Posted: 14 Aug 2012 02:22 PM PDT Apple’s soap opera-style trial versus Samsung continues this week as well, this time with Apple resting its case against the Asian company today. That came after a financial expert claimed that the Cupertino giant may have lost up to 2 million device sales, including both iPads and iPhones, all of that because of Samsung’s infringement. The testimony came after last week’s revelation, with Apple asking Samsung for up to $30 per smartphone and $40 per tablet device for licensing of their patents. The report was figured by CPA Terry Musika and in order to reach that amount three aspects were taken into account: how much revenue Samsung brought in with the products involved, royalty fees based on patent infringements and profits that Apple could have had and Samsung did. Overall, Apple may have lost up to $488.8 million in sales. Musika also mentioned that there inconsistencies with Samsung’s data and the taxes that shifted around. When all 3 numbers collide you get a total damages estimation of $2.5 billion to $2.75 billion. Following Apple’s resting of case, Samsung’s team asked the famous judge Lucy Koh to give Sammy a judgement based on the idea that Apple failed to prove its point. She denied the request, but she did say something good for the Asians: Galaxy S, Galaxy S II and Galaxy Ace, the international versions are excluded from the trial, so they’re not considered as infringing on the patents. BlackBerry Bold 9730 Leaked Accidentally by RIM, Apparently Just an Error Posted: 14 Aug 2012 01:39 PM PDT Yet another PR error in the long series done by RIM has happened during the past 24 hours. The Canadian company leaked a yet unannounced model called BlackBerry Bold 9730, that was in fact a typo of the BlackBerry Curve 9370 unit and in a matter of minutes it became rival online, being taken over by many websites. RIM listed the new device on the App World Vendor Portal, but didn’t disclose any extra info. At first it was believed that the BlackBerry 9730 was the CDMA version of the Bold 9790, but once again it was a mere typo. Just for the sake of recap, let’s see some of the other PR mistakes that RIM did over the past year: - two RIM officials were caught drunk in a plane, made a scandal, got arrested This all adds up to a pretty rattled PR image of the company, that one could believe is actually sabotaged to be bought for a lower price, if you’re to believe paranoid speculations. What’s next? Going bankrupt or maybe some work accident? Related posts: |
Samsung Galaxy Note II Pictured Spotted, Specs Too and Galaxy S III Jelly Bean Update News! Posted: 14 Aug 2012 10:57 AM PDT There’s a source over at GSMArena.com claiming he has a great scoop on the Galaxy Note II, including specs, a picture and even some inside info on the time of the update of the Galaxy S III to Jelly Bean. We’re waiting for the N7100 Galaxy Note II to be launched in about two weeks, during the IFA 2012 event in Berlin. Now we have an alleged photo of the device, pictured above and just like previous rumors said, it resembles the Galaxy S III quite a bit. The tipster says that this is an official press image, but it looks pretty rough to me, to be honest. Anyway we also get some specs, that include a 5.5 inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. The screen is supposed to use a regular RGB matrix and previously Samsung was rumored to be testing a Full HD screen for this device, but they gave that up because of the strain it put on the battery. Inside the Note II we find the Exynos 4 Quad, the quad core CPU on the Galaxy S III, with 1.5 GHz frequency. The camera is the same 8 megapixel sensor as the one on the Galaxy S III. Jelly Bean is also rumored to be developed for the new Note, so it would be available shortly after its debut. Meanwhile, the same source did give us some good news for Galaxy S III owners: they will get the Jelly Bean update once the Galaxy Note II is announced on the 29th this month. Related posts: |
Sony Prepares Dark Silver Version of the Xperia S; Here’s the First Shot! Posted: 14 Aug 2012 02:24 AM PDT This spring a lot of new handset models were unveiled and since now we’re approaching fall, it’s logical that they would suffer changes and get new color versions. Thus, we have the black Galaxy S III and today we uncover the dark silver version of the Xperia S. The handset is also destined for a slight upgrade, the Xperia SL, that will bump up the CPU and will come at IFA 2012. Sony’s dark silver Xperia S is actually a black/carbon device and it looks quite elegant, as shown in the picture in this article. Sony didn’t reveal when this model would be released, saying that we should keep our eyes peeled. I guess it’s safe to say that in about a month we should see it in stores. The device keeps the same specs as the regular Xperia S, including a 4.3 inch 720p display, a 1.5 GHz dual core processor, 32 GB of internal storage and a 12 megapixel camera with Exmor R technology, plus Android 4.0 ICS. Sony Xperia S was a bit of a disappointment, because of its camera that we expected to be better and its capacitive keys that were hard to press considering we had to guess where they’re placed exactly. I hope they solved at least the camera issues, like autofocus delay and slow gallery loading. Related posts: |
iPhone 5 Preorders Rumored to Debut on September 12th, Shipping in October Posted: 14 Aug 2012 01:22 AM PDT We’re less than a month away from the rumored 12th September debut of the iPhone 5 and now we also have some details about its arrival in stores, shipments and preorders. As usual, we advise you to take the info with a big old grain of salt. This sixth generation Apple handset is supposed to go live on preorder on the same date it’s announced, meaning September 12th. Previously it has been rumored that Apple wanted 21st September as the day of release in stores and this idea could be followed through after all. If the preorder on 12th September thing is true, expect Apple servers to crack on that day, due to a huge number of accesses. There’s also an information about a secondary wave of sales to the wider international market in early October. So international customers could get their hands on the bigger screen iPhone as soon as October 5th, if the sources are accurate. Not sure what countries are included in the first wave of rollout, but the UK, France, Germany and Italy are a safe bet. Meanwhile, we’ve yet to find out what CPU this device has or what camera sensor, while the rest of specs have pretty much leaked out in recent weeks. Will you buy the iPhone 5? Related posts:
