Gallery: Nokia House

Posted: 05 Jun 2012 04:10 PM PDT

Hey folks! It was a jam packed day yesterday. I passed after sending a few tweets and setting these pictures to compress.

This post is mainly just a gallery of Nokia House. Looking back at a previous post on Nokia HQ in Finland, some parts look so different without all the ice/snow.

I’ll group together the post on the Nokia peeps in another post.

Keep an eye out for some interesting info later today :) . That is all for now.

Nokia 808 PureView availability map. 81 countries (+3?) for 808 PureView

Posted: 05 Jun 2012 04:00 PM PDT

The Nokia 808 PureView has an availability page. Muuuch easier to keep an eye on where it’s officially available.

There are 81 countries listed. North/South America isn’t clickable. However, didn’t we hear Mexico is getting the 808? Nokia US President mentioned Nokia would bring 808 PureView to US? Didn’t Nokia Brazil do some hands on demoes of the Nokia 808 PureView? Hopefully they’ll be added on soon.

UK doesn’t seem to be on there, nor South Africa.

Cheers Dave² for the tip!

WP Marketplace hits 100k milestone

Windows Phone Marketplace chart

Rafe over at AAWP, has put together a great post about the growth of the WP Marketplace. According to his calculations, over 300 new apps are published daily. That’s a great effort and a testament to developers.

Key points

As of June 3rd, 2012:

  • 100,145 apps published to the Windows Phone Marketplace over the last 20 months
  • 88,371 apps live (available for download, total across 60 countries)
  • Windows Phone reached the 100,000 milestone faster than Android (24 months), but slower than iOS (16 months)
  • 23,825 publishers (developers)
  • Proportion of quality apps (rated five or more times) stable at 8% (UK rating) 12% (US ratings)

Windows Phone Marketplace Visbility

There is a fantastic write-up by him, along with some more great graphs that I won’t go in depth with. But I suggest taking 5mins to read it as it’s been well researched. Kudos to Rafe for the effort!

Video & Gallery: Stormtrooper Lumia 900 Unboxing & Special Surprise

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 09:46 PM PDT

Yes the day has finally come and I’m super excited! Today a nice package from “Espoo Finland” arrived at the front desk (package was in exchange for Jay being sent to Finland :P ); regardless my all time favorite device for a while now is finally mine. Along with a nice little Surprise the Nokia people added in the box, so watch the video and share my excitement:

Pretty sweet huh? Well here’s the photo gallery; borderline NSFW

Nokia Questions from MNB Readers

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 09:28 PM PDT

Hey guys, I’ve rounded up your questions from the post:

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/06/04/the-trip-to-finland-begins/

There may be some additional ones that still need to be added but here’s what’s going on so far.

Note – I’m already expecting, and quite understandably, a lot of the answers being ‘we can’t comment on future products’ or words to that effect. But whilst we’re here we might as well ask.

‘Basic Smartphones’

  • Future of S40/Asha/Meltemi/Qt
  • Confirmation of Meltemi
  • ETA
  • Expectations

MeeGo-Harmattan

  • PR1.3 – anymore beyond that
  • Was swipe really created in just 8 months
  • Nokia’s future with Linux
  • Alien Dalvik – Android apps for N9

Lumia

  • Can current Lumia be upgraded to WP8
  • PureView ETA
  • Nokia Drive Integration
  • Improved Maps - Say the south entrance of a building, mall or park. need to be able to set to drive anywhere, save locations and routes and sync online. preasure MS to allow customised default map app and search
  • Operator Billing at marketplace
  • Lumia PureView
  • Nokia’s input to WP8

Symbian

  • Why Nokia 600 cancelled?
  • Why the naming change of firmware again? FP1/Carla
  • Future Symbian device after 808

808/PureView

  • Do they plan to release a FCam-like API for the 808 PV so that us developers can tap into the awesomeness of its processing?
  • PureView expansion with lightfield?
  • Optical Zoom
  • Future updates for Symbian past FP1
  • Australia?
  • Rich recording for older devices

Design/Future stuff:

  • New designs, not just N9 style?
  • QWERTY monoblock?
  • Waterproof phones
  • Stretchable phones time frame
  • What’s Mr Skillman workin on?
  • Tablet – what will they run on?
  • ETA tablets?
  • How will it be not just any other tablet?
  • Dual OS phones
Accessories
  • Pico Projector (or built in)
  • Nokia Charging Mat
  • Feedback on current headphones
  • New campaigns for Nokia Monster Purity
  • Sales
  • Is the partnership with Monster a long-term? Will Nokia partner with other audio companies such as Sennheiser?

Other

  • Nokia staff reaction to what’s going on at Nokia
  • Naming convention –  inconsistent
  • Actually launching products close to launch – cut down delay

Feel free to add others BELOW and I’ll try my best to cover them later in the day or find someone to ask tomorrow.
