HTC Proto Gets Pictured, Apparently It’s a HTC One V Successor

Posted: 24 Aug 2012 05:09 AM PDT

Rumors say that the freshly leaked HTC Proto is a HTC One V successor, although it certainly doesn’t look the part. The device is said to feature a 4 inch display and a dual core Snapdragon processor, but overall it’s a lower end affair with Android. Its design reminds me of the HTC Sensation and I find the camera area to be pretty unique.

Specs include 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of storage and HSPA support. HTC Proto keeps the 3 capacitive keys below the display, that HTC is so fond of and gets rounded edges and a case that I can already imagine as nice to touch. Can’t really tell why this is pegged as a One V successor, since it doesn’t have the famous chin. The specifications aren’t that evolved from the One V either, to be honest.

Could it be that HTC will also bring new products to IFA 2012 Berlin? It starts next week and Samsung, Sony and a few other big names will have novelty to unveil. It’s possible that we’ll see this lower end smartphone taking off, probably with another name, not the HTC Proto we’ve heard of.

Nokia Preparing Arrow and Phi Windows Phone 8 Devices for September Release

Posted: 24 Aug 2012 04:53 AM PDT

Nokia and Microsoft have a big event scheduled for September 5th, where they’ll debut Windows Phone 8 devices in New York City and these phones will most likely be sold by AT&T. The Verge is saying that Nokia will launch, among others the models Arrow and Phi with WP8 on board. The Phi is the higher end unit, the successor to the Lumia 800 and 900.

Arrow is more of a midrange endeavor and getting back to the Phi, this model has been leaked in the past. The leaks show a phone with a polycarbonate shell, similar to the one on the Lumia 800 and Lumia 900, as well as a curved screen. Rumors say that we could be dealing with a device that has a 4 inch screen and a new patent uncovered by The Verge says that the phone actually looks like the Lumia 900, albeit with a few modifications.

Phi and Arrow are expected on AT&T, Microsoft’s premier partner for Windows Phone 7. The Arrow will also come to T-Mobile, that carries the Lumia 710 right now. A version of the Arrow codenamed Atlas will even reach Verizon, the typical carrier for Android devices. The last rumors on the list say that Microsoft will release Windows Phone 8 in November, two months after the Lumia announcement.

Sharp Aquos SH-10D Available Today on NTT DoCoMo for Preorder, Full Launch Next Week

Posted: 24 Aug 2012 02:03 AM PDT

The Sharp AQUOS SH-10D was supposed to hit NTT DoCoMo this summer, so I can’t say I’m surprised to see it up for preorder today in Japan. It’s available via the previously mentioned carrier and it will be launched in stores and on retailers from August 30th. The device comes in 3 colors and it’s interesting to know that it recently passed through the FCC, so it could come to the USA.

We’re dealing here with a 4.5 inch display device, with a 1.5 GHz dual core processor, a 12.1 megapixel camera at the back and a 0.32 megapixel front shooter. This is a GSM and HSPA+/WCDMA radio device, with 1 GB of RAM, 8 B of storage and a microSD card slot. The pricing is expected to be above $200, maybe in the range of $300. However, on carrier contract it could be a much smaller amount of money.

This model was part of a lineup of phones announced by NTT DoCoMo in May and I expect several other smartphones to pop up these days on the same carrier. In other news, I have to say that the orange wallpaper is pretty cool, but the handset’s overall shape and back case design is a bit too rigid and not so sexy.
