Nokia Announces Lumia 820 4.3 Inch Smartphone With Exchangeable Battery Cover, WP8 (Video)

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 10:29 AM PDT

Aside from the Nokia Lumia 920, the Finnish company and Microsoft announced today the Nokia Lumia 820, a 4.3 inch smartphone with exchangeable battery cover and Windows Phone 8. The handset uses the same 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 CPU as the one of the Lumia 920, plus 1 GB of RAM and a 4.3 inch display.

The handset’s design finally strays from the classic Lumia 900/800 format and gets turned into something symmetrical. The screen uses a glass ClearBlack OLED 800 x 480 pixel display, a flat one and not convex like on the 920. The body’s finish is glossy polycarbonate and the device doesn’t feature a PureView camera, unlike the Lumia 900. You get an 8 megapixel Carl Zeiss optics sensor and a front facing VGA camera for video conferencing. There’s also 8 GB of storage on board, a microSD card slot and an extra 7 GB of storage on Microsoft’s SkyDrive service.

The handset will ship with a bunch of protective cases in varied colors, including ones that give QI wireless charging compatibility. The screen here is a 4.3 inch HD AMOLED one, in case you are wondering and other specs include NFC, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi and the Adreno 225 GPU will take care of gaming. There’s a 1650 mAh battery inside and the device weighs 160 grams and measures 9.9 mm in thickness.

Nokia Lumia 920 Officially Announced at Nokia World 2012: WP8, Dual Core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU (Video)

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 09:59 AM PDT

Just one hour ago Nokia and Microsoft announced the Nokia Lumia 920 handset, a new Windows Phone 8 device that debuted in Helsinki. We’re dealing with a device that features a curved 4.5 inch PureMotion HD+ display and a dual core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor as the thicker of the smartphone.

Other features include a 2,000 mAh battery, NFC, integrated wireless charging and at the back there’s an 8.7 megapixel PureView camera, with support for 1080p video capture. The screen supports a 1280 x 768 pixel resolution, so it’s past HD and it’s also 25% brighter than any other panel on the market. This is also the fastest LCD Nokia ever included into a smartphone. Nokia also offers a technology called Super Sensitive Touch on the device that makes it work with gloves or mitts in the winter.

The PureView action here is not the 41 megapixel kind, but rather a new piece of modern technology involving a “floating lens”, with kickass hardware image stabilization and impressive low light abilities. The case is all polycarbonate, but this time a glossy and polished one, not a matte one. Nokia Lumia 920 uses wireless charging based on the Qi standard and it will come in pentaband LTE and HSPA+ versions later this year. The device runs WP8 obviously and will come in yellow, red, white, grey and black.

Mysterious HTC 5 Inch Phablet Leaks Again, In Another Blurry Picture

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 05:16 AM PDT

There’s been a lot of talk about a HTC 5 inch phablet lately and two pics even leaked out over the past weekend. They showed a device with a red circle around the case and another circle around the camera. Now we have a fresh blurry picture of the same device, the mystery phablet that appeared last week.

This is either a total newcomer, or a mere upgrade of the HTC One X to One X+. That one brings an extra 0.3 inches to the screen, more RAM and an enhanced CPU, up to 1.7 GHz, but the same Tegra 3 chipset. Chinese forums that leaked this out say that this is the HTC Endeavour C2, so this is the codename is goes by. Frankly, I’m hoping it’s a total newcomer and now just a run of the mill update. We also know that this model will be compatible with One X accessories.

To me the handset looks pretty rectangular and long compared to other phablets out there, not that I mind, since I don’t dig the “fat” allure of the LG Optimus Vu, for example. Is a HTC One X with an extra 0.3 inches and a slight CPU bump worth the money?

Images Showing What Looks Like “The New iPhone” Surface

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 02:29 AM PDT

It is one of the most expected devices and its only days away till the official announcement. Apple has sent invitations for their special event held in San Francisco on 12th of this month (September). The press image shows the date but we can clearly notice the number 5 in the shadow of the numbers (see image bellow).

iphone_2012_media_invite

iPhonenieuwsblog.nl claim to have a first image showing the upcoming Apple smartphone. According to them and as you can tell from the picture, the new dvice will be called the “new iPhone”, just like they did with the iPad (3). This claim comes with a question mark. Why the five on the Apple media invite if they are going to call it the “new iPhone”? The next iPhone is actually the sixth generation so there would be now reason for Apple to include a 5 unless they decided to call it iPhone 5 or they are just teasing it without any relation to the actual naming. On the other hand, it would be in line with Apple’s strategy for its other products, such as MacBook’s. There is no MacBook 3 or something but you just “the new MacBook”.

The surfaced photo was taken in the Asian printing where they spot boxes for the new iPhone to print them for packing and shipping. This picture shows a worker displaying an images of what appears to be the new iPhone (5). I guess we’ll find out in just a few days on September 12th.

HTC Announces September 19th Event, Promises to Show “What’s Next”; WP8 Unveil, Phablet or New Tablet?

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 01:31 AM PDT

September is a month full of events, so after beginning the month with IFA 2012, now we find out there’s an Apple event on the 12th, the unveiling of the iPhone 5. Also, today is the big day of the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 model unveiling and Motorola also launches something today. In this wave of launches HTC also announced an event for the 19th of this month.

The invitation is pictured above and the event takes place in New York. As shown in this image there’s a blue symbol that reminds me of Google Now somehow, so it makes new think about Jelly Bean updates or phones with Jelly Bean preinstalled. There’s always the option of showcasing Windows 8 smartphones, since HTC didn’t do that at IFA, or maybe unveiling that rumored 5 inch phablet that’s supposed to rival the Galaxy Note II and bring a 1080p display.

Also, there have been a lot of rumors concerning a quad core HTC tablet or maybe the upgraded HTC One X+ handset. There’s a lot to speculate on, but the phablet and WP8 devices are the most likely newcomers. HTC Accord, Rio and Zenith are the models with the rumored Windows Phone HTCs to keep an eye on.
