BlackBerry 10 Preparing an Impressive Number of Apps for OS Launch Posted: 08 Sep 2012 08:44 AM PDT Research in Motion may have been in trouble for the past year or so, lacking a true flagship phone and a decent software platform, but lately we’ve been hearing a lot of good news related to their BB 10 OS. One of them is the fact that the first models with this OS on board will adopt quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro processors and HD display. Now goes out and says that they’ll offer a bit catalog of apps once the OS is out. RIM’s VP of developer relations and ecosystem development told CNET that the company wants to break down the record of available apps at the debut of an OS, first generation that is. There have been multiple BlackBerry Jam developer events this year, ever since the big event in May, so devs are familiar by now with the inner workings of the platform. RIM doesn’t have to do that much to break down the record, since iOS and Android didn’t have a huge number of apps when they launched. Only Windows Phone started off ready, with 7000 apps on day one, so RIM is going after that number. I wouldn’t be surprised to see 10k BB OS 10 apps ready for the launch day of the software. RIM is basically taking on Microsoft one more time, after rumors about the latter buying the former. With BB 10 OS also offering Android app emulation (or close to it), I see the new RIM platform as a big threat to Windows Phone. This is the battle of third place in the mobile OS area, after Android and iOS. Related posts: |
ZTE Warp Sequent Coming to Boost Mobile, Modified Version of ZTE Grand X IN? Posted: 08 Sep 2012 04:53 AM PDT Back at IFA 2012 we saw an Intel CPU-based smartphone from ZTE called Grand X IN and now there’s a slightly modified version of that phone leaked on the web. It appeared on the @evleaks Twitter account and it’s headed to Boost Mobile as the ZTE Warp Sequent. As you can see, the Warp Sequent in the picture above is quite different to the Grand X IN in the picture below, although they’re supposed to be one and the same. For starters the model above has 3 capacitive buttons, not 4 and seems to be running stock Android 4.0 and not a customized version of the software. ZTE Warp, the predecessor of the Warp Sequent had Android 2.3 Gingerbread in vanilla version, so an OS update wouldn’t surprise me. Rumors also say that we should expect a front facing camera placed a bit differently, a 5 megapixel rear cam and a 1.4 GHz processor made by Intel. Evleaks also says that this new model will be available starting September 17th for $200 on Boost Mobile. It’s still possible it’s a mistake and the two handsets are different, but the Twitter account has a good track record, leaking official press pics of the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 ahead of their debut. Yerba Buena Center Gears up for iPhone 5 Launch With Lots of Colours Posted: 08 Sep 2012 03:31 AM PDT As usual, days before the launch of a new iPhone bring us a revamp of the Yerba Buena Center facade, adapted to fit the occasion. Just like this year’s iPad 3 launch, the banners are very colourful and the Apple logo is placed on top of a rainbow-like landscape. Let me remind you that Apple is supposed to launch its new iPhone on September 12th, so next Wednesday in San Francisco, California. Journalists and bloggers from all over the world will fill the Yerba Buena Center and await for Tim Cook’s magical words regarding the new product. The inside of the Center is filled with security, as the preparations and probably rehearsals take place. Apple seems to be expecting a crowd, since lines of velvet rope were prepared and that’s a good idea, considering la creme de la creme of online reporting will be there and try to get a front seat to the debut of yet another iPhone generation. What’s next? Probably some more leaks and extra hype for the device, possibly a hands on video with the phone days before its debut. And then we’ve got the rumored September 21st date of sale in stores, with potential queues taking place in front of AT&T stores and other partners. Will the hysteria be smaller this year considering Samsung Galaxy S III already sold 20 million units and people are happy with it? Related posts: |
HTC 8X is the HTC Accord Official Name, First Windows 8 HTC Phone Confirmed Posted: 08 Sep 2012 02:56 AM PDT HTC has an event scheduled for September 19th and while most people see that as an occasion to debut their new and rumored phablet or tablet, I see it as an opportunity to debut the WP8 trio that has leaked recently. For many months now HTC has been rumored to prepare 3 new handsets with Windows Phone 8 on board: Rio, Zenith and Accord. The latter has recently leaked in a bunch of pictures and now it gets an official branding. XDA Developers member Football claims that the HTC Accord will be officially named HTC 8X and has also posted a picture and some specs to go with this information. The 8X is said to come with a 1.2 GHz dual core processor, as well as a 4.3 inch 720p Super LCD 2 screen and an 8 megapixel camera. There’s also NFC support and a microSD card slot on board, as well as Beats Audio technology for WP8. Aside from this model we also expect the Rio and Zenith handsets, one probably with more modest specs and one possibly with a huge screen like the HTC Titan. The Titan was one of the most appreciated WP7 devices and the Titan II was also pretty well received, although I have to admit I haven’t seen any sales or special offers for the second one. Back to the HTC 8X, this one fits the latest announcements from Samsung and Nokia, both popping up with some dual core HD screen models, that seems to have become standard for Windows Phone 8. LG Optimus G Quad Core Handset Teased in a Fresh Clip (Video) Posted: 08 Sep 2012 02:25 AM PDT IFA 2012 may be done, but LG is not done teasing folks about their upcoming quad core smartphone, the Optimus G. They are dubbing it “The Newest Premium” quad core smartphone and have posted the video shown below on YouTube, quoting the handset’s lack of limits. The new device was teased before, then leaked and then announced by LG and Qualcomm. LG praised this device’s TrueHD IPS panel with a 4.7 inch size and inside we find the Qualcomm new S4 Pro quad core processor and 2GB of RAM. At the back there’s a 13 megapixel camera and the device also gets 4G LTE on some markets. LG and Qualcomm have confirmed the launch of the product in the middle of September, so we can expect the debut soon enough. Qualcomm even said it could come in the States around October and odds that the LG Optimus G will end up in USA as the LG Eclipse 4G LTE on AT&T. They could try to push the handset through multiple carriers under different brandings, like the Galaxy S II and S III. Excited about this quad core powerhouse? Considering the new Xiaomi phone from China has almost the same specs and probably a third of the price, I’m afraid to even imagine how much the Optimus G will cost. Related posts: |
