iPhone 5 Golden 24 Karat Version, Plated With Gold

Posted: 25 Sep 2012 10:54 AM PDT

If you think that your $199 iPhone 5 is too cheap, you may want to purchase it covered in gold. There’s now a special version from London firm Gold and Co, that offers the new Apple phone beautified with the precious metal. You can see the sparkly customization applied to the device in the following pics.

The British company is famous for such customization and applying gold to the famous gadgets and devices, so the iPhone 5 had it coming. Considering it already sold 5 million units, the product is famous enough to get the gold treatment. Anyway, you should know that the golden iPhone 5 goes for $4600, while the rose gold version goes for $5000. I wonder how the gold application affects the weight and maybe the connectivity of the handset, although the latter could escape unscathed.

The handset is very sparkly and elegant after the treatment and it looks very interesting, with a metallic look that will create some strong reflections on a sunny day. Is it worth spending so much money on an iPhone 5? Maybe, if you’re a football player or Hollywood star…

Nokia Announces Asha 308 and Asha 309 Handsets, Part of the Asha Touch Series (Video)

Posted: 25 Sep 2012 03:18 AM PDT

Nokia expanded its Asha Touch family by announcing the Nokia Asha 308 and Nokia Asha 309 models. The newcomers feature a fluid swipe-based user interface and an open environment for third party app development. Nokia Asha 308 and Asha 309 feature 3 inch, scratch resistant, capacitive displays and 2 megapixel cameras.

The users of the new handsets can easily swipe between the application launcher and personalize their “My Screen” with favourite contacts, apps and shortcuts. There’s also the option of a third home screen, with quick access to the most user features, like the phone dialer or music player. Nokia Asha 308 and 309 use Nokia’s new Xpress Browser, based on cloud compression technology, that makes web surfing fast and consumes 90% less data. Nokia Asha 308 is available in black and golden light and it comes with an easy swap dual SIM system, allowing you to change SIM cards without turning off the device.

The Nokia Asha 309 model is a single SIM unit with WiFI and an Internet radio app for unlimited streaming of tens of thousands of global online radio stations. It will be available in black or white and prices for both new models should be around $99, excluding taxes and subsidies. A launch is expected at Q4 2012. You should also know that both newcomers are 2G models with WQVGA touchscreens, FM radio, microSD storage, stereo loudspeakers and free games from EA.

iPhone 5 DOES NOT Have the Best Display on the Market, Nokia Lumia 920 is Superior! Here’s Why!

Posted: 25 Sep 2012 01:57 AM PDT

During the iPhone 5 showcasing on September 12th, Apple bragged not only about launching the thinnest smartphone on the market, but also the one with the best display. Both statements were wrong, since there quite a few thinner handsets and also some devices with better display. One of them is the Nokia Lumia 920, that while not thinner it’s certainly better in the display area.

Full image here!

First of all, the iPhone 5 doesn’t even offer much of a resolution, in spite of being Retina Display level. It offers a 1136 x 640 pixel resolution, at 326 ppi, versus the Lumia 920 1280 x 768 pixels and 332 ppi. The Nokia phone also has a bigger diagonal, of 4.5 inches versus the 4 inches of the iPhone 5. Moving on, you should know that both screens uses LED IPS technology, but the Nokia screen is much brighter, at 600 nits, while the new iPhone only delivers 569 nits units.

Another advantage of the Nokia phone is the better visibility in full sunlight and you should know that the infographic we found actually compares the Nokia Lumia 900 screen behaviour in sunlight with the iPhone 5′s and even that model wins, so imagine what the new and improved Lumia 920 will do. Another advantage is the PureMotion HD+ tech, with a response time that’s 2.5x the one of normal IPS screens, with 60 Hz refresh rate. So, it appears that the iPhone 5 doesn’t actually sport the most revolutionary screen on the market… sorry Apple!

Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2 Camera Sample Leaked

Posted: 25 Sep 2012 12:28 AM PDT

We’re getting close to the one year anniversary of the excellent handset Samsung Galaxy Nexus, a phone that had major leaks last year. It would be about time to start seeing leaks for its successor and that’s exactly what’s happening here, as we’ve just spotted a leaked Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2 camera sample.

The idea is that Samsung uses model numbers rather than code names for their handsets and tablets. So, the original Nexus was codenamed GT-i9250, while the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II and Galaxy S III were the i9000, i9100 and i9300. Today we get to see a newcomer name GT-i9250, clearly related to the Galaxy Nexus and showing up on Picasa, in the shape of a few sample pics taken with the device. A phone with this codename appeared in some photo EXIF data, so it fits previous name upgrades for newer devices.

Rumors say we should expect the Galaxy Nexus 2 to feature the same 4.65 inch HD Super AMOLED screen, but also a better camera, bigger battery, 2 GB of RAM and either a faster dual core CPU or a quad core one. Theoretically the new phone could have pretty much the same camera as the Galaxy S II, which wouldn’t be bad, since that model had a very good camera. Also rumored to be dubbed Galaxy Nexus Premiere, the device will now have a microSD card slot, LTE, NFC and maybe even Key Lime Pie as the OS.
