Huawei Ascend P1 Gets Previewed by Us (Video)

Posted: 11 Aug 2012 03:03 PM PDT

We’ve just received for testing purposes a very sexy smartphone, the Huawei Ascend P1, actually one of the best looking phones of 2012. This together with the ASUS PadFone are the best looking handsets with Android right now, there’s no doubt about that. This model was unveiled at MWC 2012, together with the P1 S, one of the thinnest phones in the world. This one is also thin, but more about that below.

The device is priced somewhere between 400 and 500 euros, so it’s pretty pricey. It measures 7.7mm in thickness, weighs 110 grams and feels very light and slim in the user’s hand. It has the SIM card slot and microSD card slots exposed, at the top and side respectively. At the front it offers a Super AMOLED 4.3 inch display with 540 x 960 pixel resolution, as well as Dolby Mobile 3.0 Plus technology and 1GB of RAM. At the back we have an 8 megapixel camera and this smartphone runs Android 4.0 ICS.

It has a special 3D interface that you can activate, but more about that in the full review. It also has more options in the camera area than the average Android phones offer nowadays, especially in the effects area. We’ll be back with a full review soon!

Windows Phone 8 HTC Rio and Accord Phones Coming Next Month?

Posted: 11 Aug 2012 12:39 PM PDT

HTC will be among the first companies to unveil Windows Phone 8 devices next month, together with the likes of Nokia and Samsung. Now we have extra info about HTC’s first WP8 devices, the HTC Rio and According, or so say some recent leaks, pointing towards their debut in the third week of September.

Rio is supposed to feature a 4 inch WVGA display and 1GHz dual core CPU, while the HTC Accord is also a dual core device, but one with a 1.5 GHz ticker and a bigger 4.3 inch HD display. The info comes from Chinese site wpdang, that recently leaked a lot of info about many other new handsets. They also say that HTC’s announcement event will take place in London or New York. You should keep your eyes peeled for more info in the following week or so.

There’s a third model called Zenith, also made by HTC and supposed to join the trio of Windows Phone 8 newcomers. Will we see a quad core smartphone with the new Microsoft OS this year or do we have to wait till 2013?

LG Eclipse (LS970) Appears at the FCC, Ready for Debut on Sprint With LTE

Posted: 11 Aug 2012 04:52 AM PDT

LG Eclipse was leaked several times before and it was made famous by the fact that it’s one of the few handsets with 2GB of RAM. Also known as LG LS970, this phone appeared at the FCC now and it’s ready to debut on Sprint, where it will work on its LTE network. Seeing that the 3 best selling Samsung phones in USA are on Sprint, I suddenly respect this carrier more.

The device is supposed to be a monster, with a quad core Krait CPU, Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM and much more goodies, like a 4.7 inch HD display. The device also supports NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi a/b/g/n, GPS and SVLTE (simultaneous voice and data). The dimensions of the phone will be 130.9 x 71.6 mm, but we have no idea about the thickness of the phone. This sounds like a nifty alternative to the Galaxy S III, provided that it comes with a crisp display and good battery.

LG Eclipse 4G LTE runs Android 4.0 ICS, uses 16GB of storage and has a bomb of a camera, a 13 megapixel sensor, according to rumors. The second half of 2012 is when this model is rumored to appear in stores.

Sony LT25 Tsubasa, New Leaked Phone With Snapdragon S4 CPU, 720p Screen

Posted: 11 Aug 2012 03:25 AM PDT

Sony has been preparing intensively for IFA 2012 Berlin and aside from the Xperia Mint, Xperia J, Xperia SL and Hayabusa models we’ll also see this newcomer: Sony LT25 Tsubasa. This device just leaked in the NenaMark 2 benchmark, that revealed some details concerning this newcomer.

Tsubasa comes in LTE and HSPA+ models, with specs like a 720p screen, a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and Android 4.0 ICS. The device scores 58 FPS in NenaMark 2, pretty close to the 60 FPS we scored recently on the ASUS PadFone, but explainable by the superior resolution of the Sony phone, that must move more pixels than the PadFone. The CPU on the Tsubasa is a 1.5 GHz one and the handset’s screen supports a 1196 x 720 pixel resolution. The 84 missing pixels are taken up by the on screen buttons in Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

There’s also an Adreno 225 GPU on board, so this is in fact the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 SoC that’s available here. AnTuTu is showing the CPU frequency as 1.5 GHz and it appears that the LT25C version will be made by China telecom, while the SO-01E will be for NTT DoCoMo and the SOL21 will come to KDDI.
