But it says ‘is’ unless one of them doesn’t fall into the ‘Lumia’ line but something completely different. I don’t know. I’m just rambling on now due to pre-exam jitters.

Video & Gallery: Unboxing the Nokia Lumia 720 in Cyan

Posted: 13 May 2013 12:11 AM PDT

DSC02732

After falling in love with the Lumia 720 at MWC (and writing it love letters) the folks at Nokia Connects were kind enough to ship one over to Jordan for me to trial; in gorgeous Cyan as seen above! I played around with the 720 in Barcelona and fell in love with its size as well as the impressive camera, so I pretty much knew what I was getting (and liked it).

So check out the unboxing video below (Plus how to insert the Sim/Micro SD card):

Direct Link to video: http://youtu.be/n9ELEhGei_s (don’t forget to subscribe)

Also here’s a quick unboxing gallery, I must say the color of the 720 is perhaps an absolute nightmare when trying to capture it on camera, since it’s such a “vibrant” color that the camera seems to think it’s not natural and messes up the settings; the only way I managed to get an accurate representation of the color was by putting besides the Lumia 920 in red:
