RIM CEO Thorsten Heins Discusses BB10 Delay, Promises New Full Touch Device for January Posted: 10 Jul 2012 12:01 PM PDT RIM CEO Thorsten Heins is certainly more optimistic than everyone in the world right, since most analysts and experts see RIM spelled rather as RIP these days. The lack of a new handset for about year now, lack of a new OS and delay of BB 10 OS sound like impending doom. However, Heins has plans for the future! The CEO did a Q & A with the Globe & Mail readers and also sat down CIO’s Al Sacco to discuss what’s going on with the Canadian company. He mentioned that we’ll only have to wait a couple more months for BB10. The reason for the delay is apparently not the addition of extra stuff to the OS, but rather getting the software groups to integrate their efforts better. Thus, the core of the OS is ready, but it must be put through the finishing touches and integrated into the community/ecosystem. Thorsten commits to the public out there and promises to deliver a viable product, the BlackBerry 10 OS. He calls the platform a high quality product and has high hopes for the first full touch BlackBerry with this OS on board. A media unveiling is promised for that month, so keep your fingers crossed! Huawei Ascend D1 Coming to China Today, Russia in August Posted: 10 Jul 2012 03:00 AM PDT Huawei had an impressive start of the year, unveiling a new generation of handsets at MWC 2012, but where are those models now?! They’ve mysteriously disappeared from the map, only to resurface with delays now. One of them is that Ascend D quad, that’s yet to be launched and the Ascend D1, that hits China today and Russia in August. This is not a quad core phone like the bigger Quad brother, but it’s still describe as a “speedy all rounder” by its maker. It packs a 1.5 GHz dual core TI processor, Android 4.0 ICS stock and a 4.5 inch 720p IPS screen, as well as 1GB of RAM. The back of the handset looks very much like the one of the Samsung Galaxy S II and the lower part also reminds me a bit of the Galaxy Nexus. Other features include an 8 megapixel camera at the back and a 1.3MP shooter upfront. 1080p video capture and Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound are also available, as well as 8GB of storage and a 1670 mAh Li-Ion battery, A GPS, accelerometer, gyro, proximity and compass. Let’s hope that the price for this dual core smartphone will be reasonable. Related posts:

Intel Partners With Even More Indian Companies in Order to Make Smartphones Posted: 10 Jul 2012 12:08 AM PDT IbnLive claims that Intel has decided to partner with more Indian companies in order to make some new smartphones. We already knew that the company partnered with a local company and created the Intel-based Lava XOLO X900, the phone seen below and available now in India. The new manufacturer in the Intel boat is Karbonn Mobile, that appears to have been working with Intel in covert ops for a while now. Karbonn’s officials say that the first Intel Android smartphone will be released by the end of this year. After promising to make a big impact when Windows 8 will be released, Intel also wants to matter in the world of Android smartphones and it already has Motorola and Lenovo on its side, plus some smaller companies, such as those Indian ones. It all started with the Atom Z2460 Medfield CPU, a viable solution for handsets. The XOLO X900 debuted in India back in April and it came with a 1.6 GHz Medfield processor and NFC. Lenovo K800 is another Intel-based handset, available in China in May and we also have the Orange San Diego, yet another model of this kind, this time for UK customers. Still waiting for a US release… Related posts: |
