BlackBerry 10 L Series Handset Leaked on Hands On Clip and Photos (Video)

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 12:39 PM PDT

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any BlackBerry-related rumors, so here’s a fresh leak, showing a new handset with BB OS 10 on board. Apparently, this model pertains to the L series and also gets a short hands on after the break. We’re dealing with a phone that uses a LS1 1800 mAh battery and that’s pretty much all we know about it.

You can also see the home screen of the device, with the cute looking UI for BB 10 OS. The Home screen includes apps like Music, Videos, Maps, App World, texting, BBM, Calendar, Browser and Contacts. There’s a lot of blurring going around the edges of the device below and the video also shows StoryMaker and FocalPoint, with the later being an app made for video editing and also being the result of RIM’s recent acquisition of JayCut. At the top of the post there’s DocsToGo and Facebook, so you can edit documents and socialize, obviously.

Nice to see that RIM secured a Facebook app already, seeing how FB has problems on Android and RIM… well, they also have problems of their own. I expect further leaks over the following days, since those guys don’t have the device for nothing. Maybe we’ll learn some specs or see the camera UI this time!

Smartphone Users Prefer Bigger Screens, According to Kantar Study

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 11:11 AM PDT

While the recent trend of launching big screen smartphones probably made you figure out that they’re popular or they will be, now there’s study showing that people actually want bigger screens. Kantar Worldpanel ComTech performed a big study, regarding this matter and the results can be seen below.

Among the Android phones sold over the past 3 months in 8 countries, 29% of them had a screen bigger than 4.5 inches. Owners were also more active than those with smaller screen devices, using the Internet and watching videos more often than people with modest screens. Android has a market share of over 50% of the market, with 46.8% in Brazil and a huge 86.8% in Spain. In Europe the market share increase by over a fifth from 2011. iOS is taking a solid punch outside the US, its last bastion.

Of course, people have been holding on to their wallets and waiting for the iPhone 5, so we may be able to judge the screen diagonal purchase scheme better two months after the new iPhone is out. Windows Phone hot sellers could also switch the balance back to the smaller devices…

LG Intuition 4G LTE Coming to Verizon on September 6th – Fresh Phablet in Town!

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 08:20 AM PDT

Verizon Wireless is preparing the debut of the LG Intuition 4G LTE phablet a couple of days earlier than predicted. Previously we knew that the product was coming on September 15th, judging by the date shown on the phone’s home screen, but now there’s a new report pointing towards the date of September 6.

This Galaxy Note rival will get 4G LTE connectivity and it will be available on Verizon. Leaked internal documents say that retail channels will offer the product on September 10. Internationally available as the LG Optimus Vu, this 5 inch device has its own stylus, a dual core Snapdragon S3 processor, 8 megapixel rear camera and front facing camera. It’s got a 4:3 aspect ratio and a squared design, that always made it stand out from the competition and started the design trend of all recent LG devices.

I would have expected better specs from this model, but it was announced in February after all. Meanwhile, LG announced recently the LG Optimus Vu II, with infrared sensor and remote control app. Samsung also has the Galaxy Note II ready to arrive, so the phablet market is busy enough for you to skip or ignore the Intuition 4G LTE, I guess.

Motorola DROID RAZR V – White for China Mobile Shows Up On Video

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 06:51 AM PDT

The Motorola RAZR V resembles the original International series with its angular face, Kevlar back and chrome accents. It is also about 5mm narrower than the RAZR and it feels much more comfortable in the hand as a result. This device has been available in the market for some time now as a carrier exclusive offering. It comes, at least until now, only in black.

Motorola DROID RAZR V - White for China Mobile Shows Up On Video

ePrice have gotten their hands on a brand new RAZR V variant that comes in white and is to support the TD-SCDMA network standard. TD-SCDMA is a 3G standard China Mobile launched in the mainland exclusively worldwide. At the moment the device offering for the TD-SCDMA (also referred to as TD-3G) network standard is very limited with the Motorola RAZR V TD-3G version coming in the very near future. As you can see in the video, the device wears the trademark of the China Mobile 3G services and on the side there stands written “Motorola Confidential Restricted Property Not For Sale”.

China Mobile Hong Kong will offer their clients 4G, 3G and 2G GSM network plans. The 3G and 4G service plans will be based on the TD 3G network Internet standard. For the 2G consumers charges will relate to $0.1/KB with a maximum daily limit of $38. The TD-3G Internet speed is only 2.8Mbps while on the 2G network clients cam benefit from the improved EDGE transfer rates. The Motorola RAZR V TD-3G comes with a microSIM card slot and it runs Android ICS out of the box. We expect the rest of the specifications are the same, with a Dual-core 1.2 GHz Ti-OMAP chipset and 8 MP rear camera. No word about availability on the Asian market as of yet.

Microsoft Surface Phone Spotted in Benchmarks, With WP8 on Board

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 06:24 AM PDT

If Microsoft Surface Tablet upset the OEM partners of the Redmond giant, especially Acer, imagine what a Surface Phone would trigger. While the Surface Tablet was a breath of fresh air in the current world of tablet designs, the new Surface Phone has to work very hard to impress us. That is if it’s real anyway… for now it’s just a leak in a benchmark.

A device under the name Surface Phone (codename) with Windows Phone 8 on board appeared on the WP benchmark WP Bench. I imagine that Nokia would be particularly angry about this, since they’re the “teacher’s pet” here, so to say. They must’ve also felt frustrated that Samsung, the biggest Android phone seller was actually the first partner to unveil a Windows Phone 8 device. If Nokia has a backup plan, Jolla, why wouldn’t Microsoft have one? Anyway, I see the Surface Phone as some sort of Nexus model, always first in line for updates and offering future generations of technologies.

If Surface Phone is real, I aspect Microsoft’s hardware partners to be even more alienated and leave the pack at some point. Of course, this merely a rumor, so it could be fake, but part of me wants it to be real, especially if the smartphone looks like the mockup below:

Quad Core Samsung Galaxy S III 4G Coming to Optus and Telstra, Available With Android 4.1 From the Start!

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 01:41 AM PDT

Samsung’s latest flagship, the Galaxy S III 4G is coming to Australia and it not only brings the latest type of connectivity, but also the latest software: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The 4.8 inch quad core smartphone is coming via Optus and Telstra, the biggest players on the Australian market.

It will reach Telstra in October and it will grace the Optus freshly launched LTE network with its presence this month. It’s interesting to see Exynos and LTE setup here, know that for example the US LTE version replaced the quad core Exynos CPU with a Snapdragon S4 dual core one. The device will be available in grey and black on Telstra and white and blue on Optus. I’m curios if this version gets 2GB or 1GB of RAM, although I have a feeling it’s the former.

From what I can see on the Optus site, you can get the phone with a $30 plan for 24 months and either pay $504 outright for the quad core handset or $21 monthly just for it. The carrier also promises free delivery and next day delivery.
