LG Optimus G Product Trailer is Complex, Has Dancers and Martial Arts in It (Video) Posted: 13 Oct 2012 10:47 AM PDT LG really went all out to promote its latest flagship phone, the Optimus G, that was announced recently and it’s seen as a step brother of the LG Nexus 4, since they share many of the specs. LG Optimus G has a promo video that you can watch below, in all its splendor, with martial arts, dancing and cool 3D effects, that initially revolve around a cube of sorts. The handset comes with unique features like QSlide and the camera’s Live Shot and Time Catch Shot functions. Archery is also found in the video and lots of metaphors that highlight performance and other unique aspects of the smartphone. We are dealing with one of the most powerful handsets on the market after all. Optimus G features a quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 4.7 inch 1280 x 768 IPS display and a 13 megapixel camera that I’m sure it rocks. All of that is crammed inside an 8.45 mm thin handset, that has 32 GB of internal storage and LTE support, as well as NFC. Inside there’s a 2100 mAh battery and the OS of choice is Android 4.0 for now. Who’s getting the LG Optimus G and who’s holding out for the LG Nexus 4? Related posts: |
LG Nexus 4 Review Already Out, Courtesy of Russian Source; Prototype Only! Posted: 13 Oct 2012 10:31 AM PDT The folks of tech.onliner.by have managed to score a LG Nexus 4 prototype for testing purposes and they already published some pictures of the device and now it’s time for a premiere review. They analyzed each and every aspect of the product, in prototype phase for now. Apparently, they were not that impressed by the end result, although the camera was decent. Also known as LG E960, Mako or LG Optimus Nexus, the phone is expected to debut at the end of the current month and the underwhelming thing about is that it only has 8 GB of storage and no microSD card slot. It has quite a bunch of the features of the LG Optimus G and a pretty unique design, that seems to involve a glossy back plate and a discretely integrated 8 MP camera instead of the 13 MP one of the Optimus G. Since this is a prototype, it did have a lot of bugs and problems, like often soft resets, losing WiFi networks and not being able to connect to computers. When viewed from the front, the new Nexus is pretty similar to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, especially since it has an upper and lower end curve and lacks capacitive buttons, replacing them with virtual buttons at the lower end of the screen. The device adopts a straight and not curved glass for the screen and the front camera is very discretely placed in the upper right corner. LG Nexus 4 measures 9.2 mm in thickness, weighs 139 grams and it’s 1.5 mm shorter than the Galaxy Nexus. The display has a 4.7 inch display, supports a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and uses an IPS panel. The image is described as very sharp, with good contrast and brightness, even when compared to the iPhone 5. You can find the full review here, with photo samples, conclusions and all, but when all’s said and done the product is a tad disappointing. Related posts: |
LG (Optimus) Nexus 4 Gets Approved by FFC Feraturing Wireless Charging Posted: 13 Oct 2012 03:23 AM PDT LG has apparently been chosen to make the next Nexus device for Google. The upcoming smartphone will feature the same aspects of the hardware configuration from LG’s flagship device , the Optimus G. Rumors talk about Google rethinking their policy for the carrier branded version of their Nexus smarthone and opting not to launch a Verizon version of the handset, due to the carrier’s slow update policy. Upon getting it’s FFC certification, some very interesting aspects were revealed about the LG Nexus smartphone. For one, the device (model number LG-E960) got approval for GSM bands 850 and 1900, WCDMA bands II, IV and V, dual-band WiFi (2.4GHz and 5GHz bands), Bluetooth and NFC. This meand that, among others, the device will be available for AT&T in the United States. The WCDMA band IV support also means that the device could be available for T-Mobile also in the US. Another aspect worth noting is that the new device was tested with an inductive charger – model number WCP-700. It is safe to assume that the LG Nexus supports wireless charging technology. There is also info to suggest that the feature will be supported out of the box, without the need for purchasing additional equipment. Let us remind you that the quad-core smartphone is due to be announced at the end of the month or beginning of next month. It will have a 4.7-inch display and run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Posted: 13 Oct 2012 02:18 AM PDT T-Mobile recently leaked its roadmap for the following months, also revealing plans to debut the LG Optimus L9 in the near future. The L9 is said to debut on October 31st on T-Mobile, so you only have to wait about 2 weeks to get your hands on the device. The leak also lists the Galaxy S II Color Refresh in the same roadmap, coming on October 29th. T-Mobile is also preparing the Huawei Summit device for an October 31st release and this seems to be a brand new release from the Chinese phone maker. Another device in the list is Samsung Toba, that nobody actually knows. It could be a new tablet or new phone, but this is where the info stops. It could also be a codename for Galaxy Note II, but we’ll find out what it really is on November 7th, when it debuts on the same magenta carrier. For those of you who don’t know, the LG Optimus L9 is a stylish midrange phone with a 4.5 inch qHD display, 2150 mAh battery and a 1 GHz dual core TI OMAP 4430 processor, as well as 1 GB of RAM. There’s a 5 megapixel camera on board, 4 GB of storage and support for T-Mobile HSPA+ radios. Related posts: |
4.9 inch Sharp Aquos Phone Zeta SH-02E Premiers Low Power IGZO Display Posted: 13 Oct 2012 12:49 AM PDT Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo just unveiled yet another model from its winter lineup, a phone called Sharp Aquos Phone Zeta SH-02E. This device is the first production handset with an IGZO display. I’m talking about the indium gallium zinc oxide technology, that promises higher translucency compared to the standard LCDs. This reduces the demand for backlightning and means that there’s less battery drain. Aside from its brand new 4.9 inch 1280 x 720 pixel display, the SH-02E has a pretty nice specs sheet, that includes a 16 megapixel camera, a 1.5 GHz quad core Snapdragon S4 processor and Adreno 320 graphics, as well as NFC and NTT DoCoMo LTE compatibility. The only downside here is that the handset comes with Android 4.0 ICS, instead of Jelly Bean, but I supposed it will get JB fast. The indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) is a semiconducting material, that can be used as a channel for a transparent thin film transistor. LCD screens used amorphous silicon, that has been replaced by IGZO, due to the advantage of its higher electron mobility and smaller pixels, plus higher reaction speed for the screen. Zune HD2, the OG Windows Phone by Microsoft? Posted: 13 Oct 2012 12:41 AM PDT With all the recent talks about a Microsoft Surface phone, we tend to forget that there might have actually been such a phone already, in the past. And no, I’m not talking about the Kin phones here. It appears that at some point Microsoft, or better said one of its design firm partners came up with a design for a Zune phone, the Zune HD2. Microsoft’s Zune media players were ignored by the public, being seen as lesser iPods at the time of their debut. Zune HD was the last of them and it apparently had a phone version ready for debut, one that looked like the device above. The image is created by Greg McNamara and was done for Astro Studios. Astro is the firm that designed the first Zune HD and these are merely sketches or what might have been the very first Windows Phone. Zune HD2 doesn’t look half bad in this case, in spite of being pretty bulky. It does have a sci-fi allure about it and that front lower side speaker is fantastic, if you ask me. However, I’m not sure how user-friendly the trapeze shape of the device is… Anyway, one can only dream that this will happen one day, since the Zune is dead. Related posts: |
