WP8 Centralised Notifications concept

Posted: 27 Sep 2012 04:20 PM PDT

Centralised notification centre. Not sure which camp you rest in regarding how WP should address this, but I’m siding with those that want to see an improvement. Me tile is ok, as is the lock screen info but that’s not enough.

I’d like a left swipe (aka N9) stylie, but with condensed information on notifications. It makes sense since there’s a screen for notifications, a screen for tiles and a screen for the apps. I like the presentation shown above but I think that just sits over the main tiles only after tapping the live tile.

Left swipe makes the most sense. I think BB has something similar (or an attempt at it anyway)

Lab test: Nokia 808 PureView drop-test, Nokia Lumia 920 stabilisation shake rig

Posted: 27 Sep 2012 04:00 PM PDT

A couple of interesting videos, yet again bestowed by Engadget.

http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/27/lumia-920-IS-lab-test/

First up is a drop test. It features the Nokia 808 PureView and Galaxy SIII. Both still work (so no worries that Nokia made the SGSIII test harder to force a fail). It was actually the 808 that burst open with the battery flying out – something that has also happened to me. 808 totally fine.
Next up, the stabilisation test. Now some people were complaining that in the Nokia demoes, the induced shake was weaker, making OIS mode appear better. But in this mechanical simulation, you can see the level of shake does not change, but the shaking is reduced quite a lot by OIS.

Nokia Asha 308/309 promo videos

Posted: 27 Sep 2012 08:54 AM PDT

Here are a couple of promo videos for the new Nokia Asha Touch smartphones, Nokia Asha 308 and 309. I already liked the design at launch but I’m loving it even more by the day. It’s possibly the best looking budget phone, no?

Lumia 820/920 confirmed for Australia; Pricing and release date comes to Italy

Posted: 27 Sep 2012 05:07 AM PDT

First up, I got emailed earlier today about the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 being confirmed for Australia. That is good news as the initial “availability map” (since removed) never included Australia. The Lumia 920 will be launched on Telstra, compatible with their new 4G network. The Lumia 820 will be available to “Vodafone and Optus Business customers”. Information about dates, pricing and colour options will come “late October”. From this, it isn’t expected to see devices until November at least. Full press release can be found at source link.

Secondly, Nokia Italy has reportedly announced that the devices will be coming Mid-November. Also, according to Nokioteca, the Lumia 920 will be available for 599 Euros, and the Lumia 820 at 499 Euros. The devices will be on Telecom Italia, Three, Vodafone & Wind. This seems to be the first official confirmation of pricing, and at least a rough date, besides “Q4″ or “coming weeks”.

Just to make sure we all know: The 649 Euro ($836) for the LUMIA920 in Germany already INCLUDE 19% VAT. So the US like price before taxes is 525 Euro ($678).

Cheers Francesco for the tip!

Video: Green Day: Live At Irving Plaza, w/ Nokia Music and AT&T

Posted: 26 Sep 2012 11:08 PM PDT

At the start of September, we heard that Green Day will be there for the launch of Nokia Music in the US with AT&T.

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/09/08/greenday-set-to-officially-kick-off-nokia-music-in-us-come-sept-15th/

Now, When September Ends :) we see footage from that show on Green Day’s YouTube.

I don’t know what they filmed this on, probably from some professional set up – but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was the Nokia 808 PureView since that has already been surprising us throughout the year with video and sound  quality like pro-equipment.

Nokia Store reaches 16 Million daily downloads + Nokia Innovation Centre to be built in Beijing?

Posted: 26 Sep 2012 11:00 PM PDT

According to ChinaTechNews, Nokia will be building an ‘experience innovation centre’ aimed at providing platform for ‘Internet entrepreneurial solutions’ in Beijing. This would serve developers, entrepreneurs as well as supposedly promote building of a “world-class software ecological park”.

“Nokia’s experience innovation center plans to select 3,000 innovations, support 300 start-up companies, and promote the IPO of 30 innovative companies.”

http://www.chinatechnews.com/2012/09/27/16652-nokia-to-build-innovation-center-in-beijing

The first phase is apparently already underway and the second phase is under construction, expected to be completed by 2013.

A 1,300% growth of WP applications to 100,000 is mentioned but more interesting is the report that he most interesting bit Nokia Store for apps has apparently increased again to 16 Million daily downloads – (Asha’s as the driving force) with accumulated downloads at 6 billion.

Nokia’s application store now has a daily download volume of 16 million and the accumulated downloads have reached six billion. I can’t seem to find info from Nokia. The last Nokia Store updates info I can find was back in July, when it reached 15M/Day

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/07/03/nokia-store-reaches-15-million-daily-downloads-5-4billionyear-rate-120000-apps/

At the time there were 5 billion cumulative downloads. In less than two months, there’s a whole billion more downloads. At 16m/day, that’s a rate of about 5.84B/year.
