Video: Nokia Counter & Contact Share Demoed on Lumia 900 Posted: 30 Jul 2012 01:08 PM PDT Now that Nokia have pushed out all the official apps promised at the developers summit last month (Camera extras, Contact share, Counters, Play To); here’s a video demoing the latest of these releases (Contact share & Counter): Unfortunately Contact share doesn’t support sending the Vcard over Bluetooth as of yet, hopefully that’ll come soon; and since the counter is still in the beta phase there are some features missing, officially they are:
anyways here’re the respective QR codes, get downloading. *Note: It would appear that Tango (for the Lumia 800 & 710) as well as the post-Tango (for the 900 & 610- the update that brought “Flip-to-silence) are required for these apps to run. Counter: Contact Transfer:

Lumiappaday #258: Fishing Girl demoed on the Nokia Lumia 900 Posted: 30 Jul 2012 12:41 PM PDT Fishing Girl is a game where you partake in some relaxing fishing. I didn’t realise that’s what it was for until I read the blurb. There’s no goals as such other than completing some of the bonus requests and upgrading your line/lures. There’s minor skill involved in casting out your line, getting the right catch and then reeling in the line at the right speed so it doesn’t break. Nice free app. #258) Fishing Girl

Nokia Counters App for WP Available at Beta Labs Posted: 30 Jul 2012 10:55 AM PDT The final app from those promised by Nokia at the WP summit has just been released at the beta labs, Counters app tracks your Data, Messaging and phone consumption and alerts you once you’ve gone over the limit. As the app is still a beta it doesn’t support fractional data limits (1.5 GB) or pinning a specific counter the start screen; none the less it’s a pretty useful app so go get it guys.

Video: 18 Minute video review of Nokia Asha 306 Posted: 30 Jul 2012 01:36 AM PDT Someone who calls themselves ‘Dr Technology’ has published their video review of the Nokia Asha 306 (Full Touch S40) on YouTube. We’ve shown you their unboxing some time ago so it’ll be interesting to see how they found using the 306. Note, Asha full touch S40 is an even nicer experience on the capacitive screened 311. This helps the feel of being responsive. Swipes should be feather light and resistive screens make this difficult. by DrTech0logy |
Video: Screenshots demo on WP8 Posted: 30 Jul 2012 12:38 AM PDT A couple of weeks back we heard that WP8 would have screenshot capability. This is neither something new or innovative, but since it’s been highly requested, it was worth sharing this information to those who care about such features. If you don’t, well let’s press that back button . Below you can see this implementation in WP8. I do like that there’s a separate albums folder for screenshots instead of them getting bundled in with images you’ve downloaded or taken with the camera. The video shows a WP8 emulator. To take a screenshot, press the windows+camera key. It’s nice that this is built-in vs standalone app. It would have been nice if we could have at least got screenshot functionality from an app like Symbian in WP7 as opposed to having to go through the complicated Dev-Unlock route. by WP7App |

Apple Shows Off 2005 iPhone Prototype “Purple”, Proves It Didn’t Copy Sony Posted: 30 Jul 2012 04:52 AM PDT Last week Apple hit the news and this time it wasn’t because of the iPhone 5 or iPad Mini leaks, but instead the official documents that show pics of older iPad and iPhone prototypes. Some of the iPhones were believed to resemble the older Sony devices, so people started criticizing the Cupertino giant. However, they came out today and proved them wrong. It appears that Apple and a phone prototype called “Purple” made back in 2005, as shown in the image above. It has several resemblances to the OG iPhone and the Sony-styled devices came later, but just as enjoyable side projects, as they’re called by Apple. I seem to recall that at some point a designer/engineer close to Apple went ahead and said that they did actually borrow some design elements from Sony. It’s also very interesting that one of the older iPhone concepts resembles the Nokia N9 quite a bit, or better said… the other way around. Anyway, I don’t expect Sony to press charges anytime soon, since they’ve never been the lawsuit type, at least not the phone making division. Also, it’s known that Sony and Apple were very close in the past, with Steve Jobs finding inspiration in Sony’s business when he took Apple to the heights of technology. The whole turtleneck thing and outfit was something he borrowed from a former Sony boss, as well as the business model, so Sony is credited with more than some random iPhone designs here. Motorola and Nextel Brazil Unveil the Motorola i867 Ferrari Phone Posted: 30 Jul 2012 02:08 AM PDT If you’re a Ferrari fan and live in Brazil, you may want to know that Motorola and Nextel teamed up and came up with a Ferrari phone. This is not their first attempt at this, since they already have the Motorola i897 model with Ferrari branding. Now there’s a new Ferrari-inspired device called Motorola i867 Ferrari. The handset runs Android 2.1, so it’s not your average high end luxury phone, but rather a lower end device. We’re dealing with a handset that sports a 3.1 inch touchscreen, integrated GPS, integrated WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, a 3 megapixel camera with 4X zoom and push to talk. Other features include 200MB of storage, a microSD card slot and there’s also a 2GB microSD card bundled with the device. In Brazil the product retails for the equivalent of about $700, which is huge. For that kind of money you can buy 3 Nexus 7 quad core tablets and you’ll still have money left. And the price on contract with Nextel Brazil isn’t that good either: around $300. Last I heard, Brazil was the country with the highest phone prices in the world, so this doesn’t surprise me. Sharp Aquos SH-10D Japanese Handset Reaches the FCC, Gets Approved Posted: 30 Jul 2012 01:25 AM PDT NTT DoCoMo had a big batch of phones announced this past May and among them we found the Sharp Aquos SH-10D. Now the handset has reached the FCC and after all the paperwork was done, the product was certified to work in all the nations that can sell it. The device has those strangely angled corners to set it apart design wise. Other than that the specs are pretty good and they include a 11.3mm chassis, Android 4.0.3, a 1.5GHz Snapdragon dual core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of ROM and a 4.5 inch 720p display. The handset is expected to debut in August 2012, according to rumors and it supports GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA and HSUPA connectivity. It also does LTE and has a microSD card slot, as well as a microUSB 2.0 port, Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi b/g/n. As it happens usually with Japanese phones, this model has an infrared port and 1-Seg TV tuner. At the back we find a 12 megapixel camera with autofocus and macro mode, while at the front there’s a 0.3MP camera. Sharp Aquos SH-10D is powered by a 1900 mAh battery. Related posts: |
New Pictures of Next Gen iPhone (Now Fully Assembled) Leak Online (Video) Posted: 30 Jul 2012 01:01 AM PDT We’ve seen our share of iPhone 5 parts, rumors, specs and videos and now we get to see a fully assembled device, that’s ready to be turned on and go to stores. After finding out that the iPhone 5 is already in production in China, now we spot some images of functional new Apple handsets, posted by iLab online. The photos show a black fully assembled next gen iPhone with a separated upper back area, with a different colour from the rest of the handset’s back. The design fits what we already knew and we can see the moved audio jack at the bottom, smaller dock connector and the bigger speaker grilles. Meanwhile Macotakara posted a video of the supposed next gen iPhone and its parts on its YouTube channel and you can watch the said video below. Notice how the front camera is now immediately above the earpiece, just like it was rumored. With all these solid leaks, I’m beginning to think that the new iPhone might actually debut earlier than estimated, which is October/September. Should we expect a surprise debut in August, the month when Galaxy Note II is rumored to pop up? Apple has never been a company keen to surprise, when it comes to launch date, so their early iPhone 5 production is only a sign they’re cautious and get big stocks ahead of big demand.
