Android Multi User Support Found in Jelly Bean, Tested on Galaxy S III (Video)

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 01:50 PM PDT

Jelly Bean and the following versions of Android are supposed to develop on this idea of multi user functionality in Android. Codes and files have been discovered this week deep inside Android and people snooping around have found that multiple user accounts can be active in future versions of software.

So, in the future we’ll have a login screen with multiple separate accounts for you, your relatives, friends etc. XDA Developers have been on the case for a while now and user zanderman112 shows how you can activate the function on an Android device, in this case a Galaxy S III with Jelly Bean. Obviously, the feature is not finalized yet, so there’s a bit of work to be done on it. Well, at least the base of the feature is set and the future sounds interesting.

At the moment you can create a second user, a guest that will only explore the device in a limited way. They will get to the Settings area, where they can access connectivity settings, sound, display, about phone and Security, with limited features. The next Android version could develop on this idea and the possibilities of co-working and sharing a device are great.

Nokia Windows Phone 8 Prototype Gets Pictured… Could be WP 7.8 Unit

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 06:17 AM PDT

We have no doubt that Nokia will unveil WP8 devices in September, pertaining to the Lumia series. One of them is supposed to be the model pictured below, although I can’t guarantee it’s actually a newcomer. The picture you see here is supposed to be show a Nokia Windows Phone 8 prototype.

That’s what’s written on the bottom side of the phone, underneath the display, according to the tipster who provided the pictures. We notice from the start the smaller tiles, showing it could be Windows Phone 8 after all. However, it could be an existing Lumia model with an early build of Windows Phone 7.8. The only strange thing here is the lime-yellow color of the handset, that can’t be found on current Lumias, that are available in black, white, magenta, pink or blue.

There was a hue like this on a leaked device in December 2011, but we haven’t heard anything since. To me this looks very much like the Lumia 900 is a new color and with WP7.8, so I think there’s no reason to get excited. Making a fourth Nokia N9 twin would be a big mistake from Nokia, that would become boring at this point, so let’s hope this is not the only novelty from the Finns in this summer end.

iPhone 5 Nano SIM Tray Gets Pictured, Home Button Too

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 03:13 AM PDT

We’ve seen many aspects of the iPhone 5 so far, including the case design, front panel, connector and more. Now it’s time to check out that nano SIM tray and the Home button, that were recently published by a source in China. So, it’s actually true that Apple might switch to nano SIM instead of micro SIM…

The authorities in the telecom field have apparently selected Apple’s new design for the SIM card and I say apparently, since there were several few other proposals of designs. Reports say that European carriers are stocking on new SIMs, preparing for the next gen iPhone launch. You can also see here a smaller home button, that fits some other previous leaks and rumors. This tray is designed to slip into the SIM card slot of the iPhone 5 and confirms the adoption of the new standard.

I guess that the new iPhone will be more about new minor features and less about big ones. One of the minor features included here is the new SIM card, but we also get a new dock connector, so yet another standard is changed. What else will they change?
