LG Optimus Vu 2 Will Sport an Infrared Universal Remote Control

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 12:32 PM PDT

LG promised that its upcoming Optimus Vu 2 Android phablet will be the world’s first device with QRemote, an infrared remote control system that allows you to take over any device around the house. That includes remote controlling a TV, audio system, air conditioning and many other devices. The controller device doesn’t even need to be made by LG.

The QRemote app is accessible from the lock screen and it’s shown in the image above. It comes preinstalled on the Vu 2, that may just be announced at this week’s IFA 2012 event in Berlin. The device will be released in South Korea next month, a very strange release date, considering the first Optimus Vu with Tegra 3 CPU is only now debuting on the international market. And we’re talking here about a model announced in February!

It’s very likely that something got lost in translation and this “Vu 2″ is actually the first Vu with quad core CPU and the preinstalled remote control app, plus international availability. One thing is for sure: one Vu model is coming to the US via Verizon Wireless dubbed LG Intuition. This one is coming on September 15th. We’ll see if it has any remote control app…

Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 Quad Core Phone Pictured? Mysterious Tweet and Picture Appear!

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 03:48 AM PDT

A recent tweet with an interesting picture claim that this is a part of a Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 device with quad core CPU and HD screen. Of course, it could be a mockup/concept and the specs imagined, but the image is very believable and with the FCC logo present, it makes the matter even more realistic.

As you probably know, on September 5th Nokia and Microsoft are expected to announce new Lumia devices and maybe even a tablet during Nokia World. This model doesn’t fit any of the leaks and expectations, as the picture reveals a blocky, bulky and Bang & Olufsen-like handset. What’s really interesting is the upper port/grille, that I can’t really figure out and the side grille/dotted area, that’s also pretty mysterious. Is this another one of those cool music phones from Nokia?

Well, there are two things that come to mind regarding the upper area: projector or proprietary port, maybe a new type of HDMI. This design is very much unlike what Nokia showed off recently and the curves are completely gone, being replaced by straight lines. Is this a real or fake, what do you think?

LG Intuition Press Shot Leaks, Coming to Verizon On September 15th

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 02:25 AM PDT

LG Optimus Vu was recently rumored to come to Verizon, but not with its original branding. Instead it will be called LG Intuition and branded Verizon, as shown in the pic below. The squared edge 5 inch phablet took a very long while to debut, since it was announced in February and only now it reaches the stores.

The press shot of the device indicates the date September 15th and usually when a date is mentioned on the screen, that’s when the product debuts. Of course you should take the info with a grain of salt and many of you will probably ignore the product, seeing that Samsung will launch its new Galaxy Note II in just days from now. LG Intuition offers a 8.5mm waistline, weighs 168 grams and sports a 5 inch 768 x 1024 pixel display (HD IPS LCD). It also comes with Dolby audio technology, 32 GB of storage, 1 GB of RAM, HSDPA, LTE and Bluetooth 3.0.

It has NFC, microUSB 2.0 with MHL and at the back there’s an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, image stabilization and 1080p 30 fps capture. The OS of choice is the antique Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but I truly hope that Verizon will be able to launch it at least with Android 4.0 ICS, or else the phablet will be put to shame by the Galaxy Note II.

Lenovo Surpasses Apple in Chinese Smartphone Market Share

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 02:07 AM PDT

Believe it or not, Lenovo is a big player when it comes to smartphone, but not in USA and also not in Europe. They recently surpassed Apple in the local Chinese smartphone market and managed to jump from 7th place to second place in the first quarter. Shipments of smartphones in China, that amounted to 87 million units passed shipments of feature phones for the first time, as well.

Samsung was responsible for over 50% of the shipments with 44.4 million units, while Lenovo scored 11% of all Chinese smartphone sales in Q2, says IDC Research. Lenovo’s jump was due to huge Q2 volumes through operators and their push into retail, relying on its PC retail stores and partnerships. Teck-Zhung Wong, an analyst in Beijing with the IDC said in an email to Bloomberg that Lenovo adopted these measures to attain this impressive volume.

Meanwhile, due to the anticipation of the iPhone 5 and also the fresh Samsung, HTC and ZTE phones, Apple’s sales decreased from 19% to 10%, making the company reach the 4th spot of the top 10 handset sellers in Q2. Samsung now has a share of 19%, the same as the one in Q1. You should probably also know that Lenovo is the world’s second largest maker of personal computers, behind Hewlett Packard.
