LG Motion 4G is a MetroPCS VoLTE Handset, That’s Both Cheap and Good

Posted: 22 Aug 2012 04:14 AM PDT

MetroPCS is famous for being a contract free carrier and now they have a new and interesting handset for you: the LG Motion 4G. MetroPCS is the first Voice over LTE network in the US, that’s what makes it so interesting. They launched the feature a few weeks ago, but the rollout has been limited so far, with no clear devices supporting it. Now we have one: LG Motion 4G.

LG Motion 4G packs a 1.2 GHz processor, most likely a single core one, a 5 megapixel camera with 1080p capture and a 3.5 inch touchscreen. It’s also the first smartphone on MetroPCS to run Android 4.0 ICS. For $149 you can get this handset with VoLTE, Android 4.0 and unlimited everything on the carrier, for a pretty big (if you ask me) $55 a month. Apparently this is a limited offer.

I’ve seen quite a bunch of LTE/4G midrange devices lately and with technology evolving the way it does, soon we’ll have low end phones with the latest connectivity, as the big smartphones prepare for the next evolution in connectivity, 5G or whatever they will call it. You should know that the LG Motion 4G does simultaneous voice and data on 4G LTE and it gets the LG QuickMemo feature, that allows users to personalize their messages and share comments on a wide range of content including sites, magazines and more with a single swipe.

Improved Galaxy Nexus Details Leak; Update is Minor: 8MP Camera, Better CPU, Better Front Cam

Posted: 22 Aug 2012 03:03 AM PDT

Since rumors about the new and improved Galaxy S II Plus leaked online, why wouldn’t Samsung also updated the Galaxy Nexus? This is exactly what leaked online now, an enhanced version of the Nexus, that was discovered in a comparative spec sheet courtesy of SamMobile. The current GSM Galaxy Nexus is the GT-I9250, that will be replaced by the GT-I9260 codenamed Superior.

The display stays at 4.65 inches and it’s still a Super AMOLED one, but this time the processor is bumped from 1.2 GHz to 1.5GHz, while the camera is an 8MP one instead of the 5MP shooter. Also, the front camera goes from 1.3MP to 1.9 MP this time. Apparently there will also be a microSD card slot on board, although that seems pretty unlikely if you ask me. With the Galaxy Nexus released in November last year, it’s time for a follow-up and hopefully it will be greater than a specs bump.

I particularly liked the speculation that Google was going to unveil 5 Nexus phones made by different hardware partners this Fall, when they celebrate the years of existence of Android. Excited about the new Nexus? Will it cannibalize Galaxy S III sales?

Acer Unveils Liquid Gallant, Liquid Gallant Duo Handsets Ahead of IFA 2012

Posted: 22 Aug 2012 02:10 AM PDT

Acer will also take part in IFA 2012, not only Sony and its new Xperias, or Samsung and its Galaxy Note II. Acer just unveiled two of the handsets that it will bring to Berlin, the Liquid Gallant and Liquid Gallant Duo. The Duo is actually the dual SIM version of the first model, that has some midrange specs, detailed below.

We’re dealing with a handset that offers a 1 GHz MT6575 processor, a 4.3 inch qHD capacitive display, 1 GB of RAM and a 5 megapixel camera. WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and a microSD card slot complete the specs. The Duo will come in September, followed by the single SIM brother soon after. Both will be available in Gentle Black and Ceramic White. These units run Android 4.0.4 with Acer applying some customizations, in the unlock screen, notification area and keyboard.

The 5MP camera has a LED flash, automatic smile detection, rich details and panoramic abilities. The Gallant handsets will also come with Surround Sound, for an excellent audio experience.

Sony Xperia J Gets Hands on Treatment Ahead of IFA Announcement

Posted: 22 Aug 2012 01:50 AM PDT

The very lucky guys of Mobile Review have had some quality time with the yet unannounced Sony Xperia J, that they took for a spin ahead of its IFA announcement next week. The Xperia J is supposed to be an entry level device, with 3 capacitive buttons, native Ice Cream Sandwich and a 4 inch display.

The handset offers a 1 GHz Snapdragon MSM7227a processor, 512 MB of RAM, a 5 megapixel camera and a 4 inch 854 x 480 pixel display. We’re dealing with an elongated phone here, that will arrive in a variety of colors. This model is very similar to the Sony LT30p Mint, but it uses cheaper materials and gets rids of some of the higher end features. Mobile Review calls the device “well built” and says that the screen is comfortable for most users and applications. Sadly the display settings don’t impress and viewing angles are underwhelming.

Also, the screen is not too bright and suffers from glare. The battery is a 1700 mAh unit, that gives you about a day of heavy use, apparently. With moderate use, it can even reach two days. It’s a pity we have only 512MB of RAM, with only 380 MB available after loading and at least 170 MB used constantly for various tasks. You’ll learn more in the preview here.

Oppo Find 5 X909, the Thinnest Quad Core Phone

Posted: 22 Aug 2012 01:01 AM PDT

Oppo is a Chinese company famous for making the thinnest phone on the market and now they have a new product. Called the Oppo Find5 X909, this device is the thinnest quad core smartphone in the world and also one of the thinnest overall, with a thickness of only 6.9 mm.

It will rely on a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor and run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Oppo Find5 X909 features a 4.5 inch HD touchscreen, a 12 megapixel camera at the back and a 2 megapixel shooter at the front. We also have 2 GB of RAM, 16/32GB of storage and a 2500 mAh battery. No idea when the announcement of the device will happen, but it’s probably pretty close.

Over the past year, the record for the thinnest smartphone has been taken down a bunch of times, first by the Sony Xperia S, then the Motorola Droid RAZR, then the Huawei Ascend P1 S and now the Oppo model. There’s a rumored Huawei device or Acer (not sure), that will take the waistline to less than 6.5 mm.
