Xiaomi Phone 2 Features Quad Core Krait CPU, 4.3 Inch 720p IPS Display and Jelly Bean Posted: 16 Aug 2012 07:15 AM PDT Xiaomi is a Chinese company that became famous in the international media after launching its very own Android smartphone in Fall 2011. That company is the one behind MIUI, a custom firmware for mobile handsets, based on Android. Now they’re ready for a repeat success, announcing the Xiaomi Phone 2, with a quad core processor. Xiaomi Phone 2 was made official during an event in Beijing this week and it’s supposed to pack a 4.3 inch 720p IPS display and a quad core Qualcomm processor. The device is surprisingly enough powered by Qualcomm’s hottest and latest chip, the APQ8064, a quad core 28 nm SoC solution at 1.5 GHz. The company showed off benchmarks using AnTuTu and Quadrant and scored amazing results: 14085 and 7787 respectively. We also get 2GB of RAM on this monster smartphone and 16GB of storage. The 4.3 inch display will be made by Sharp, with a pixel density of 342 PPI, beating the iPhone 4S, HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III. An 8 megapixel camera with backside illuminated sensor sits at the back and a two megapixel shooter is present at the front. The main camera does 1080p 30 fps video recording or 720p at an impressive 90 FPS. The standard version of the phone uses a 2,000 mAh battery, while there’s also a superior one, with a 3,000 mAh battery option. The device with the custom software MIUI, obviously, this time on top of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The price tag for this model is an incredible $314 without contract. Lower prices may be applied by carriers. Related posts: |
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Bezel Pictured, Measured to Reveal 5.5 Inch Diagonal Posted: 16 Aug 2012 04:17 AM PDT Two days ago we found out some specs related to the Galaxy Note II and the fact that it will have a 5.5 inch diagonal and 1280 x 800 pixel display. Now we have one more leak, that reveals a picture of the bezel/frame of the device’s screen, measured at 5.5 inches in diagonal. What we see here is a squared design, a surprise since we’ve heard that this device would actually be rounded like the Galaxy S III. Basically we’re expecting a larger S III, with the same CPU and camera and I actually like the idea of a squared device, as opposed to a rounded one. There’s still the possibility to add an outer case layer that would make the device curved on the sides, something I wouldn’t dig. I have to remind those of you who wanted a superior screen that Samsung actually tested a Full HD panel and found it to be too energy consuming. Galaxy Note II remains scheduled for an August 29th unveiling during the Unpacked IFA 2012 show and I’m stoked to see what else they showcase. Maybe that quad core 11 inch Retina Display Samsung tablet? In the meantime let’s see if get a hands on leaked video with the Note II ahead of the launch… Related posts: |
Samsung Galaxy S III Jelly Bean Build Leaks, Caught on Camera (Video) Posted: 16 Aug 2012 03:20 AM PDT Just two days ago we found out that the Samsung Galaxy Note II would be launched at the end of the month and with it we’ll also witness the arrival of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy S III. No we get a video of said release running on the famous quad core phone, with all the improvements it brings. This is build i9300XADLG4. There’s no fake or treachery here, this is the real deal and Jelly Bean is indeed running on the Galaxy S III. Google Now is probably the most appealing thing you get here, making S Voice seem really obsolete. Galaxy S III runs Android 4.1.1 in this video and gives you a revamped notification bar, with new actions like instant sharing for screenshots and expanded notifications, that allow you to see more of the thing you’re notified about. There’s also the speed increase, bringing the function of the OS to 60 FPS as Google itself claims. As you probably know already, Android 4.1 JB doesn’t bring as much extra from ICS as Android 4.0 brought for Gingerbread users. This is why we’re getting it relatively early after its announcement at the end of June. Expect further updates to come in the following month or so and enjoy the hands on video below. Nokia and Microsoft Send Out Invitations to September 5th Windows Phone Event Posted: 16 Aug 2012 01:57 AM PDT We knew that something was cooking for early September 2012, as far as Nokia is concerned and now we get some official invitations to confirm that suspicion. It appears that Nokia and Microsoft have sent out invites to journalists and people close to the matter to an event based on Windows Phone, taking place on September 5th. As a coincidence (or maybe not), that’s the same day as the Nokia World debut, so we’re bound to see some new Lumias appearing. Rumors have been abundant over the past months and leaks too, as everyone dreams about a Lumia phone with a Pureview camera. The invite has a pretty big reference to Nokia Maps, but I’m sure there’s also some Lumia love to be shown. Nokia is expected to announce its lineup of Windows Phone 8 devices and maybe some new Asha series handsets, too, just like last year. Also, we could see a first Jolla OS smartphone and maybe a Windows 8 tablet from the Finns. At least a dual core HD display Nokia phone with WP8 would be good to see and hopefully they won’t recycle the N9 design yet again… Related posts: |
