iPhone 5 Unboxing – Taking Out of the Box the Wonderkid of 2012 Smartphones (Video) Posted: 28 Sep 2012 03:33 PM PDT Announced on September 12th and selling starting with September 21st, the iPhone 5 has finally reached our testing table. We’ve unboxed it for your viewing pleasure and you can watch the resulting video below. The handset is sold in black or white and goes for $200, as the starting price with a 2 year contract. The device is available in 16, 32 and 64 GB of storage and measures 7.6 mm in thickness and weighs 112 grams, 20% than the iPhone 4S. Inside the compact white box we find the handset with two plastic sheets on it (front and back), a bunch of manuals, the nano SIM card tray key, charger, USB/Lightning cable and the EarPods headphones. One thing I noticed from the start is that the iPhone 5 takes a long while to shut down and start up when keeping the On/OFF button pressed. I also noticed that the handset feels great in the hand, it’s extremely light and has very good grip. As you can see it’s bigger than the iPhone 4S, I mean longer with almost 1 centimeter, since it packs a 4 inch display. Said display supports a 640 x 1136 pixel resolution and the panel used here is an IPS LCD with 326 ppi density and 16:9 aspect ratio. Other features include a 1440 mAh battery, a dual core Apple A6 processor, 1 GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera with sapphire glass protection for the lens and a front 1.2 megapixel camera. At the bottom of the phone we have the Lightning port and the moved audio jack that instead of the upper part is now at the bottom. iPhone 5 runs iOS 6.0 and we also showed you a bit of the Apple Maps solution and a bit of the new and upgraded Siri. We’ll be back with more details in a lengthy preview, but for now the device feels and looks stunning. No light bleeding or chipping yet! Related posts: |
Posted: 28 Sep 2012 10:06 AM PDT Who knew that RIM was still able to come up with something original? They’ve just posted a video detailing a bit of the BlackBerry L Series and N Series devices and also a crazy idea, a really good PR stunt. They intend to hand over the first high end smartphone with BlackBerry 10 on board to famous people like Lady Gaga and Ridley Scott and have them create content on the device in a single day. The L Series model is a device we’ve seen before in presentations and demos, once again in a case of sorts, that hides its design. RIM’s idea is simple: the L Series high end BlackBerry goes to Lady Gaga, she writes and records a song using the phone in a single day and then passes it on to J.K. Rowling. The creator of Harry Potter than writes a short story and then the phone reaches Ridley Scott, the creator of Alien, who uses the editing software on the device to create a movie poster and also records a short movie with it. Then the device gets passed on till it reaches normal people, who will get one day with the handset, to do what they want with it and use it for their purposes. In the video we see Twitter, Flickr, Facebook integration and some very cool photo editing effects for the BlackBerry 10 OS. The marketing project will select 10 people from a collection of both famous and no famous areas. This feels like a great initiative and for the first time I see hope for RIM if they make it to the end with the project. Related posts: |

HTC One X+ Appears in O2 UK Brochure, Apparently Comes With 64 GB of Storage, 1.7 GHz Tegra 3 CPU Posted: 28 Sep 2012 04:55 AM PDT We’ve been hearing about the HTC One X+ so often that we feel like we own it already. After numerous leaks in benchmarks, pictures, specs and all that, plus a few pics, today we get a brochure from O2 UK showing the handset. This supposed update of the HTC One X is only expected to bring a better CPU and Android Jelly Bean preinstalled. HTC One X+ features a 1.7 GHz Tegra 3 processor, 64 GB of built in memory and keeps the 8 megapixel camera. It also gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean preinstalled, and an additional 25 GB of DropBox storage is available. The price tag shown here is 479.99 quid on a pay as you go plan when it comes to O2. Frankly speaking, to me this update feels as useless as the one of the HTC Sensation to HTC Sensation XE. What do you get extra? Some red rings on the case, Beats Audio and headphones and some minor tweaks of the device. Did it sell well? Nope, not at all and that’s proved by the fact it disappeared quickly from carriers and retailers, just like the HTC One XL. HTC has to be careful this time, since launching the HTC One X+ too soon and the rumored HTC phablet would cannibalize both their sales. Related posts: |
HTC One S T-Mobile Version Gets Android 4.0.4 With Sense 4.1 Posted: 28 Sep 2012 04:36 AM PDT HTC One S, the T-Mobile version has reached version Android 4.0.4 of its OS, up from Android 4.0.3 and HTC Sense 4.1 from 4.0. The 150 MB download also brings a bunch of changes and bug fixes, that are detailed below. If you still have a One S and you weren’t scared by the chipping case issue, this is what you need to know: The device has some problems solved through the update, stuff like data connection delay, signal fluctuation, WiFi dropping or not connecting, email links that don’t open, loading screens or lag problems and music skips. General connectivity issues have also been corrected. Overall the phone is more stable now, so it’s recommended you actually perform the update ASAP. You should make sure the battery is fully charged before proceeding, to have enough juice for the new software. Although backup is not needed theoretically, you’d better play it safe and have one ready. And hopefully we’re one step closer to the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update through this latest software offering… Did you update? How is it working for you? Related posts: |

iPhone 5 Debuts In 22 More Countries Today Posted: 28 Sep 2012 01:31 AM PDT It’s a good day to be an iPhone fan, since the coveted iPhone 5 debuts today in 22 more countries. It was already available in the first wave on September 21st in the likes of USA, Canada, Australia, France, Germany and Japan, plus UK, but now it reaches more territories. Those include Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands and more. Prices will vary depending on the country and the amount of VAT will be the one to decide it. Spain, Slovenia, Slovakia, Portugal and Switzerland are on the list as well, in case you’re wondering. Before you rush to buy a unit, remember that there’s a Scuff Gate scandal going on, with potential scratches of the black iPhone 5 leading to shiny metal exposure on the sides. Also, the white version is rumored to be leaking light at the top part, so nothing’s perfect these days. Also, the other day some people confirmed a mystery purple hue that their iPhone 5 pictures caught on camera, a potential photo sensor defect. Those are all isolated cases, that Apple didn’t even address, so before we get word that there’s a mass bug going on, you can feel safe to buy an iPhone 5. It offers you a dual core Apple A6 processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 4 inch display with 640 x 1136 pixel resolution, an 8 megapixel camera with sapphire glass protection, the brand new Lightning port and bundled Earpods headphones.
