Verizon’s Lumia 928 WILL NOT be Announced in London on the 14th of May

Posted: 07 May 2013 12:45 PM PDT

NUSA-CP-Lumia-928-Hero-v2-jpgThere’s been a lot of talk about when and where the Lumia 928 for Verizon will be announced, the latest of which is suggesting an announcement in London on May 14th (alongside what will probably be the Lumia 925/Catwalk). Besides the obvious reason that the Lumia 928 is a US destined phone (and therefore will probably be announced in the US) we can confirm that the Lumia 928 will NOT be presented at the London event, although we don’t know when it will actually be announced, we’re confident that it won’t be in London, nor on the 14th.

New Youtube, FourSquare and Facebook Beta all Coming to WP 7.X

Posted: 07 May 2013 12:24 PM PDT

wp_ss_20130430_0001With the new slew of apps coming out all refreshed and sparkly for WP8 some WP7.X users are bound to feel a tinge of jealousy, well fear not because according to Belfiore all the refreshed apps will soon be available on WP 7.X as well.

(Foursquare was mentioned to be coming somewhere else, can’t find it though :/ )

I’m not sure if it was #37 or a different piece, but one of the old sleek tablet designs have been updated by “PhoneDesigner” on facebook and it looks gorgeous.

Rumour: Nokia Max, 4.7″, Aluminium Nokia Catwalk with enhanced OIS and revised camera UI, Nokia Lumia 625.

Posted: 07 May 2013 11:36 AM PDT

We’ve received some information from ‘anonymous’ about some upcoming new Nokia Lumias. The Catwalk you’ve heard before but this other one is the ‘Nokia Max’ a 4.7″ device from Nokia. But that’s not their high end piece. Nope. That’s part of the new Nokia “bring high end experiences” to either low or mid-range (e.g. 720 and 520).

P.S. for those who don’t quite understand, the show “The Biggest Loser” is about obese/morbidly obese people losing weight, and the ones losing the most are ‘the biggest losers’ so in this context, that’s a slimmer 920 in the ‘catwalk’ (we’re not talking hadtocopypasta style loser)

Nokia Catwalk: 4.5″ IPS 720p display with PureMotionHD+, LTE, Aluminium, 16GB, 1.5Ghz S4, 1GB RAM, 2000mAh battery capacity , Optional wireless charging. Basically the Catwalk is the Lumia 920 after winning The Biggest Loser show.
Catwalk camera: Enhanced OIS performance, revised camera UI with Smart and Pro mode. Pro mode would have the manual adjustment ala Samsung Galaxy Camera.
Nokia Max: 4.7″ SuperSensitive 800×480 LCD, Unibody, LTE, 1.2Ghz S4, 512MB RAM, 2000mAh battery capacity. Max is going to be the cheapest LTE device with the largest display in the Lumia range.

In addition to this info from ‘anonymous’ we also have another tip that corroborates the existence of this low-high Lumia.

It turns out the 4.7″ handset is actually not in the 8xx range, not even in the 7xx range but amazingly in the 6xx region.

FourSquare for Windows Phone 8 Also Refreshed

Posted: 07 May 2013 09:32 AM PDT

Foursquare New

It seems like someone over at Redmond has been very busy, besides the completely overhauled Youtube app the official Foursquare app for WP8 has also just received a complete refresh. The app co-developed by Nokia and Microsoft is NOT a lumia exclusive, but apparently Lumia users get some extra love in the form of “feature optimizations”

Check out a quick video demo of the app below:

And grab it from the store here:

OneHandUnboxing: Anker Astro3 10,000mAh portable charger #Accessories (recorded on Nokia Lumia 920)

Posted: 07 May 2013 09:28 AM PDT

mnb(1)

Hey guys, this is a quick look at a couple of things that arrived in the post today that I picked up at Amazon. They’re both portable chargers, one is the trusty Nokia DC-16 charging stick. I’ve already got one and loved it so much (fast charging is ACE) that I’ve got another.

The one I’ve unboxed is the Anker Astro3 10,000mAh portable charger. I’ve never heard of it until now, it was just something I stumbled across when looking for another DC-16 and I thought it might be worth a try. Always useful when travelling to have a portable charger with me (useful when swapping batteries either isn’t possible or is inconvenient – e.g. whilst filming a video or using it as a hotspot. You kinda don’t want to turn the device off). As an example, I’ll be bringing this to London next week :) .

Amazon Link: I picked this up for £26.99 Anker® Astro3E Mobile Battery Pack 10000mAh External Battery Pack High Capacity Power Bank Charger (Dual 5V 3A USB Output)

This is the biggest capacity portable charger I’ve owned so far (you might have seen my other ones from Proporta, the 3,500 packs in white/black, the mini charging one and the tiny one that fits into a wallet). For 10,000mAh it’s much smaller than I expected (though larger than the ones I’ve previously owned).

