MyDreamNokia #60: Double-Sided Meego Nokia 909

Posted: 05 Aug 2012 03:45 PM PDT

Here’s a really cool “dream Nokia” that one of our fans “Moody Caplan” shared on our FaceBook page, it’s basically a double sided phone with two full touch screens on each side that join on the edge, fitted in an N9-esque polycarbonate shell all running a refined Meego with “Swipe 2.0″ that brings new swipe features.

The feautres are as follows:

  • 1.4Ghz Single Core CPU
  • 1Gb Ram
  • 64gb Memory
  • 8mp camera (with Scalado’s Creative studio/Camera extras)
  • Nokia Drive 3.0
  • Two Touch screens (Offers amazing multitasking)
  • Two proximity sensors (3-Axis acceleromter & Gyroscope)
  • Swipe 2.0 (with updated gestures to support both screens)
  • Hydrophobic & Oleophobic nano-coatings (water & oil/finger print resistive)
The concept for this phone is really intriguing, having a second screen offers endless possibilities, especially when paired with the multi-tasking hero, Meego; imagine one of the screens running normally all the time, while the back of the phone has your multi-tasking layout, or perhaps having a music player running on one screen with “Nokia Drive 3.0″ on the other, to avoid switching between tasks while driving; simply flip the phone over. Of course two planes of glass back to back would either mean the phone is slightly obese or the battery is minuscule, but hey it never hurts to Dream.

About "My Dream Nokia"

I'm sure you've dreamt up your PERFECT Nokia device/UI. What it would look like, what it would feel like, what features it would have. Why don't you share it with the world? Or at least with other Nokia fans :D .

It could be your own photoshopped or rendered work (seriously, you don't need mega skills in either, basic paint job is often enough to convey a concept) of your dream product.

SEND this in similarly to tips@mynokiablog.com with the title "My Dream Nokia" and perhaps the model number (and a little description, maybe a few specs in the message area? Though this bit not necessary).

Who knows, maybe an image might flutter over to Nokia and through whatever route end up being real.

Closer Look at Nokia Music/Mix-Radio #NokiaEntertainment

Posted: 05 Aug 2012 02:05 PM PDT

Here for the third (and currently final) installment of the #NokiaEntertainment series, where we take a closer look at the entertainment based apps for Lumia devices, previously we covered Nokia TV as well as Nokia Reading; today we’ll be taking a peek at the grad daddy of all entertainment apps, Nokia Music. From the times of Symbian Nokia has always offered some sort of awesome music service, the most memorable of which could be the “Comes With Music” which gave some phones unlimited music downloads from the Ovi Music store, times have changed and although some phones are still sold with the Comes With Music the latest awesome music service comes in the form of Nokia Music for WP (Lumia Exclusive).

Nokia Music is a huge app which has more built in functions than most dedicated music players on other OSes, the store in Nokai Music is stocked with everything you could want, and best of all any track you download is DRM free, so feel free to sync it up to your iPod later. The cooler half of Nokia music lies in mix radio itself, the radio enables user customizable mixes (AKA: Playlists) that can be downloaded for offline playing, users can choose their Mix either by their favorite artists or from a list of pre-made mixes depending on their mood; best of all it’s all free (you don’t even need an account!).

*Note: previous credit from ovi Music should be available on your Nokia Music account. :D

Lumiappaday #264: Urban Dictionary demoed on the Nokia Lumia 900

Posted: 05 Aug 2012 12:35 PM PDT

Urban Dictionary is a site for colloquial/slang words/phrases. This is that site in app form.

It’s useful for searching unusual terminology that won’t appear yet on traditional dictionaries (such as internet terminology), or known terminology with more ‘humorous’ definitions submitted by users.

Urban Dictionary 7 is a Windows Phone application that lets you browse the content of the UrbanDictionary.com site. That site collects definitions for various slang, pop-culture and “internet” terms.

Also, enjoy “Urban Zen” – an almost hypnotic slideshow of dictionary terms and images.

Urban Dictionary 7 is unoffcial – it is not affiliated with the UrbanDictionary.com site.

Videos: Nokia Asha 311 Unboxing & Full Review

Posted: 05 Aug 2012 04:46 AM PDT

Here we have for you two videos by Dr Tech0logy (no, I didn’t misspell technology) featuring the Asha 311. I recently saw that this is available in Australia and I am considering getting it, solely for the fact it has inherited (in a way) Swipe. Anyway, enough from me, here are the videos:

I really like that Nokia are bringing some of the higher end stuff to the Asha range. I also like having the badges on icons, like on iOS.

If you have the Asha 311, or any of the full touch Asha devices, let us know your experiences below.

Cheers Glenn for the tip!

MyDreamNokia #59: Nokia Surface Phone WP8 Concept

Posted: 04 Aug 2012 11:20 PM PDT

Another intriguing design by Jonas-Daehnert. This wasn’t meant to be a MDN Sunday, but whilst we’re talking about it, let’s get it over with.

It’s blocky rectangles again, yet it works with the rectangles and squares of the homescreen.

It somehow reminds me a little of that blocky little WP8 Nokia shown at the WP8 launch, no?

Based on the last very rectangular design in number 56, you guys liked the look but thought it might be uncomfortable to hold what with all those sharp corners. This does at least look to have slightly curved corners.

Jonas said:

This (last pic) is the final concept of the ‘Surface Phone’. The whole concept is inspired by the Surface Tablet.

I hope Microsoft is planning a Surface Phone. Later this year I will definetely buy the Surface-Pro!

Modeled completely in 3D. Rendered in Cycles.

Well about the specs: I don’t really care about the specs. Maybe there is working a Quadcore in it – 2GB of Ram – 32-64Gb Storage – Display 1280×768 – 16MPx, FullHD Camera and so on…

MyDreamNokia #58: Classy, slim, aluminium WP8 Lumia 910 concept

Posted: 04 Aug 2012 11:00 PM PDT

More MDN tips that seem to have gotten missed (Cheers Jules!) This one is by Jonas-Daehnert, who has produced some of the classiest looking designs featured at MDN.

This is a simple, elegant design with hints of N9/Lumia.

A little teaser of the new 910 concept. It’s not done.
4.3′ screen without a black screen frame.
Remarkable thin 6.8mm and very compact.
The body consists of aluminum.
I don’t care about the other specs.
Pure View is a cool technology, but at the moment it looks really ugly.

Maybe the next evolution of the Lumia Design Language?

Cheers Jules for the tip!
