Posted: 24 Oct 2012 01:23 PM PDT Snapdragon S4 Pro seems to be hugely popular on modern handsets like PadFone 2, LG Optimus G and HTC J Butterfly, but is it really the most potent CPU out there? In short, yes… but let’s see the figures before we decide. The folks of Phone Arena decided to pull off a nifty comparison between the best quad core phone CPUs on the market: Snapdragon S4 Pro, Tegra 3, Exynos 4412 and Huawei K3V2. The Snapdragon 4 core model is found on the LG Optimus G here, while the Exynos 4412 is found on the Galaxy S III, the Huawei K3V2 is present on the Huawei Ascend D Quad XL and the Tegra 3 on the LG Optimus 4X HD. The comparison would have nicer if it had included the overclocked 1.6 GHz Exynos 4412 of the Galaxy Note II or the 1.7 GHz Tegra 3+ from the HTC One X+, but this face-off is just as good. So, in Quadrant, the first benchmark we find the LG Optimus G and Snapdragon S4 Pro winning the battle, with 7299 points. Next up is the Galaxy S III with 5315 points and then the LG Optimus 4X with 4821 points. Finally the Huawei model and its in house made CPU score 4413 points. In AnTutu, the scores are surprising, with the Galaxy S III being the best at 12k, followed by the LG Optimus 4X HD with 11k points and 10.896 for the LG Optimus G, while the Huawei unit is close by with 10.716 points. In GL Benchmark and Vellamo LG Optimus G and the quad core Snapdragon also win, showing us that at least in these synthetic tests are the newest Qualcomm chipset is the winner. Samsung and LG May Release 1080p Display Phones in the First Half of 2013 Posted: 24 Oct 2012 11:16 AM PDT With HTC’s announcement of a 1080p phone last week, that floodgates were open and I expect many more device makers to follow their example. Right now we’ve got Oppo and HTC with 1080p 5 inch devices and Pantech is also preparing one, but it appears that LG and Samsung may release their own Full HD handsets early next year. LG has already shown a 5 inch prototype and HTC proposes the J Butterfly model, a 5 inch 1080p phablet/phone. Samsung Display and LG Display are probably hard at work to come up with rivaling technologies to rule in 2013. Sammy may stick to AMOLED, while LG will rely on its LCD prototype and HTC is all about its new SLCD3. I can’t really tell if Samsung will decide to keep the 1080p panel for the Galaxy S IV or launch a fresh model in early 2013, at MWC or CES. Some may have expected the Galaxy Note II to debut such a screen, but instead it stuck with 720p, not even 1280 x 800 like the Galaxy Note 1. So, is LG going to announce a first Full HD phone yet again, since they also announced the first quad core and dual core phone? Or will Samsung beat them to it? I’m talking about an international device here, so HTC’s Butterfly doesn’t count… Related posts: |
LG Nexus 4 Appears Again in Some Rendered Images Posted: 24 Oct 2012 08:51 AM PDT Few days from now, on the 29th of this month to be exact, Google will be holding an event where we are likely to see the announcement of the next Nexus smartphone. According to the leaks on the Internet, way before Google announced they will be holding an event, the new device will be made by LG and called the LG Nexus 4. It has been even confirmed by an LG representative that Google will indeed reveal the Nexus 4 at their event this month. The device’s hardware configuration is the same to that of the current flagship model of the Korean manufacturer – the LG Optimus G. The Nexus 4 features design similarities to the Galaxy Nexus smartphone made by Samsung. A while back a forum user managed to get his hand on the upcomming device and posted a bunch of photos with it including complete hardware details. This time is EVLeaks – source for rumors and upcoming devices photos - that shows us what seems to be a press shot of the LG Nexus 4. The design of the device is exactly the same to what we’ve seen on the Internet for the past few weeks. It has the same rounded shape and on-screen soft buttons characteristic for the Nexus devices. The image shows the Nexus 4 running Google Now with some cards for navigation and sports team score results. The back of the device is supposedly made out of very tough plastic and there is the 8MP camera with flash on the top. What more does the image say? Well nothing we didn’t already know from the rumors that have been fludding the Internet lately. We expect the device’s unveiling this Monday along with another rumored device – the Nexus 10 tablet made by Samsung. Related posts: |
BlackBerry 10 Leaked Slides Reveal Toast Notifications, Cool Preview Mode Posted: 24 Oct 2012 03:26 AM PDT BlackBerry 10 will be the OS that will make or break RIM’s future and it’s been revealing its true self by bits and pieces over the past months. Today we catch a glimpse into its notification system, based on the concept of “toast”. This is codename for simple notifications in a small pop-up, but this time we get a new idea, called Cinnamon Toast and French Toast. With Cinnamon Toast RIM has a nifty way of handling an incoming message: when it arrives the user is alerted and then once he picks the phone up and tilts it, the message reveals itself bit by bit, in a preview mode. When an angle of 45 degrees is reached, the whole message preview is shown and the revealing feature is a continuous and reversible one, so once the user has seen enough, he can place the BlackBerry back on the table and the message will disappear in the same way it appeared. The French Toast concept involves the accidental deletion of a message. This feature doesn’t require you to confirm deletion, instead allows you to undo the delete through an alert that stays on the screen for about 3 seconds and then disappears when you do something else. The notification can be placed wherever on the screen. It seems that gestures are a big deal in BB 10 OS, but we already knew that. This platform is starting to sound better and better by the day.
