Video: iPhone 5 vs Nokia Lumia 920

Posted: 16 Sep 2012 02:41 PM PDT

Here’s T3 comparing the new iPhone 5 against the new Nokia Lumia 920. It’s quite funny because iPhone’s supposed killer features is ‘Panorama’ and ‘lightning connector’.

I love how the screen makes no mention of being improved Clear Black Display, Super Sensitive touch, and PureMotion HD+.

In terms of processor, they note down that A6 is 2X faster graphics/processor. 2X faster than what? The previous iPhone?

For extras, NFC and Wireless charging is noted for the Lumia 920, whilst Siri and that lightning connector gets a mention for iPhone.

It’s still not sunk in for me that Nokia’s got some pretty decent specs in their phone. So much potential to win on that ground if only Nokia knew how to market things.

Video: Quick Comparison, Nokia Lumia 920 vs Nokia Lumia 900

Posted: 16 Sep 2012 04:33 AM PDT

Here’s a quick look at the Nokia Lumia 900 against the newer, sleeker, more innovative Nokia Lumia 920.

In the video we are told you can already tell how much sharper and clearer the 920 display is. It’s also really interesting to see the improvements Nokia has done regarding sunlight readability. Check out how the reflections are heavily minimised with the 920 – and the 900 was already crowned for having the best display outdoors.

The small things, like being able to use your finger nail is great (as well as a glove). Apparently it is a very comfortable feel in the hand.

It may be the Camera, the theme colour schemes or because the screen is AMOLED, but  the 900 looks more vivid? In the previous post, V3 noted that the screen on the 920 is superior to the OneX (which some also regard as being better than the SGSIII – also AMOLED).

V3 Nokia Lumia 920 hands on review (vs OneX) Lumia faster, smoother, better screen.

Posted: 16 Sep 2012 04:20 AM PDT

This is not a full on review but V3 have had a bit of time with the Nokia Lumia 920 and have decided to share their experiences.

http://www.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/v3-co-uk-labs-blog/2204694/nokia-lumia-920-handson-review

  • The screen is apparently great, looking much better than the HTC One X. According to Android forums/blogs, One X’s screen is batter than the SGS III’s.
  • Smoother to navigate than HTC One X, faster at loading web pages
  • Didn’t test camera but we know it eats the others already in the preliminary tests.
  • Loving the curved display. Feels more comfortable.

Overall our opening impressions of Nokia’s Lumia 920 are incredibly positive. Even though the device looks incredibly similar to the Lumia 900, even in the short time we had the device, it became increasingly clear that the 920 is a radically different handset, featuring greatly improved tech and software.

The beautiful and talented Priyanka Chopra is seen below launching her debut single featuring Will.i.am. at a Nokia Music Store. Nokia Lumia and Asha are both present as well as prominent Nokia branding.

Nokia were once undisputed in India but have been fighting a hard battle against Samsung. The new Asha may be giving Nokia a helping hand as well as the possibility of new Lumias getting closer to meeting the needs of Indian consumers.

Nokia Lumia 920 has a lithium polymer battery?

Posted: 16 Sep 2012 03:35 AM PDT

The Nokia Lumia 920 sports the largest battery capacity Nokia’s put in a phone, at 2000mAh. Something not mentioned in the specifications is what type of battery. Nokia batteries are almost often lithium-ion. In wikipedia’s own entry, the battery to depict all Li-ion is a Nokia battery.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery

The disadvantages noted for Li-ion are cell life, so over time, the capacity of the battery decreases. e.g. what may get you a minimum of 2 days in your first month might end up with half a day a year or two later. The article above also describes other pros and cons.

Lithium-ion polymer or lithium polymer (LiPo) batteries is described as evolving from Li-ion batteries.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_polymer_battery

It allows batteries to fit in more unusual/slimmer places as well as reducing the aging effect. This is supposedly the type of battery found in the Nokia Lumia 920. If the image is correct, then the Lumia 920 has a 2000mAh LiPo battery.

http://forums.wpcentral.com/lumia-920/197345.htm

The Nokia Lumia 900 also has a LiPo battery, with 1830mAh battery capacity. Only 170 less than the 920 but sporting a smaller 4.3″ screen (vs 4.5). The 3.7″ Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 have Li-ion batteries.

Bigger batteries and battery types aren’t the only things important in battery life. How the phone itself consumers these resources play a huge role too. How big is the screen, what type of screen, how bright, how often does it connect to the internet, what background processes does it run, how efficient the OS is, how fun it is to use therefore you might be using it all the time (or never).

In the Nokia Lumia 920, we’ve been told that there’s been quite a bit of battery saving improvements too to get you over a day’s use.

Cheers anonymous for the tip!
