Draw Something pulled from Marketplace Posted: 27 Oct 2012 08:37 PM PDT Ali posted that the “once popular” Draw Something had finally made it to WP. He, along with myself and every other WP user that downloaded the application, faced a network bug. The app stated you had no network connection, even if you did. It seems the poor reviews and backlash on Twitter made its way back to the devs. They have since pulled the app from Marketplace, whilst they “are on it”. |
Nokia Lumia 920 Pre-Order for AUD$699 at Harvey Norman Posted: 27 Oct 2012 08:28 PM PDT
Got tipped in by MJ that he visited a Harvey Norman store here in Australia, and whilst there, he asked around about a few things, namely WP8 and the Lumia 920. Apparently, the sales assistant checked the computer and found out that there is a listing in their system for the Lumia 920 pre-order. The pre-order listing doesn’t have colour options or regular pricing, but mentions a pre-order sale price of $699. Reportedly, the assistant was able to take a deposit, so hopefully it means we will see the listing go public soon. Cheers MJ for the tip!

Posted: 27 Oct 2012 06:07 PM PDT Another week, another Nokia spotted on TV. This time, it is from Gossip Girl. We have seen the show have Nokia devices before, namely the N8. It has been the second week in a row, used by the same character. I have a feeling it will remain all season. Sidenote: Having US shows that target a specific demographic featuring a Nokia, is good for the brand’s image. A lot of people see their favourite characters have something, and then see it in a store and want it. If Nokia can keep this up, we may see just as many Nokia’s on TV as iPhone. Michael |
Twabbit (Windows Phone Twitter Client) Free on WP MarketPlace for a Limited Time Posted: 27 Oct 2012 07:26 AM PDT Twabbit is quite possibly THE greatest Windows Phone twitter client out there, free or paid; we covered it before in a LumiAppADay:

Nokia No Longer In Top 5 SmartPhone Manufacturers Posted: 27 Oct 2012 04:44 AM PDT It was less than a year ago that Samsung outsold Nokia and became the world’s largest MOBILE PHONE (Not only smartphone) manufacturer; after which Nokia slowly started sliding further and further down the line. as of this week Nokia are no longer part of the top 5 Smartphone manufacturers (but are still 2nd place to Samsung in total phone sales). Ironically Nokia was replaced in the top 5 by the only other Smartphone company who is possibly in as bad a position as they are, RIM. Analysts pin Nokia’s loss on the rise of ZTE and Huawei which have both been eating into their share of the Chinese market. As of this quarter the top 5 are:

Draw Something Now Available for Windows Phone- Lumia Exclusive Posted: 27 Oct 2012 04:28 AM PDT The once super popular time wasting game “Draw Something by Zynga & OMGPOP has now officially landed in the Nokia Exclusive branch of the WP Marketplace. The game for those who don’t no it is simply pictionary on a phone. Draw Something is a Lumia exclusive game for two months after launch, after which it Should be available on all other Windows Phone devices. Unfortunately the game doesn’t seem to be working for me as I keep getting a “network error” where the game fails to detect my internet connection. Download the game here: http://windowsphone.com/s?appid=15845be2-e88c-4c29-8234-7b22a12e4616 or scan the Qr code below: |
Weekend Watch: WP7.8 on Nokia Lumia 710? Posted: 27 Oct 2012 12:16 AM PDT We’ve seen a video in the past of a hacked ROM supposedly bringing WP7.8 or at least the homescreen for it on the Nokia Lumia 710. This 710 in the video below appears to be from a retail shop (as indicated by the security lock you might find in stores). Note edge to edge resizable tiles that’s coming to both WP8 and WP7.8.

Weekend Watch: PureView v2 OIS from Nokia Lumia 920 vs Shakey iPhone 5, SGSIII + Night samples Posted: 27 Oct 2012 12:12 AM PDT
The difference is startling.
Check out the intentional shakes introduces, which causes heavy blurring in the SGSIII. The fact that there is NO hardware stabilisation (only built in) on such a small device astonishes me how much stabilising PureView v2 floating lens actually provides.
Against the OneX, it is the absolute worst. I’m amazed at how much this is marketed in shops as being excellent for photos and videos.
For this one, I’m not sure if it’s on a tripod as the panning seems to level and smooth. It appears to have some trouble at the end locking focus as it’s so dark.