It has two USB ports, and is charged through a MicroUSB port. With two USB ports, you can charge two different devices at the same time.

It’s supplied with a coiled old phone style cable which has exchangeable heads (microUSB, miniUSB, old iThangs and old Nokia pin chargers).

You also get a padded mesh carrier pack.

There are some pictures below and a one handed, handheld (no tripod) unboxing filmed on the Nokia Lumia 920.

Official Youtube App for WP8 Gets the Overhaul Treatment

Posted: 07 May 2013 09:16 AM PDT

Category768x1280_thumb_07E1936ANext in line to get the complete overhaul with new features and redesigned look is the official Youtube app for WP8, this coming about a week of the release of the all new Facebook Beta app.  The new youtube app adds a bunch of new features (that were honestly quite needed, metrotube has been my go to app for a while now)

What's new? Lots. The app now lets you pin videos, channels, playlists and search results right to your Start Screen. A new and innovative playlist design gives you easy access to videos using a touch-friendly filmstrip. Your YouTube profile, playlists, uploads, video lists are easier to manage. And there's no need to worry about the little ones viewing content you don't approve of, since you can now pin YouTube to Kid's Corner and limit content based on YouTube Safety Mode settings you configure.

Somewhat relevant, Joe Belfiore was asking on twitter today which app you think needs another overhaul (besides Facebook and Youtube obviously- plus I think Foursquare just got a refresh); for me it would be whatsapp (Which I know is on th sway) but I’d love to see some deeper integration, preferably like Facebook chat in the messaging hub:

You can grab the app from over here (might take a while to work since it was just published):

Unkown Nokia Phone Appears in Nokia Document Promising a “More Human Touch” (UPDATED)

Posted: 07 May 2013 08:15 AM PDT

nok-brandIn a document obtained by @evleaks over at phonearena an unknown Nokia (safe to assume it’s a Lumia) appeared as seen above. The phone displays a new “color” unlike the current range used in the polycarbonate Lumia designs (could it be catwalk? Anodized aluminum is sure to give off a similar sheen). In the document Nokia talk about rebuilding their brand image under the goal of being “More Human”.

Nokia sees three general mergers occurring in the confines of technology: that of the physical and digital, the virtual and real, and humans and device

However the source says not to expect Nokia to be ditching its trademark “connecting people” slogan anytime soon, instead the changes related to the “more Human” approach would be more visible in their advertisements as well as the actual products.

Don’t look for the “more human” mantra to pervade its way into product marketing, at least not in the same way that “Connecting people” has been adopted as a very front-facing tagline. This seems to be a deeper, guiding principal for the employees at Nokia

Update: It would appear the other phone in the image is none other than the Asha 311, sorry folks :/

Amazingly Awesome First Person Shooter N.O.V.A. 3 Coming to WP8 this Week

Posted: 07 May 2013 08:03 AM PDT

NOVA3WallpaperThere are two types of mobile games, those cute little time wasters with “pretty” graphics (like angry birds, fruit ninja, gravity guy etc.) and some pretty awesome graphic intense games that look like they belong on a PC or a console. At the top of the graphics intense list would have to be N.OV.A. 3, I played this on my iPad a while back and I simply couldn’t get over how amazing the graphics were.

Well according to WPC the game will join the WP8 marketplace this Wednesday, with a price-tag of $7:

N.O.V.A. 3 will cost $6.99 and clock in somewhere around 1 GB in download size. We'll have the download link for you on Wednesday!

This is probably the first true graphic intense game to grace the Windows Phone platform, but of course it remains to be seen whether it will carry the same level of visual awesomeness, or if the developers have taken shortcuts (similar to what used to happen with S^3 games), regardless check out the game trailer down below:

Ari Jaaksi joins the Jolla Board

Posted: 07 May 2013 05:36 AM PDT

Screen Shot 2013-05-07 at 13.29.45

Ari Jaaksi previously on the Maemo-MeeGo team, left to join HP for WebOS (We ‘swapped’ him for Peter Skillman). Some Nokia fans had a little joke about how Ari is somewhat the Angel of Death regarding these new promising OSes. Well, let’s hope not as he’s sort of back on the Maemo-MeeGo team as he joins the Jolla Board.

You might recall that it was Ari amongst a few ex Nokians that highlighted the ‘Symbian’ religion inside Nokia that hindered the potential of what could have been the next number 1 smartphone OS – Maemo

http://mynokiablog.com/2011/08/21/ari-jaaksi-symbian-religion-biggest-concern-on-maemo-was-not-how-good-it-was-but-how-it-would-affect-symbian/

Also, on another note, this seems to be the only photo we have of Ari as it’s what we see on all articles about him.
