Lumiappaday #257: National Flags Quiz demoed on the Nokia Lumia 900

Posted: 29 Jul 2012 01:45 PM PDT

This app has been around for a while, and with the Olympics going on, it might be quite timely to see how much of these world flags you can name.

The app has a practice mode and a timed mode. You choose from the whole world or a particular continent. A flag is presented at random and you are given 4 options. Touch the correct one. If you’re right, you get a ding and the name lights up green. If you’re wrong, your choice is in red and you’re provided with the right answer in green. You’ll need to click next to proceed. In the timed mode, there is no need to press next as you will just cycle through the next options, right or wrong.

The Olympics officials might find something like this useful, and can avoid mix ups like the North/South Korean flag that led specsavers to come out with this ad:

topolino70′s Flowers of Arboretum and more Nokia 808 PureView user submissions

Posted: 29 Jul 2012 10:11 AM PDT

It’s a topolino70 weekend. Let’s check out another beautiful piece shot on the Nokia 808 PureView and vibrant colour bursting flowers.

Also, from our last post, we asked for you to highlight some other PureView users. Links after the video:

I went to Tampere Arboretum (Finland), hoping to catch some nice shots of butterflies. Unfortunately I did not see any yet. Maybe the autumn butterflies have not hached yet. Nevertheless, being there I took several clips of nice flowers. Here’s the result.

Videos again shot using only Nokia 808 + Velbon c-600 tripod. If you are interested how I attached the phone to the tripod, please watch a video from my channel called “A way to attach N8 to a tripod…..”.

From Jovrien.

Simple yet pretty.

Nokia N9/Lumia resemblances to iPhone in 2006?

Posted: 29 Jul 2012 01:34 AM PDT

For some reason, prototype iPhone pics supposedly from 2006 have been published. You can see a gallery from TheVerge below.

http://www.theverge.com/2012/7/26/3189305/2006-iphone-prototype-images#3597477

ICEman who tipped this in noted that it resembles the N9 (Or Lumia 800), albeit without the slightly tapering edges. There’s definitely some resemblance.

Who knows what Nokia’s own unpublished protos look like? I know they showcased something that looks like the iPhone 4 way back in 2006 too.

One of the immediate comparisons, especially from ElMu, was that the N9/800 looked like an iPod.

Quite different from the sides and back.

Cheers ICEman for the tip!

Salo Factory in Finland closing in September

YLE reports that the Salo factory in Finland was shut down on Friday and will close permanently in Autumn (September).

The last phone built there was made on Wednesday.

This is part of Nokia’s cost cutting measures, which means phones can be built more quickly and efficiently hopefully meaning Nokia can adapt better to the constantly changing markets.

Cheers jiipee for the tip!
