Sharp Aquos SH930W 1080p Screen Handset With Midrange Features Gets Reviewed Early

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 10:55 AM PST

We’ve being invaded by 1080p handsets it seems… Back in 2011 there were about two 720p screen handsets around this time of the year and now I can already count about 5 models with 5 inch Full HD screens ready to come out on the market. One of them is the Sharp Aquos SH930W, a midrange 1080p display handset, that has been reviewed early by the folks of Mobile Review.

We’re dealing here with a device that packs 32 GB of storage, no microSD card slot and the reason to call it midrange is the CPU: a dual core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S3 chipset. LTE is also dropped, since Sharp is trying to cut the cost here. SH930W is supposed to debut in Russia first, with a price adapted to the local market. It will debut there in late November for about $694, which is probably $100 or $150 less than you’ll pay for any 1080p smartphone at the end of 2012.

The tests done by Mobile Review reveal that the handset’s display and the underpowered CPU don’t work very well together. Apparently, the phone chokes in 1080p video playback and some 3D games. The good battery life is the one praised here and the good camera, plus the price, that’s the conclusion. The design is also pretty pleasant and the 8 megapixel camera samples are actually good, as shown in the full review in our source link below.

Meizu MX2 Leaks in Live Pics Ahead of November 27th Debut; Press Invite Also Pictured

Meizu MX2 is one of the most interesting smartphones from China of the 2012 end. Meizu has a reputation for building above average iPhone clones with Android and also with pretty good designs. And now finally we get a picture of the Meizu MX2, having a glimpse into the future of the company behind this device.

The one above is a live pic of the handset, that actually looks like some futuristic iPhone 5 concepts I’ve seen. Below you can see the special invitations to the Meizu press event from November 27th, where they’ll unveil the MX2. The invitation includes a box just like the one of the phone and a transparent piece of plastic or glass that’s about the size and shape of the handset. Meizu MX2 is rumored to adopt a 16:10 aspect ratio, a 4.4 inch display with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and an ultra narrow bezel.

In the picture above, the device seems to have a sort of edge to edge screen and we also notice the presence of a customized interface, with a Meizu UI on top of Jelly Bean apparently. The MX2 uses on screen software rendered buttons and relies on a skin called Flyme, that looks pretty nice. At the core of the device there should be the quad core CPU on the Galaxy S III, plus 2 GB of RAM.

Huawei W2 Windows Phone 8 Flagship Gets Pictured, Nokia 920T Too

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 08:00 AM PST

Huawei Ascend W1, a midrange Windows Phone 8 device has been leaked and pictured a lot lately, with rumors saying it will debut at CES 2013. Now there’s another Huawei newcomer with Windows Phone on board, also leaked in pictures. I’m talking about the Huawei W2, pictured below and looking very much like a flagship device.

The handset looks like a high end model and it comes with an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash. Sadly the rest of the specs are a mystery, but we can speculate that they include LTE, a 4.3+ inch display with HD resolution, a dual core Snapdragon CPU, at least 16 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a front camera. 1 GB of RAM is also a pretty sure thing, if you ask me. The back seems a little ugly and the handset a little bulky, so I’m not very fond of the design.

We expect the Huawei W2 to be announced at CES 2013 just like the W1 and while the latter should cost $300, I see this newcomer as a $500 product. Another leak took place these days, with the Nokia Lumia 920T, the Chinese version of the Pureview packing Windows Phone hitting the web as the picture at the end of this article. This is the China Mobile version of the handset.
