Video: Nokia Lumia 822 for Verizon hands-on with CNet

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 02:06 PM PDT

Here’s CNet with a hands on of the Nokia Lumia 822 for Verizon.

I like how it’s mentioned that ‘because it’s Nokia, it will have Wireless charging’, like it’s a Nokia thing now :p.

It looks like an arty retro C7.

Nokia Music Updated; Brings New UI Changes & Support for Lumia 510

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 12:23 PM PDT

Nokia has just received a general update for the Lumia 820 & 920 (I assume all Windows Phone 8 devices in general); bringing with it some new UI changes besides the previous set of features added in the last update (Gig finder, social sharing, equalizer); the UI changes are as follows:

Once you play a track, if you side swipe then you get:

  • Artist bio
  • Official tweets
  • Images
  • Tour dates
  • Mixes where that artist is featured
  • Ability to "Create" a playlist based on that artist

Those UI changes are pretty nifty, keeping you in the loop with your favorite artists (also I can’t recall ever seeing a feature like that before, so kudos to Nokia). In the upgrade as well (of the WP 7.5 version) was compatibility support for the low end Lumia 510.

WP7.8 Update Confirmed as “Shortly After WP8 Devices Released” -Bring Rooms and Xbox Music as Well

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 11:44 AM PDT

Windows Phone Italy have been helpful enough to share some information about the rollout of WP7.8 for the current range of WP devices:

The upgrade to 7.8 will be available for versions 7.0 and 7.5 shortly after the marketing of the devices Windows Phone 8.
Among the features there is the new Start screen , the sharing of the calendar using the function Club and ' access to key services and content Microsoft, including Xbox Music Store library that can be enjoyed by Zune and Xbox SmartGlass .
Continue to follow us for all other news!

Interestingly the update will also contain the new “rooms” feature, so early adopters haven’t been completely left out in the cold; this along with the confirmed BT File transfer and other features exclusive to Lumia devices should make for a decent upgrade.

Lumia 920 & 820 Priced at $630/$490 in UAE- Available November 15th

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 10:02 AM PDT

The folks over at WPCentral received the official pricings from the Nokia stores in Abu Dabhi and are reportedly:

  • The Nokia Lumia 920 will be available by the 15′th November latest coming at a price of Dh2349 (that’s $639).
  • The Nokia Lumia 820 will also be available by the 15′th and will be at a price of Dh1800 (that’s $490).

Further more we’ve heard to expect similar pricings for the devices in the MEA & LEVANT region; also keep in mind that most of these regions never saw the initial line of Lumias due to lack of language support  meaning the last time they saw such a beautiful design was almost two years ago with N9, I think the market’s primed and ready to go.

Nokia Lumia 920 low light untouchable (vs HTC Lumiawannabe 8X)

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 08:54 AM PDT

It’s a shame that for all that extra lightness in weight all you get is an emptier pocket. When you whip out your Nokia Lumia 920 and it’s low light, you’re sure to get that picture in. What’s the point in getting the KIRF?

https://twitter.com/vladsavov/status/263666462324031488

The above was tweeted by Vlad Savov from the Verge. He says the 920 is untouchable in low light. Note that the WP 8X from HTCrap is supposedly great in low light. Well, it might be like how my little cousin is pretty good at football for a toddler but is obviously not a Pro.

Thanks @chilko for the tip!

Video: Learn more on the 4G LTE technology on the new Nokia Lumia 820 and Lumia 920

Posted: 31 Oct 2012 08:47 AM PDT

Somewhat of an educational video with Nokia talking about 4G LTE on the Nokia Lumia 820 and 920.

What are 4G/LTE networks and what are they good for? How can you benefit from the fast data speeds? Timo Joutsenvirta from Nokia talks about the very essential about 4G/LTE networks.

Two bits of news worth sharing one post.

First up, we hear that the Nokia Lumia 920 is coming to the UK from the 2nd of November with four colours at launch. Phew!

Black, White, Red and Yellow will be available, through EE, T-Mobile/Orange, and Phones4U. We learnt yesterday that EE/T-Mobile/Orange will have Black and White, whilst Phones4U get the Red and Yellow. Looks like I’m going to Phones4U for my shiny yellow 920 :D .

The 820 is said to appear on the 7th.
