ZTE Announces First Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Smartphone: ZTE N88OE

Posted: 24 Jul 2012 01:05 AM PDT

Chinese company ZTE just announced the world’s first Android 4.1 Jelly Bean smartphone, that bears the name or better said codename of ZTE N88OE. The device is set to debut in ZTE’s home country and it will the first in the world to come with Android 4.1 preinstalled.

Strangely enough, the specs are quite mediocre on this product. They include a 1 GHz Qualcomm CPU and a 4 inch 480 x 800 pixel display. The phone is also pretty thick, at 10.4mm, considering there are Chinese phones that are 6mm thick out there. Other specs include 4GB of storage, a microSD card slot, a 3.2 megapixel camera at the back, plus the usual Bluetooth and WiFi. Under the hood we’ve also got a 1650 mAh battery.

It appears that ZTE has a great relationship with Google and great R&D capabilities, so this explains the existence of the handset. This is confirmed by Kan Yulun, VP and CTO of the handset division at ZTE, who also said that the experience of customizing devices for partners around the world is used to bring new technologies to the market fast. It’s yet unclear if this model will debut outside of China or not.
