Nokia 808 PureView at GSM Store, Finland?

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 05:47 PM PDT

Timo from Symbian Suomi shares that the Nokia 808 PureView appears to be available in Finland. Well at least from a place called GSM-Store.

I was at the Nokia Flagship Store in Finland this afternoon (lol, saying this still sounds unreal to me and realising that zomg I’m in the home of freakin Nokia! I guess I should sleep but my flight is in a few hours so there’s no point) and staff were getting training about the 808 PureView. There was some mention of availability at certain countries but we were advised it wasn’t anything they should be quoted on just in case.

Price here may not actually reflect the actual Nokia Store price. Although having said that, I’ve heard from several peeps that Nokia phones are generally more expensive in Finland.

Cheers Timo for the tip!

Screenshots: Nokia Belle FP2?

Apparently this might be Belle FP2 keyboard. I’m not exactly sure if it’s real or where it came from but they got emailed to us. Is this real/custom firmware/photoshop?

You can see that there are suggested words appearing on the top as opposed to appearing at the cursor.

Below – additional button on the homescreen? I’ve seen this on some custom firmwares.

Supposedly here is what’s appearing:

Symbian Belle FP2 will have some good updates :)
- new keyboard
- new gallery (with share button)
- new music player
- new search button in home screen toolbar
- new unlock screen (by swiping)

Anyway, here’s the gallery.

Video: Nokia Asha 311 demo – looking smooth

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 05:34 PM PDT

Here’s a hands on of one of the Full touch S40 Nokia Asha Touch handsets, the Nokia Asha 311 launched yesterday.

I think it’s also a lot more stylish than the 305/306 and feels nicer to use due to the capacitive display. It actually shows off how smooth and responsive parts of the UI is. I totally forgot about resistive displays in the 305 and initially thought it might be S40 touch being unresponsive – but the 311 is pretty nice to use. It’s as we’ve been expecting, based on the manuals – various many hints to stylings and interactions from N9.

A very decent offering in this price range. I’ll post up some videos when I get back to Manchester as I can’t upload that well on the hotel WiFi.

Rumors: Current Windows Phones Might Settle for WP7.7 Rather than WP8

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 11:09 AM PDT

Yes; we’re back to the upgrade or not topic; this time the latest rumor comes from a German business article claiming that a trusted Nokia/MSFT source has informed that the current gen of windows phones will NOT be getting Apollo and instead will have to settle for a stripped down version of it that might be 7.6 or 7.7.

These handsets will recieve a stripped down version of Windows Phone 8 which may be called Windows Phone 7.6 or 7.7.

The publication reports  "An update is not technically possible because Windows Mobile 8 uses different chip sets."

Honestly this is probably the most logical rumor we’ve heard so far; changing the current UI to match whatever happens is definitely much easier than trying to figure out how to load full multitasking onto what would be considered an underpowered phone; I guess this is similar to whats happening with the N8 and the rest of the first gen S^3 devices which haven’t received Belle FP1 yet. My personal speculation is at the very least we might see Skype integration as well as some UI changes to the current range of WP; pf course we’ll find out more on June 20th once the Apollo “sneak peak” is revealed.

Lumiappaday #204: CarneyVale: Showtime demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800 #XboxLive

CarneyVale: Showtime is a fun game with a bit of an addictive gameplay. Your character is shot out of a canon and there are grabbing hooks that you must activate to catch him which spins around. Time it right to release him to catch the next hook and reach the goal. Whilst he’s in the air, you can tilt the phone for more movement. Catch balloons and extra life points on the way, avoid electrical boxes. There’s more that I didn’t encounter in the demo.

Nokia Maps for WP gets 2.0 update

Posted: 05 Jun 2012 05:43 AM PDT

I just got notified of an update to Nokia Maps on my Lumia 800. The new version is V2.0. There are a few new features included with the release

  • Sync favourites from Web(maps.nokia.com) to App/Mobile Site
  • Add own photos directly to a place
  • Share place reviews straight from your phone

Now the app should have popped up in the Marketplace already, but if not, use Ali’s tip to force the update
