Samsung has always paid the necessary attention to releasing low and mid-end devices for consumers that just want a smartphone to get the job done. Basing the design and the naming on the highly successful Galaxy S III,  the Galaxy S III Mini is both attractive in design and powerful enough to not let you down when you need it most. Samsung claim that it’s small size does not mean a compromise to performance.

The Galaxy S III Mini has a 4-inch display at a resolution of 800×480 of the AMOLED variety. It is powered by a dual-core CPU clocked a 1 Ghz and it has a 5 MP camera with flash on the back and a VGA front image sensor. There is 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage with the possibility of expanding it via a Micro SD card. The device runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with the latest version of the manufacturer’s TouchWiz interface, the same found on the Galaxy S III. Its dimensions are 121.6 x 63 x 9.9 mm and it weighs 111.5g. The battery has 1500mAh capacity. No word about pricing and availability has been released yet.

Sony Odin Specifications Leak: 5 Inch Display With Full HD Resolution

Posted: 11 Oct 2012 10:10 AM PDT

The Sony Xperia Odin has leaked before, as the definitive flagship from Sony, but without a list of specs to go with it. It may be the rumored Xperia X or some other device, but what’s certain is that it sounds like a cool smartphone. Sony Odin is now rumored to be the Sony flagship Android smartphone for 2013.

The details were posted on a forum that often provides information about Sony products, Esato. Apparently, there’s a member in there with inside info, who actually revealed the name Sony back in June, only to have it confirmed by leaks last week. Now we find out that Odin has a 5 inch Full HD screen, that doesn’t sound impossible, especially since Japan Display, the joint venture between Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi has reported that they’ll start production on such panels.

The handset will have 2 GB of RAM and it will have the APQ8064 processor at its heart. This is the same quad core Snapdragon S4 processor found inside the LG Optimus G. The leaks also say that the Sony Odin won’t be water resistant or dust proof, but frankly we don’t care about that. We only want a skinny design and top notch specs, that’s it. And finally, the source of the Odin information says that Sony is even preparing a 6 inch device. Once again take the info with a grain of salt.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer Hints at Surface Phone Again

Posted: 11 Oct 2012 07:12 AM PDT

Microsoft’s CEO, Steve Ballmer published his yearly letter to shareholders this week, in which he unveiled a new direction for the company he’s running. Aside from the Xbox and Surface tablet, Microsoft doesn’t make hardware products, but they really do want to start mattering on that market as well.

MS wants to make a name in the own branded device area and they could start with a phone this time. Could it be the Surface Phone that has been in the rumors for such a long time? Microsoft wants to do what Apple has been doing for years: make its own hardware and software for a certain device. Ballmer did want to mention that Microsoft won’t abandon its partners anytime soon. They promise to continue to work with a vast ecosystem of partners, “to deliver a broad spectrum of Windows PCs, tablets and phones”.

He also mentions that there are over 1.3 billion Windows users around the globe. The official sees potential for growth in areas like cloud computing and a common ecosystem for PCs, tablets and phones, plus server and cloud networks. Could we see that mythical Windows Phone Surface handset at the WP8 event in late October?

LG Google Nexus Gets Pictured in Detailed Shots, Compared to the iPhone

Posted: 11 Oct 2012 04:04 AM PDT

The folks of Onliner.by managed to score the much rumored LG Google Nexus aka the LG E960, that they took for a professional photo shooting in their studio. These are the first official looking shots of the device and sadly they confirm the news regarding the 8 GB of internal stroage.

Also known as the Mako or LG Optimus Nexus, the handset has a nice texture at the back, a discretely integrated back camera (8 megapixel) and a slightly curved upper and lower edge. The speaker at the back is pretty big and at the bottom we have a microUSB port. This model runs Android 4.1.2 right now, but the finalized version will run Android 4.2. As previously leaked, this handset uses a 4 core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with a 1.5 GHz frequency and 2 GB of RAM.

LG E960 has an 8 megapixel camera, not the 13 MP shooter of its relative, the LG Optimus G. The screen here is a 4.7 incher with a resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels. The screen also shows virtual Android buttons, taking up some of that resoluton. This design is pretty similar to the one of the Galaxy Nexus and it’s safe to say that the existence of this LG phone is now 100% confirmed.  There’s also a bonus shot below, with the LG Optimus Nexus compared to the iPhone.

Alcatel Windows Phone 7.8 Handset Spotted, Pictured and Specced

Posted: 11 Oct 2012 02:48 AM PDT

Of all the companies that were expected to join the Windows Phone ecosystem, Alcatel was the less likely to actually turn up. Even Sony is more likely to do that… but still Alcatel is apparently already testing a WP device, one that has leaked on the web and it’s pictured below.

We’re dealing with a low to mid end device, probably a product that will get the One Touch branding and it’s supposed to come with Windows Phone 7.5 and be upgradable to WP 7.8. As far as specs go, we’ve heard that it will feature a Qualcomm single core MSM7227A chipset at 1 GHz, 512 MB of RAM, a 4 inch display, a 5 megapixel camera at the back and a VGA front shooter. Add to that a 1500 mAh battery and you’ve got the full picture.

4 GB of storage are included, reminding me of another lower end WP device, made by Acer or ZTE. We’ve even got the measurements of the Alcatel Windows Phone, that will be 10.75 mm thick, apparently. Russia is the source of the link and one of the launch countries, for a price tag of about $256, if the leak is true. Would you buy this over a lower end Nokia Lumia?

LG Nexus 4 Spotted in Carphone Warehouse Inventory; Available in Black and White

Posted: 11 Oct 2012 01:02 AM PDT

There has been a lot of talking about the upcoming Google Nexus Phone, with LG being the device maker this time, or at least one of the makers. The so called LG Optimus Nexus has yet to find an official name, but we may have just found it, through a leak from the Carphone Warehouse system.

As you know, Carphone Warehouse is the biggest independent mobile phone retailer in Europe and it’s based in UK, so that’s why this is so important. The big retailer lists a model called LG Nexus 4, in both black and white versions. It would make sense for this model to be called LG Nexus 4, since it’s the fourth Nexus phone after all. Once again, this is not the final naming of the device, so it could change by the time it hits carriers or the market, but it’s good to have something to work with here.

Over the past days this LG phone has been the subject of a huge amount of leaks, including pictures, specs and whatnot. It’s supposed to run Android 4.2 on top of a quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, with 2 GB of RAM on board as well, 8 megapixel camera and the strange inclusion of merely 8 GB of storage, while lacking a microSD card slot. I hope the last part is not real, since it would be a huge bummer.
