Meizu is another Chinese manufacturer that has known some growth in popularity due to the launch of solid devices offered at affordable prices while featuring good taste in Android OS customization. With manufacturers going past 720p when it comes to smartphone screen resolution, Meizu is struggling to be among the first to offer a new generation device.

The first Meizu MX handset met with unexpected success and the manufacturer will be sure to make the new MX device worth to be a successor. Meizu MX2 features top specs while the main highlight has to be the 4.4-inch display, offering a screen resolution of 1280×800 at an impressive 347 ppi. It’s not the 440 ppi of the HTC Droid DNA but it is surely something. The device also features a 3.15 mm narrow bezel.

The hardware configuration includes a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 / 32 / 64 GB of storage space, 21 Mbps HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 1,800 mAh non-removable battery. It runs Flyme OS 2.0 on top of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Meizu MX2 will be available in China in mid-December at prices starting from $402 (€310) for the 16 GB variant. The 32 GB variant will go for about $482 or €372 while the 64 GB variant will set you back $643 or €496.

Sharp Aquos Phone Zeta SH-02E, Their First IGZO Display Handset to Debut on November 29th

Posted: 27 Nov 2012 03:28 AM PST

IGZO display phones seem to be the future and they have everything on their side, from low power consumption to high brightness. Although at first glance Sharp’s brand new Aquos Phone Zeta SH-02E handset may look like a premiere, the handset is actually a second IGZO display phone, following the ASUS PadFone 2.

The new Aquos model will debut on November 29th, apparently and it will be Sharp’s first IGZO device. Sharp is usually known for making displays for other bigshots, but this time they’re taking matter into their own hands and creating their very own smartphone. Sharp Aquos Phone Zeta SH-02E features a 4.9 inch 720p LCD, Android 4.0, a quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset and a 16 megapixel camera, plus LTE.

The price is still a mystery, but I’m sure it’s pretty high. Odds are also pretty big that this product will never leave Japan. For those of you not familiar with IGZO technology, know that Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (IGZO) is a semiconducting material, that can be used as a channel for a transparent transistor, one based on thin film. The result is a replacement for the amorphous silicon in the active layer of a LCD screen, creating smaller pixels and higher speed reaction for the screen.
