Video: Cyan Nokia Lumia 920 hands on. Posted: 05 Oct 2012 05:34 PM PDT
This is a video hands on of the cyan Nokia Lumia 920. As well as being a lot of fan’s favourite colour, check out the portion where they demo PureView shaking. We’ve seen this before – the bit where they shake the camera, press shutter to activate PureView and the viewfinder is smooth. A complaint a few of you have had was to show the clip filmed during the exaggerated shaking. I’m not sure if it was the cuts but Mark seemed impressed. We are told apparently that the clip played back here was during the shaking (and not during slow panning). by thenokiablog from TNB |
Ilari Nurmi, head of Product Marketing at Nokia leaves Posted: 05 Oct 2012 05:27 PM PDT
Reuters reports that Ilari Nurmi, previously head of Eseries and later head of product marketing at Nokia, has left the company.
Seems people in marketing keep leaving Nokia. Not that it makes me surprised because the last thing Nokia understands is marketing. Well, marketing and execution. Sometimes, I wonder if they ever bother to sit down and realise that their marketing is just not good enough. It is ineffective, inconsistent, incoherent. Money goes straight into the land of lost opportunities where Nokia and marketing is concerned. They could do better if they gave some pens and paper to the elephants at the zoo. Do they raise awareness in the appropriate way? Do they give a concise, clear message? Does it allow the consumer to understand and desire your product? If you find something that works, can you do it again or will you try some odd crap that doesn’t work 100 more times than what did work? Are your adverts mainstream? Do they appeal to the largest audience? Do you understand it’s not simply volume, but efficacy? How’s the brand building going? Do you understand your consumers? What about your fans? What makes them fans? What made some leave? What made some come back? Will you have an effective keynote that delivers why your product is so great so your awesomeness is spread verbatim, or will you ramble on about silly things like changing tile sizes and happily gloss over ground breaking pieces of innovation like you were telling your dog about how much you enjoyed butter on your toast? Will you not vet your adverts to make sure everything is labelled correctly as not to give your haters and doubters something to feast on? Perhaps, when trying to break the north American market, you would not shackle yourself to one carrier that cares less about you and more about how many iThings they sell? Do you have someone at Nokia that can step out of your bubble, take a look at your marketing efforts and tell you honestly when things are crap or just simply not good enough (Because 70% of the time, that’s the case). I guess it’s a little difficult to judge your Nokia Lumia 920 marketing efforts, since, you know, it’s not on sale. Cheers DKM for the tip. |
Video: Lumia 920 PolyCarbonate Body Scratch Test (Vs. N9) Posted: 05 Oct 2012 09:46 AM PDT Earlier this week I wrote a post about my issues regarding glossy phones, and why I probably wasn’t going to be getting a glossy 920, after which I was kindly reminded that I already had a Lumia 920 body, so why not do a scratch test? I decided to compare the glossy yellow polycarbonate body of the 920 vs. the Matte Black finish of the N9: (apologies for the lack of proper focus but the 808 has some serious issues focusing on the reflective gloss, especially since there is no proper contrast)- Be sure to watch in HD, you can’t see much on Standard Definition. It’s worth noting that the yellow color hides the scratches better than the glossy white, also the phone was hardly scratched when rubbed on the wooden surface of the desk, most of the damage came from the coins. *After testing it the scratches on the Yellow 920 seem alot less of a issue than they did on the stromtrooper; or maybe I’m just falling for the color regardless of the issues with it. TV Spotlight: Lumia 800 Pops-Up Again for the 2nd Week in a Row in Elementary Posted: 05 Oct 2012 06:53 AM PDT Exactly one week after the Lumia 800s cameo in Sherlock Holmes “Elementary” debut it’s back again in episode 2, this time with a bit less screen time showing up for a second or two around the 38-39 minute mark. Seeing how the phone was barely visible (anyone who wasn’t an avid Nokia fan/user probably would have missed it) I can only guess that the phone was a natural selection issue, rather than a planted/paid advert, that’s good right? |
Glamour Shot: Lumia 800, 900 and 920 Stacked Up Posted: 05 Oct 2012 03:27 AM PDT Just thought the photo above was worth a share,
And honestly I couldn’t agree more, those 3 colors are GORGEOUS! I’m ashamed to admit that I forgot there was a White Lumia 800, maybe cause it came out later than the rest? Still this isn’t making the great color conundrum any easier, but I’m about to do a scratch test on my Lumia 920 teaser kit, if the body survives than yellow it is, if not then it’s down to Cyan or Black. Have you decided yet? |
Nokia Store updated on Nokia N8 Belle Refresh? v3.30.18 Posted: 05 Oct 2012 01:02 AM PDT According to tipper, Greggers, Nokia Store on his Nokia N8 got updated to v3.30.18 from v3.30.14. It was prompted on his Nokia N8 with Nokia Belle Refresh. It’s apparently more responsive:

Nokia Lumia 920 at ManiacStore India, 30,990 INR (600USD/370GBP/460EUR) Posted: 05 Oct 2012 12:59 AM PDT The Nokia Lumia 920 appears on ManiacStore, India for Rs 30,990.
I’m not sure how reliable this price would be but that makes it 600USD/370GBP/460EUR if we were looking at direct conversion. This maybe before taxes. Cheers manu for the tip! |

Stephen Elop interviewed at CNET (and CNET asks if you can tell Nokia Lumia from HTC’s absurd KIRF?) Posted: 05 Oct 2012 12:30 AM PDT The blogosphere is getting some time with Stephen Elop and it’s CNET’s turn.
What caught my eye is their question to their readers on whether you could tell the phones apart if the logos weren’t there? Well, to me, they’re obviously lumia designs. Not one thing, such as colour, but the combined combination of curved glass, polycarbonate unibody and bright vivid colours. It’s just a shame that HTC were so arrogant as to call these designs something unique that they’ve made when clearly, they’ve just looked at Lumia and said “it’s easier if we just copy these”. It’s true, isn’t it, HTCrap? Oh well, as long as people recognise the design as Lumia and search for Lumia and not their wannabe KIRF. When asked whether Nokia would pursue legal action against HTC, Stephen Elop says:
CNET asks whether there is any truth to the rumours about not carrying on with the dividend in order for Nokia to keep a healthy cash balance – this is asked on two occasions:

Cyan Nokia Lumia 920 matte hands on! (Someone get this to Jessica Alba!) Posted: 05 Oct 2012 12:17 AM PDT It was not one of the officially launched colours but it was much expected, given the popularity of the previous Cyan Nokias. Jessica Alba was recently spotted with a Cyan Nokia Lumia. It appeared in various official Nokia videos, sneaking in to confirm its existence. The Verge have some hands on pics on this AT&T exclusive.
BTW, is it me or does it look Matte and not gloss (matte is so much more durable!) Yellow doesn’t look all that shiny either, but it might just be the angle. It’s so very pretty . Quite hard to blame HTC for trying to cash in on this vibrant lumianess, they are so very attractive. Cheers Viipottaja for the tip! |
