Stolen Cellphone Database Now Available in USA; FCC and Wireless Carriers Join Forces to Create It Posted: 01 Nov 2012 03:44 PM PDT We all know how easy to steal cellphones are and once it’s snatched you can swap up the SIM card with a new one and this is where the phone identifying stops. Now there’s a way to prevent this problem, with a database of stolen cellphones being created in USA. In April the FCC and wireless carriers were reported to join forces and create a national database for stolen phones. Verizon and Sprint are also supposed to launch their very own databases soon. By the end of November 2013, the big 4 carriers will merge their databases into one, with the smaller carriers also joining in. The point here is to create one big unified system for targeting and blocking stolen handsets. There’s also a project for an international database, that blocks stolen phones that are used overseas. This not only protects consumers by canceling the service, but also dries up the after market for such products. Consumers are encouraged to join this anti theft task force, through simple methods like using PINs or passwords to lock their devices. Also activating remote wiping is advised and specialized security software is also widely available and recommended. Related posts: |
BlackBerry 10 Being Tested by Over 50 Operators Right Now, OS Will Come on Time Posted: 01 Nov 2012 02:03 PM PDT Good news for fans of RIM and BlackBerries: it appears that BB OS 10 will arrive on time and it’s being tested by over 50 carriers right now. That would explain the impressive number of leaks it had recently, since one of the carriers’ employees was bound to take a picture and post it on the web. Anyway, RIM’s shares rose 9% today after the news was out, that it will deliver the OS early next year, as promised. BlackBerry 10 OS has passed a critical milestone in development, so developers have been working hard and achieving success when it comes to this evolution. The new platform truly feels like an evolution, one fit to rival Android and iOS right and maybe claim the third spot, beating Windows Phone to it. BlackBerry 10 will run on a smaller number of devices, so RIM will launch less models, but more flagship-like, with high end features. They will offer a modern web browser and social networking integration. The software will offer users the option of accessing email with a single swipe from any app, basically switching between personal and corporate modes very easily. RIM’s CEO, Heins says that there’s still a lot of work to be done, since developers must be convinced to make apps and also corporate customers must be convinced to make the upgrade. I look forward to seeing that all in one inbox, social interaction and cool predictive keyboard. Related posts: |
Huawei Honor 2 is a New Quad Core Handset With 2 GB of RAM, Priced at $300 (Video) Posted: 01 Nov 2012 12:37 PM PDT Huawei just announced a new quad core handset, one that features top notch specifications, like 2 GB of RAM and 4 core processor. The device is named Huawei Honor 2 and goes for $300, apparently. This is a 4.5 inch handset a HD resolution and it looks like this: Honor 2 packs an 8 megapixel BSI camera and its quad core CPU is an in house Huawei-made K3V2 chipset at 1.4 GHZ. Other features include the above mentioned IPS screen, a battery that promises a very optimistic 72 hours of functioning time and Android 4.0 ICS as the OS. There’s also 8 GB of ROM on board, a microSD card slot and a 1.3 megapixel front camera. The battery inside is a 2230 mAh and seeing that capacity, I doubt it can really reach 72 hours of use. Huawei already unveiled a phone with a quad core processor early this year, at MWC 2012, but the Ascend D Quad failed to reach all countries in due time. Also, it was outperformed by the likes of Tegra 3, Exynos quad and Snapdragon S4 Pro in benchmarks. From the look of it we’re dealing with a pretty bulky smartphone, so it’s not your usual ultraslim handset. Related posts: |
