Jelly Bean Updates for Samsung Galaxy S III, S II, Note and Note II Detailed Posted: 06 Aug 2012 08:58 AM PDT The folks of sammobile.com have a big inside scoop on the upcoming updates to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, coming for the likes of Samsung Galaxy S III, S II, Note and Note II. The Galaxy S II is the controversial one of the bunch, since it was rumored not to get this update, strange as that may seem. As far as Samsung Galaxy S III goes, the test firmwares for it are passed and now Samsung is working on a public version of the first Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S III. The only reason to wait is for the public version to come and the agreement from Google. Galaxy S II is in testing phase for Android 4.1 and the first tests are looking OK. Seeing that this model sold and still sells very well, there’s all the reason to do the update. In case Samsung decides to skip a Jelly Bean update, you should expect a Value Pack here. The Galaxy Note goes through the same thing as the Galaxy S II, with the tests being fine, but no official word coming out of Samsung. The Note II is expected to be shown at IFA 2012, its test software based on Android 4.0 and insiders not sure if Sammy will launch the new note with Android 4.0 or 4.1… In case it does launch with Ice Cream Sandwich, updates should come in a couple of months. Rumored time frames are end Q3/being Q4 for Galaxy S III and Q4 for Galaxy Note, S II and Note II. Tablets are still a mystery and this is all suppositions and analysis right now. Related posts: |
Posted: 06 Aug 2012 05:52 AM PDT Nokia intends to announce new Windows Phone 8 device pertaining to the Lumia series during the Nokia World event, that takes place early next month. The aim here is to unveil the new Lumia phones ahead of the September 12th rumored debut of the new iPhone. Also, the new Lumias are supposed to go on sale before the year end holiday season. The thing is that right now Nokia’s Lumia devices don’t have enough presence in stores, or so it appears in a recent piece on Bloomberg. They quote a former Nokia customer who has a hard time finding new WP devices in stores, since AT&T and other carriers and retailers promote the iPhone and Android devices much more. In order to become cool again, Nokia needs a huge promotion, but they’re already getting that, since we’ve written multiple times about the hundreds of millions of dollars in marketing expenses for the Lumia series, coming from AT&T, Nokia and Microsoft. In order to increase the sales of Nokia Windows Phone units, Nokia gathered hundreds of volunteers from its group of US employees and placed them alongside salesmen at carriers. This group is dubbed the Nokia Army and they’re meant to educate consumers and staff about the potential of Lumia devices and how they can be alternatives to Android and iOS. Nokia sees the US as a market needed to win the entire global market on your side. Will the new Lumias be able to increase the 2% of smartphone purchases that Nokia stands for in USA right now? MediaTek Preparing Quad Core Chipsets for Smartphones, Debuting in Q1 Next Year Posted: 06 Aug 2012 01:26 AM PDT It appears that during this war between Qualcomm and Nvidia and… Intel, there are several names you should look into when thinking about mobile device CPUs. One of them is MediaTek, that is now expected to debut a slew of new processors over the following months. They also have a quad core chip in the making and it will be ready in the first quarter of 2013, according to rumors. Chinese language publication Liberty Times confirms that and says that the new chip is the MediaTek MT6588, that will feature a quad core 1.5 GHz or 1.7 GHz Cortex A7 CPU, with support for WCDMA and TD-SCDMA technologies. The MT6588 supports a 13 megapixel camera, 1080p video playback and a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels for the display. The chip is built on the 28nm process, so it’s as modern as it gets. MediaTek is also preparing a 28nm dual core solution, the MT6583. This one will be launched in the same quarter and run at 1.5 GHz or 1. GHz. It will offer support for a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels and targets a cheaper segment of the market. Does this mean that in 2013 we’ll see cheap quad core phones? Maybe! Related posts: |
