Here’s the Full Apple iPhone 5 Launch Event: 2 Hours of Fun! Posted: 13 Sep 2012 01:30 PM PDT Apple just posted on its website the full keynote of the iPhone 5 debut, available right here. We already posted a rundown of the event yesterday and now you get to see for yourselves what you missed. It all started with Tim Cook stepping on stage to detail the usual numbers and then about 20 minutes into the event the iPhone 5 madness began. They detailed the specs, gave a demo of an EA racing game on it and also showed some pics taken with the 8 megapixel camera. They showed a video of Jonathan Ive talking about the design and Ive himself was present at the event, together with Phil Schiller, who was also on stage. Cook and co detailed Apple Maps and the new social features of the Photo Stream, as well as the new abilities Siri has, including voice posting on Facebook. And then came the other new products: the colourful new iPod Nano and iPod Touch, plus the innovative EarPods earbuds. Those 3 products were not that impressive, but what was impressive and unexpected was the appearance of Foo Fighters on stage at the end of the event. They held a mini concert, with 3 songs they sang, some of them with changed lyrics, as they integrated Siri and Apple Maps into the tunes. We also learned that the iPhone 3GS was phased out and the iPhone 4 was free on contract now. iPhone 5 ships on September 21st, orders start on September 14th. It’s a 4 inch smartphone with a dual core Apple A6 CPU. For more details you have the full keynote! Related posts: |
Posted: 13 Sep 2012 06:26 AM PDT We previously knew that Samsung was supposed to announce or start offering Galaxy S III Jelly Bean updates at the end of August, but that didn’t come through. Now we’re supposed to wait till October, according to a Samsung Denmark leak. It also appears that Galaxy S II will get its share of software update in November. Keep in mind that October is only the month when the S III JB update starts rolling out, so it could reach November if it’s slow. They also list some Bada OS updates in the tablet above and a surprise: Galaxy Ace 2 and Galaxy S Advance will get Jelly Bean! Meanwhile you should know that UK carrier EE UK will launch the Samsung Galaxy S III with Android 4.1 preinstalled, although I have no idea when that will happen. It’s important to note that both the Galaxy Ace 2 and Galaxy S Advance are running Android 2.3 Gingerbread now and they will skip straight to Jelly Bean according to Samsung Bulgaria. Pretty strange, right? We’ll see how this pans out in the second and the third month of autumn, coming soon! Related posts: |
Motorola XT890 Hits the FCC May be a RAZR M With Intel 2 GHz CPU Posted: 13 Sep 2012 06:06 AM PDT After last week’s Motorola event, the US company is now preparing for yet another press conference, this time one hosted together with Intel. Odds are that we’ll see a new smartphone or two, with the Intel CPU inside. Although we have no idea what to expect, one of the newcomers could be the Motorola XT890, that was just approved by the FCC. The handset is rumored to be a global version of the RAZR M with a 2 GHz CPU and 897 x 540 screen resolution. If Samsung Galaxy S III can have both an Exynos quad and Snapdragon S4 version, why can’t the RAZR diversify the choice? No idea if the Moto XT890 supports LTE, but the FCC says it has AT&T-friendly 2G and 3G radio. Dual band WiFi is also mentioned, but no trace of NFC sadly. I wonder how the benchmarks will look like when you compare a handset with the Intel Medfield 2 GHz CPU on board with the same handset with dual core Snapdragon S4 on board… I’m talking here about the RAZR M obviously, provided that it is in fact the Motorola XT890 handset. I expect some of the specs to be kept, like the edge to edge screen, 8 GB of storage, a microSD card slot, 1 GB of RAM, Android 4.0 or even Jelly Bean and an 8 megapixel camera. We’ll learn more next week, on September 18th. Related posts: |

iPhone 5 is Now Official. How Does Fit in With Current Market Demands? Posted: 13 Sep 2012 12:20 AM PDT Rumors about Apple’s new device have been spread on the Internet a long time before the official announcement. For the first time in recent history, it looks like most of the leaked info and images were accurate. Apple launched today the new iPhone 5 and with it it wants to take the top spot in the smartphone market. Does the new product manage to appeal to current Apple devices users as well as to attract new customers? Most tech fans will agree: most of the features introduced with the new iPhone have been available on other platforms, some even for quite some time. A strong marketing campaign can only do so much. How does the new device appeal to the fans of the brand? Well, for them I think it’s safe to assume, they are satisfied with what the iPhone 5 brings. An improved design, faster chipset, improved camera, bigger screen and new network connectivity features, it’s all really what everyone demanded. For other platform users, especially Android, the new device may seem unappealing, in a world where quad-core is becoming the new standard and screen sizes surpassed 5-inches. More so, Apple made some statements that seem far fetched at best, like the fact that they now hold the crown for the world’s thinnest smartphone. The new iPhone has a 4-inch screen, 16-9 aspect ratio, boasting a higher resolution (640 x 1136 pixels) that still doesn’t reach the HD standard introduced with the Android powered Galaxy Nexus (720 x 1280 pixels). The software has been updated to take advantage of the new screen size. Meanwhile, developers will have to start working on updating their apps to support the new device, else you’re going to get black borders on each size with incompatible apps. The iPhone 5 is powered by the new A6 chip, over 2X faster then the previous generation. We’ll see how it fares against the Exynos 4412 Quad in smartphones like the Galaxy SIII when the time comes. iPhone 5 includes new connectivity options, like LTEand “Ultrafast wireless technology”. It’s something Android users have grown accustomed with, while iOS users can finally rest easy that they will get a chance to taste the 4G speeds. In terms of design, the new iPhone was crafted using precision engineering and now has a metal back, much more resistant then the glass in the previous generation. Here, on other platforms, we find the Android powered HTC One X, or the newly announced Nokia Lumia smartphones. They too have exquisite designs, with high quality materials. iOS 6 is the new Apple OS that will run on the iPhone 5. It brings “over 200 features” over the previous version, with still as many lacking from what Android has to offer. Still, the iOS platform has become more robust and independent, with Apple renouncing some services like Google Maps, in favor of their own. The iPhone 5 camera has also been improved, something we must judge when some sample comparison shots will surface. The panorama mode introduced in the new iShot camera is something that’s become a standard on most other platforms these days. Why would you buy the iPhone 5? While other devices on different platforms manage to overcome the iPhone 5 in some key areas, the new Apple device manages to keep a high standard, combining all the best features into one design. Sure, the OS is still lacking some basic features we find in other OS’s, and the price of the iPhone 5 is still high, but it will still become the smartphone of choice for many, due to it’s uniqueness. Rather then judging the new iPhone for what it isn’t, let’s take a look at what it is: a new opportunity. Related posts: |
