Microsoft’s Windows Phone Apollo Preview on June 20th

Posted: 05 Jun 2012 01:45 PM PDT

If you have no plans two weeks from now, be sure to keep it that way, since on June 20th Microsoft has prepared a special event, where they’ll preview the looks and features of Windows Phone 8 Apollo. All the questions will be answered and maybe we’ll get to see some nifty prototypes of first devices running this OS.

I guess that the launch of the final product will be sometime this fall, as MS celebrates two years of Windows Phone existence. WP8 will bring dual core power to this ecosystem, plus 720p display support on Nokia handsets, something we’ve been waiting for a long time now. I’m sure that Samsung, HTC and Nokia will jump on this opportunity and give the public some prototypes to check out at the event from June 20th. Worst case scenario, we’ll get a list of features and a reference design…

Best case scenario? We’ll see a beautiful integration with Windows 8 and Xbox 360, at least three prototypes with different formats (full touch, touch and type, maybe side sliding QWERTY), but those are already the stuff of wet dreams for geeks. What do you think we’ll see two weeks from now? What’s the main Windows Phone feature that needs improvement?

AT&T Announces Samsung Galaxy S III Price: $200 on Contract, Preorders Start June 6th

Posted: 05 Jun 2012 07:57 AM PDT

Yesterday we found out that all major US carriers, such as AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular will release the Samsung Galaxy S III, each with their own version of the device. Today AT&T offers some more details on the handset and its special offer.

AT&T will offer preorders for the phone starting June 6th and they’ve announced a price tag of $200, obviously with contract. They’ll also sell this model in red and packing a dual core Snapdragon S4 processor. Three color options will be available in total and the $200 price tag applies to the 16GB model alone. Shipping dates and retailer availability haven’t been announced yet. It appears that AT&T will ONLY be selling the 16GB unit, so if you want a 32GB one, maybe other US carriers will sell it.

This will be a 4G LTE phone and if you want extra storage, AT&T stores will have a special offer of $39 for a 16GB microSD card. Let me remind you that the Galaxy S III features a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED display, an ultra thin bezel and a 1.5 GHz dual core powerful CPU. I can’t guarantee this unit will come with 2GB of RAM, as I’ve heard some models will, but it’s very likely.

iOS 6.0 Mockup Shows OS Running on iPhone 5 Lookalike

Posted: 05 Jun 2012 02:26 AM PDT

Now that we’re days away from WWDC 2012, it’s obvious that rumors about iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 have increased in density. The latest in this series is a bunch of pictures made as mockups of the way iOS 6.0 will look like on the iPhone 5. The pics below speak for themselves:

Apple Core forums user gizmosachin created these images, based on recent rumors about the new iPhone and new iOS. As you probably know already, some leaked shots of the iPhone 5 facade reveal a longer handset, and the design changes, like the front camera design are also shown here. The UI change of color (bottom bar especially) is also taken care of, once again sticking to the rumors. The only major difference I can see here is that you gain some screen estate in Safari and other apps where you actually need that.

In other news, it’s now rumored that iOS 6 might bring a “Do Not Disturb” feature, that hides alerts and banners. This one will be available in the Settings area, as a toggle. Other rumored features for iOS 6.0 are Mail VIP and iCloud Tabs (syncing the current browser work on all devices, much like on Chrome for Android). Excited about this release?
