Samsung Galaxy Nexus II Confirmed to Sport an 8 Megapixel Camera by Leaked Picture

Posted: 08 Oct 2012 10:38 AM PDT

The folks of AllAboutSamsung, a German blog handling Samsung related topics have come across a picture taken with what looks like the next Galaxy Nexus phone. Codenamed GT-I9260, the device will sport an 8 megapixel camera, a fact discovered through the details of the leaked pic published on Picasa. It was all in the EXIF data folks!

The leaked picture also contained hints about the firmware, that seems to be I9260XXALJ1, as posted by Samsung and the resolution is 2448 x 3264. There were rumors about a Galaxy Nexus II months ago and they appear to be coming true, but don’t expect any major upgrades here. The camera will be the primary upgrade, jumping from 5 to 8 megapixels and we also get a microSD card slot, unlike the first Galaxy Nexus, that didn’t have one. Other specs include a 1.5 GHz dual core CPU and a 4.65 inch Super AMOLED HD screen.

Samsung is supposedly preparing to ship the device starting this December and make it reach the retailers around that time. This is as much an upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus as the HTC One X+ is to the original model, if you allow me to exaggerate a bit. The improved camera may be a big deal to some, but frankly speaking the first Galaxy Nexus had quite a decent camera, if you ask me.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Leaked for International HTC One X

Posted: 08 Oct 2012 01:46 AM PDT

Although one would think that HTC may delay the debut of Jelly Bean on HTC One X in order to make the One X+ more appealing, there’s now a leak of the software that may help you get your One X up to speed. It appears that the JB update for the international HTC One X has hit the web.

The international One X is the one with a quad core Tegra 3 CPU and it only runs Android 4.0.4 at best, at the moment. HTC One X+ was announced last week and it comes with preinstalled Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean and a slight CPU bump. This doesn’t mean that One X and One S users have been forgotten, since they were promised to receive Jelly Bean ASAP.

The leaked ROM we’re talking about here is based on Android 4.1.1 and Sense 4+. In order for the ROM to function your device must belong to a CID code group from the following list:

HTC__001, cidnum: HTC__E11, cidnum: HTC__203, cidnum: HTC__102, cidnum: HTC__405, cidnum: HTC__Y13, cidnum: HTC__A07, cidnum: HTC__304, cidnum: HTC__M27, cidnum: HTC__032, cidnum: HTC__016 and cidnum: HTC__J15.

If your HTC One X is on the list, you need to get to the source link below and follow the instructions to install the update. It already managed to score a crazy 7031 points in Quadrant, as shown above, while AntuTu reached 12.924.

Motorola Kills Webtop Because of Poor Adoption

Posted: 08 Oct 2012 01:18 AM PDT

Remember the Webtop project from Motorola? Showcased at CES 2011 and having the Atrix phone at its center, this concept involved uniting a smartphone with a laptop and TV set, all of them running on the WebTop platform. And now Motorola has cancelled it…

The idea was to have the Motorola Atrix 4G and the likes connecting to a supported accessory, such as the Laptop Dock or the HD multimedia dock and launch it in an environment based on Ubuntu, one that synced up with the handset. This was seen as one of the biggest innovations at CES last year. Rumors about this canning came weeks ago, but now Motorola officially stated that it was killing the project.

They also said that Webtop helps the user expand the smartphone experience to larger screens. The problem is that the adoption rate was too low to make this product viable. The prices have gone down a lot for it, but that’s not going to be any good, if WebTop doesn’t get anymore support and upgrades. So we can add one more product to the list of cancelled promising projects, after MeeGo, WebOs and a few more names. Maybe Google will use the expertise to come up with Android 5.0, that’s rumored to run on notebooks and integrated Chrome OS features.

Motorola Occam and Manta Leaked in Benchmarks, Runing Android 4.2

Posted: 08 Oct 2012 12:58 AM PDT

There have been a lot of rumors lately, regarding the next iteration of Android, that some say could be version 4.2. We have no idea if this OS will end up being Key Lime Pie or not, but what we do know is that two Android 4.2 devices from Motorola have leaked in benchmarks.

I’m talking about Motorola Occam and Manta, two names shown in the screenshots above. The name Occam makes us think about Occam’s Razor, so we’re dealing with a RAZR smartphone here probably, now listed in the AnTuTu benchmark database of tested devices. It gets an overall score of 9817 and we spotted a CPU frequency of 1512 MHz. Speculations say that it could be using a quad core CPU, or maybe a dual core CPU of the Snapdragon S4 kind, but with a boost from Android 4.2.

Manta is supposed to be a Motorola tablet, short for Manta-ray and related to Wingray and Stingray, codenames applied for older Xoom versions. This one is a slate with Android 4.2 on board and an AnTuTu score of 8077, that’s using a 1.7 GHz processor. So, should we be waiting two new Nexus devices from Motorola, one from LG and some other ones from HTC (a phablet) and Samsung? That’s what rumors seem to indicate…
