Allview P4 Duo Unboxing: Affordable Dual Core Dual SIM Smartphone Checked Out (Video) Posted: 25 Nov 2012 09:24 AM PST Allview is a Romanian brand, that already has a bunch of very interesting smartphones in its portofolio. Those include the P5 and P4 models, that we’ve already reviewed here at GSMDome.com. Now the P4 gets a follow-up called Allview P4 Duo. This handset brings as extra a dual core CPU, compared to the single core chipset that the original had. The P4 was the first smartphone with dual SIM and Super AMOLED Plus, at least for this brand. Now the P4 keeps the Super AMOLED Plus, the low screen resolution, the 8MP camera and dual SIM, but it adds a dual core CPU in the mix. The price of the newcomer is $360 and it’s available in black or white. It was launched in October and it runs Android 4.0.4. The handset measures 9.9 mm in thickness, weighs 118.4 grams and features a 4.3 inch display with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution. Inside the box we find the charger, headphones, USB cable, manual, warranty and a screen protector accessory. The handset also brings a custom interface on top of Android 4.0.4, affectionately called Allview Berry UI. We’ll be back in a few days with the full review of this model, if you want more details. Nokia Lumia 510 Caught on Camera Running Windows Phone 7.8 (Video) Posted: 25 Nov 2012 09:09 AM PST Nokia Lumia 510 is a low end Windows Phone model with a pretty design and now it gets some popularity thanks to the fact that the Windows Phone 7.8 update was spotted running on it. We’re dealing here with a 4 inch handset with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, 4 GB of storage, 256 MB of RAM and a 5 megapixel camera. Specs also include an 800 MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, an Adreno 200 GPU and a Li-Ion 1300 mAh battery. Since it manages to run Windows Phone 7.8, the device gets different tile sizes (small, medium and wide), plus new accent colors and the Bing lockscreen wallpaper, among others. WP 7.8 was recently confirmed to be rolling out soon, probably arriving before the year end on most compatible devices. Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 900 are seen as the first models to get it, so they may receive their share of updated software in mere weeks. I have to say that unlike lower end Android phones getting a relatively new version of the software, this device handles the Mango follow-up quite well. Related posts: |
5 Inch Galaxy Grand Hits the FCC, Could it be the Galaxy S4? Posted: 25 Nov 2012 06:16 AM PST Samsung Galaxy S4 has been getting a lot of press lately and yet another bunch of rumors have popped up, this time concerning a mysterious 5 inch handset called Galaxy Grand, that just reached the FCC. We may be dealing with the Galaxy S4 or maybe just a test model for Samsung, to see how a 5 inch smartphone would be received. It appears that the Galaxy Grand will be released on South Korea soon and it has now reached the FCC looking for approval. The codename of the phone is Baffin, but it also goes by the branding SHV-E270S, indicating a possible SK Telecom affiliation. The 5 inch smartphone will sport a 1.4 GHz quad core Exynos 4412 processor, LTE connectivity, NFC, a 2100 mAh battery, Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean as the OS and a crazy resolution. And by “crazy” I mean crazy bad, not crazy good. Apparently the 5 inch LCD will support as low as 800 x 480 pixels, putting it into Galaxy S II territory, or worse, since it’s not even Super AMOLED Plus. This is by no means a flagship, but rather a test model for the Galaxy S4 format, to see if a 5 inch phone can catch on, I think. Related posts: |
Sony Xperia P Coated in 24 Carat Gold Posted: 25 Nov 2012 03:23 AM PST Sony’s Xperia P continues the tradition of handsets with modest specs that are covered in precious metal. The Xperia P just got a luxury version covered in 24 carat gold, available in only 15 units. We’re still dealing with a dual core 1 GHz handset, but more of an experiment this time. The Xperia T got the James Bond treatment, so such experiments happen quite often these days. Sony also has a nifty promo regarding this new product, offering a golden Xperia P to its followers on Facebook. Not sure what the criteria for getting one is, but I’m sure you won’t get it out of the house too much, since it basically asks random people on the street to mug you. The Xperia P fits in the lineup of new Sony phones with a transparent area at the bottom. This phone was announced in February, released in May and it measures 10.5 mm in thickness and weighs 120 grams, although it may weigh more now, with an extra coating of gold. It has a 4 inch 540 x 960 pixel display, 16 GB of storage, no microSD card slot, HSDPA 14.4 Mbps connectivity, an 8 megapixel camera and originally came with Gingerbread if you can believe it… Related posts: |
