WWDC 2012 Starts Today! 6 Hours Left and iOS 6.0 Ready to Debut!

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 04:02 AM PDT

June 2012 is an extremely busy month! First we had Computex 2012 last week, now WWDC 2012 starts today and next week there’s a Microsoft event meant to preview Windows Phone 8. At the end of the month there’s also Google I/O, but before that let’s focus on some of the products that Apple may announce today during the WWDC 2012 opening keynote.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO will be on stage doing the keynote and he’ll surely announce iOS 6.0, among others, as confirmed by the banners all over Moscone Center. Other things that are supposedly coming today are the Mountain Lion release date announcement and iCloud updates, plus some new MacBooks and iMacs. iOS 6.0 is rumored to integrated Facebook deeper, include a new mapping solution and Siri for iPad. As you know already, Apple plans to dump Google as provider of Maps and go with its own service, created by C3, a company bought not so long ago.

The last iOS update brought better Twitter integration and now the new iOS will bring improved Facebook integration into the platform. Apple’s rumored iMaps is supposed to have a 3D feature and maybe some turn by turn features. Rumors also say that Apple may launch a Siri API at the event, allowing developers to integrate Siri functionality into their applications. Mountain Lion, Apple’s latest desktop OS was announced in February and promised for a summer release. We’ll find out the exact release date at WWDC 2012 and the latest changes that the OS offers. Apparently, this platform will borrow the best features from iOS.

iCloud is also expected to get an update, with social integration, the ability to comment on photos you share and downloading them. Reminders and Notes could be drawn into the iCloud as web apps as well. And finally, we could get new Macbooks with Ivy Bridge processors and Retina Displays and a new generation of iMacs. There’s also speculation about an Apple HDTV and iPad Mini, but that’s probably not the case… We’ll be back with more info once the event goes live and everything is announced!

LG Optimus 4X HD Available in Europe Starting Today

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 01:39 AM PDT

If you didn’t already buy the quad core HTC One X or the Samsung Galaxy S III, there’s yet another alternative with 4 core CPU available: LG Optimus 4X HD. This model is out in Europe today, with LG announcing that Germany will get the Tegra 3-based device first, before reaching the likes of Netherlands, Sweden, the UK and Italy.

Launches in Asia, Central and South America and Eastern Europe will follow afterwards. What this model brings as extra is the Optimus UI 3.0 on top of Android 4.0. It’s certainly a better skin compared to TouchWiz or Motoblur, for example. LG Optimus 4X HD measures 8.9mm in thickness, weighs 133 grams and has a True HD IPS LCD screen with a 4.7 inch diagonal and 720p resolution. It also has a microSD card slot, 16GB of storage and 1GB of RAM. It does 21 Mbps HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and microUSB 2.0.

At the back there’s an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, plus geotagging, face and smile detection and touch focus. The same camera does 1080p 30 fps video capture and upfront there’s a 1.3MP cam as well. The CPU inside is a quad core 1.5 GHz Cortex A9 Tegra 3 unit. Powering this unit is a Li-Ion 2140 mAh battery.

Nokia Lumia 900 Launched in China; Local Star Han Geng Endorses It

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 01:24 AM PDT

If you remember, Nokia Lumia 800 launched with a bang in China, generating queues in front of the stores that sold it. Now it’s Lumia 900′s turn to take the country by storm and it debuted with a fancy launch event, involving Han Geng, a local star and singer/actor who’s part of a boyband.

Sadly we have no idea what network will sell this device, since the sources don’t mention it. The event drew a huge crowd, mostly for the star and it appears that Nokia’s 41 megapixel 808 PureView device also made an appearance, possibly preparing for a local launch as well. You probably know everything there is to know about the Lumia 900 and its 4.3 inch display with 480 x 800 resolution, 8 megapixel camera, Mango OS, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

Last I heard, this model had a big promotion campaign in the US, with Nicki Minaj concerts on board and a very low price tag of $99 on special contracts on AT&T. And now with rumors about Nokia’s possible sale to Samsung, I’m wondering where it all went wrong and Lumia stopped being a hit.
